I am not sure exactly where the corruption lies, but I think you are well past it in your rip attempts being well into VTS_08_1.VOB before you get your first read error.

I am thinking your problem is with a bad, dirty, or scratched Disc. Make sure your disc is clean and free of smudges and dirt.

The error on VTS_08_2.VOB is at about the edge of the DVD and lies on a layer break. There is no corruption in VTS_08_2.VOB.

It also looks like you are using AnyDVD with DVD Decrypter. This is not bad, but I do not think you need to have the "Check for Structure Protection" option enabled. This can be changed in the General tab in Decrypter's settings.

Also, in the I/O tab, you can change the interface to "ElbyCDIO..."

You can also try one of these PSL files for Madagascar:

---------------------------------------------

PSL2
0:0x1600C763,3922527,Madagascar - Zone 1

1:1413652,1413663
1:1413664,1416987

6:8,1,1,2,1
6:8,1,1,3,1
6:8,1,1,4,0

6:8,1,2,2,1
6:8,1,2,3,1
6:8,1,2,4,0

6:8,5,2,2,1
6:8,5,2,3,1
6:8,5,2,4,0

-------------------------------------------------

PSL2
0:0x1600C763,3922527,Madagascar - Zone 1

1:1413664,1416987

6:8,1,2,2,1
6:8,1,2,3,1
6:8,1,2,4,0

------------------------------------------

To use the PSL files, open notepad. Copy and paste one of the PSL text (inbetween the "---"). Then save as "Madagascar.PSL".

Repeat for the second one, but save it as "Madagascar1.PSL".

Then to use it, launch Decrypter and click on File and select "protected sectors list=>import protected sector list". Decrypter will give you a message telling you whether it is the correct PSL or not.

I am not sure if either will work, because I do not have the movie and I do not remember if they are for wide or full screen....

If you ask why two PSL files, the shorter one was made by PGCEdit and the longer one was not. The longer includes info about PGC 5 of VTS_08. Use one or the other, not both.

Also Disable AnyDVD before trying to rip with a PSL file.

That's good info, thanks...I'll try it tomorrow. I do fear thet you may have hit the nail on the head with the scratched disc idea. There appears to be a mark around the outside of the disc about 1/8" in almost like it was spinning and something got under it.

I hate to be beat by things like this but one can only spend so much time on something right?

Thanks

ok did you try JUST CloneDVD 2 and AnyDVD ONLY? if not try thoses two programs together doing the movie ONLY ,and follow this guide

http://bbmayo.home.comcast.net/

or if you use DVD Decrypter with AnyDVD set DVD Decrypter this way

To use DVD Decrypter in conjunction with AnyDVD as stated per Olli ->OF SLYSOFT AND CloneDVD

Proceed to the DVD Decrypter Opening Page - Tools - Settings

I/O Tab - Click on "Elby CDIO-Elaborate Bytes"

General Tab - un-check "Check For Structure Protection"

if these methods dont work you may have a bad/scratched dvd, return it for another one a go again .[BOLD]IT WILL WORK

@fulsfrtun,

The reason I thought that your disc was damaged is because the first sectors it was stuck on are about half way into VTS_08_1.VOB.

I just noticed that the PSL files show the sector addresses that are corrupted:

1:1413652,1413663 (1413652 thru 1413663)
1:1413664,1416987 (1413664 thru 1416987)

This means that sectors 1413652 through 1416987 are corrupt. In your case, DVDD got stuck at sector 1711840 in VTS_08_1.VOB and sector 2009408 of VTS_08_2.VOB. Both are outside of the corrupted areas of the DVD.

Since you already have most of the movie ripped, you can try once more to rip the disc, but clean it first. I use Cleaner wax to clean discs which also fills in some light scratches and may help your reader get through deeper scratches. The best ones I have found are to be the aerosol type spray waxes. The regular spray waxes work too, but are harder to buff clean. BTW, I mean car waxes.

If this does not work, then try to re-rip the movie as aabbccdd suggested. You can even just try dragging and dropping the two VOB files that were skipped to you directory. If this fails again, then you should exchange the DVD for a new one.

The latest AnyDVD update works better with decrypter, in the list of updates it mentions getting rid of the "pack header" problem. Have you got the latest version of AnyDVD?

is the latest version of AnyDVD better to be used with DVD Decrypter for such movies as Madagascar and then use whatever shrinking program of your heart's desire?

So I think the disc being scratched is the problem. I stuck the original in my dvd player to watch it and it got so far in the movie and the video broke up and stopped. I'll try to exchange it tomorrow and try again.

To all those who believe they've tried everything and well....aren't stupid...

Several people including myself have had issues with the Madagascar DVD pressing itself. Several people have had issues with the video freezing at certain parts in the movie (for me it was the subway sceen when the swat comes). The bad disc that I dealt with had two perferrated bumps towards the outter edge of the disc, which is where VTS 08_02.VOB would be on the pressing. For those of you who feel like they've "tried everything," try another disc. Especially if you've gone through the 11 pages in this forum and have tried what everyone suggested.

I think a MOD should just close this thread for good. Isn't it obvious and ironic that some people are having so much problems, yet on the other hand, half of the people are ripping and backing up flawlessly (including myself, I've never had any issues ripping and backing up any movies whatsoever).

Either you have to have the latest from AnyDVD or use alternative like DVDFAB Decrypter or DVD Decrypter, then simply run it through VobBlanker and the rest is a piece of cake. If you've tried AnyDVD, DVD43 and VobBlanker and your problem still exist, then it it likely that you have a badly pressed original, the answer is EXCHANGE it for a new one and you'll be fine period.

Just my 2 cents...

QUESTION???
Does VOBBlanker still works as charming as you say if I use DVDFab instead of DVDDecrypter. I have DVDDecrypter but since DVD Shrink did not work I used the other. Also, whats the deal with the first file of the actual movie; when I opened it on the computer, as computer files, IT HAD NO SOUND!? Thanks for helping :)

the movie has "Ripguard" so you can go though the long task of using DVD Decrypter,DVD Shrink or fab and VOB blanker ,you will need PSL files also.

or you can use CloneDVD 2 with AnyDVD and be done with the movie in about 20 mins. that up to you. heres a guide to use the program

I too have had problems with file 8_2 and nothing worked (I read this entire thread for ideas). I could never get that file ripped. I exchanged the disk and on a brand new, right out of the package disk, it still had problems with that file. I did manage to copy it and that is when I realized something. The brand new original was in fact damaged or something, as it did not play right in one spot (I assume somewhere in 8_2). I hadn't noticed as in three dvd players, it skipped past the problem so fast that it just appeared like a normal change in scene.

What made my realize the problem is that in the copy, there is about 2.5 minutes missing. After trying everyting I could think of and anything I got from this thread, I used vob blanker directlly on the original disk as the source. I selected all files on the disk and had it process them all to a folder on my hard drive. I then tried recode on the folder which failed, and then tried clone dvd on the main movie (removed menus and everything) and it worked, and the copy plays fine. I don't think that it is skipping a bad part on the copy, but rather think that vob blanker removed the bad area (presumably a bad spot from a bad pressing, not copy guard based on what everyones coments).
The bad area on my disk starts about 30 minutes into the main movie, where the crates with the animals fall off the ship). the original has playback problems and skips parts in the same spot that they are missing on the copy.

I just though this might be helpfull to some of you. I think I might try to exchange the disk again.

I forgot to mention, I had anydvd running when I used vob blanker to process the entire disk off the original as well as when I used clone dvd to burn it.
