I agree the Plextor is my baby, it rips a disk really fast because of its speed read and the burns even at 16x, not that I do it but you got to test, scan at excellent. Plex has now come out with their economy drive the 740a which is a rebadged BenQ 1640, so you know BenQ is good if Plextor is using it. However, the 716a is Plextor and comes with all the Plex bells and whistles which the 740a does not.

I agree entirely. the Plex outshines the BenQ in almost everyway , particularly its read speed and accuracy.. I dont own a BenQ but have had the chance to try it out.. plus you have to look at the long term reliability of these drives if you are a heavy backer upper like i am :)

Quick update for alk:

Was able to pull the main movie out with Re-author in Shrink, but not able to do anything with the full movie features and all.

Ripped Stealth without so much as a hiccup (100% - no compression) using AnyDVD/CloneDVD2 combo...ripped WOTW w/ AnyDVD/DVDDecrypter without a hiccup..(pulled out just the movie at 7.2Gb, reached 73% compression)..looks good so far, now on to tackle Fantastic Four.

This is becoming a royal pain in the backside. Having multiple programs for multiple movies!! I know, I know, ...but there's a big difference in ego when choosin to use a free program that works, and paying $60 for one that does the same thing.

morph did you try the updated AnyDVD with DVD Decrypter alone? you can still pull out the movie files alone with DVD Shrink then burn with decrypter..the longer I rip movies the more I realize that moving to DL format is a wise , cost effective solution particularly when considering the long term degradation of most other types of R/RW media...which I have heard , not confirmed, is less of an issue with DL media. and since such burners and media are rapidly becoming cost effective.. slowly becoming a no brainer.. imho

The files were giving Shrink, and VOB Blanker fatal errors. It was not possible to do anything more with the movie. It could have been bad media to begin with, but once you open a movie, you don't get to take it back. It froze, locked up, and errored out on the PC, not the TV...so no explaining that to the stores!

It's no big deal, I've learned more about today's dodads...so it's all good.

and yes....like most of us, I always use the latest versions available.

VobBlanker question.

How do you use it for this problem? Do you select just one file or do all of the files. The discribtion of the program says that it removes titles. does this mean that the menu will be destoyed or that you can not longer skip to the next title/chapter?

Have you tested this drive on another system? similarly have you tried a new/different drive in your system?

I'm just geussing, but I'd say reformat and reinstall your os/drivers/updates/software etc...I couldn't imagine how a movie could pooch your drive.

I can copy non-protected dvd's so I dont think its the drive. I had no problem burning any dvd before with dvdshrink and Nero or sometimes dvddecrypt. But since getting the cyclic redundancy check error when copying madagascar with dvdshrink I get the same message for any copy protected dvd. Even ones that I have copied before.

@puffy

I had problems with my Sony burner after messing with Madagascar. I ended up having to flash the drive with the latest firmware to recover.

@captnkaye

Check to see if you have the latest firmware on your drive. If you are using Nero it will tell you which version of firmware you have. Then you can go to www.rpc1.org to check if you have the latest. I think the log is kept in the same folder your Nero resides in.

PuFFy , the problem with Madagascar is NOT your drive its the movie which has Ripguard DVD Shrink cant handle it alone you will need to run AnyDVD in the background WITH DVD Shrink to do the movie or use clonedvd2 with AnyDVD (which i use) best combo going

I updated my drives firmware but the problem of 'dvd shrink read errors' on all copy protected discs is still there.

Incidently tried it on another pc and that has developed the same problem.

I have copied madagascar using fabdvd, but am gutted my dvdshrink is out of action.

Has anyone else had this problem?

Try ripping it to your hard drive with dvdshrink 3.1 and get AnyDVD and you shouldnt have any problems I messed around with it for a few hours on one machine and Ithought I would try it on my other machine that didnt have all the newer software on it and it ripped right to my harddrive with out a glitch with 3.1 dvdsrink and a older version of AnyDVD 3.2.11 so I put shrink 3.1 on my other computer and havent had any problems

it might be worth a shot.........

thanks

Are there any shills for AnyDVD here? Jebus Chistmas, the whole thread is filled with newbie posts pumping this thing... gee, I wonder if you guys got it for free, and are paying them back by flooding forums with your spamming... no, that couldn't be it, could it?

Sorry I didn't get it for free but it is an excellent program, and did not mind putting out the bucks for it.

@RACERXdvd

I agree with you, and it does not matter whether you are a newbie, or not, everybody can post their preferences. We all are here to learn. I use many differenct programs and methods to backup, from free to pay, and IMHO AnyDVD is one of the best. And no I am not a shill or a spammer, I just like the program.

IMO AnyDVD is bunk. I know it seems lately everyone wants to jizz all over AnyDVD, but I've never had success with it. I've tried it with difficult movies when I've read a thread saying it works...but it never has. I don't have it installed and don't plan to reinstall it any time soon.

I can't believe Madagascar is still around here. It was Macrovision's RipGuard aka b!tch, but it's super easy as smokin'.

Don't run DVD43 in the background. Here's what you need to do. I GUARANTEE YOU that you'll be able to have a successfully working full disc within 45 minutes.

(1) just have either DVD Decrypter to rip via Mode, File F into your hard drive, and wait until it's done, then closed DVD Decrypter.

(2) or have DVDFAB Decrypter rip into your hard drive, once DVDFAB Decrypter is done, closed DVDFAB Decrypter.

3) open up VobBlanker, browse to your "input = source" (browse to your VIDEO_TS foler that was ripped by either DVDFAB Decrypter or DVD Decrypter earlier, then set your "output = destination" <-- your new folder that you're going to encode with DVD Shrink or Nero Recode 2.

4) click/highlight VTS_8_VOB and highlight PGC or TTN entry 2 - 5 then Blank them and click on PROCESS.

That's it... sit and wait until it's done. Now you can encode/compress it with DVD Shrink or Nero Recode 2 and burn them at your desire burning engine.

Enjoyed it and happy burning..!!

I paid for my AnyDVD as well and it is a great program. It will help resolve 99.9% of backup encryption issues from the get go.

Well worth the expense (which is minimal).

Those of you who don't like it. Don't buy it.
