never got dvd rips to work the first 5-6 times and i gave up...there's no point
and not all are able to get down to the 700mb limit...
sorry for confusion but what i meant was
if a dvd rip doesnt work, its not the fliptop or swap magic its the rip

yeah i agree dills, most rips aren't worth doing or getting anyway. and yeah the flip top wouldn't care either way.

I'm still waiting on my replacement dvd swapmagic disc. Quick question, is the cd swapmagic disc for cd based backups only or does it also cover dvdrips to a single cd? (or do i use the dvd swapmagic disc for those)

you'd use the cd disc for cdr's (even rips)and the dvd disc for dvd-r's

I don't get how everyone burns at 1X.....always burned using 2X or 4X with Primo or RecordNow and never got a coaster....the only coaster I get is with the 1X cheapo disc from ebay which I will never buy again....maybe it depends on the burner I guess....my DVR-105 does'nt handle it well....lol :(
It has to be something easier than this???!!! :(

I agree that not every game needs to be burned slow, i've had cd images that i burned at 48x and they work great. but there are those that wont work for me if i burn them over 4x. for me, it's just that i'd rather not be making coasters trying to find out what burns fast and what dont. especially with the price of dvd media, yeah sure i could burn at 4x but why bother if it's going to cost me a disc finding out that it wont work. it's just a good rule of thumb to burn slow.

i had read that you had to save the image first then reopen nero and burn....
i did a 1:1 copy and took a chance
burned at 2.4...lowest it lets me and boots fine.
i also read that like the 3 mission freezes on bad copies...might be with magic 3 mod chip from what i read...
will find out soon seems like a cool game

Hey guys im new to this flip top cover thing and heard that you need to have a good quality backup in order to play it. I would like to know what software I should use and whats the average speed should be set to make it work with the swap disk. Thanks guys.

From an earlier post from Dills2214
"I have only tried one disk but it worked like a charm. No trouble at all.
I backed up my copy of GTA vice city.
I have the new HP 300i burner.
I use fugifilm dvd+r's - the rw's appear to not work.
i used DVD Decrypter to rip the dvd to an ISO file.
Then used the same program to burn the disc and an instant backup in 30 minutes.
10min to rip about 20 to burn."
I don't know if this helps, I don't back up my own games, i have someone do them for me. >< gomen.

WHY IS IT ABOUT A FLIPTOP TOP THAT MAKES IT ABLE FOR YOU TO PLAY BACKUPS? ALL DOES IS MAKE THE PS2 OPEN FROM THE TOP. I UNDERSTAND THAT IT WORKS WITH SWAP MAGIC CD BUT WHY CANT WE USE SWAP MAGIC WITH REGULAR EJECT FROM PS2. I JUST DONT UNDERSTAND HOW MAKING THE PS2 OPEN FROM THE TOP BYPASSES NOT NEEDING A CHIP. DONT GET ME WRONG I KNOW FLIPTOPS WORK. JUST DONT KNOW HOW.

if you were to eject the tray after putting in swap magic then the PS2 would reboot and start over looking for boot info in tray. The reason flip tops work is that you read the boot info from the swap magic disc then without resetting you put in backup, therefore it doesnt look for boot sector from game.

This has got to be the longest thread I've been on!
As an aside, some of you really need to take some time with your posts. There's no need to hurry...
all lowercase post with absolutely no punctuations or anything and goes on forever without stopping is really annoying blah blah
AND THE ALL CAPS FOLKS ARE REALLY ANNOYING AS WELL AND LOOKS LIKE THEY'RE SHOUTING
Come on people! We want to have a good discussion and help people with their problems, but I have to be able to read the posts easily! I understand if English isn't your first language (it wasn't mine), but it doesn't excuse not using punctuations or writing in all caps.

I'm with Dills, we have created a nice little flip top world here. I've become pretty good at the back up thing, so be sure and drop a line here when problems arise. I'm sure one of us will be able to crack it (unless Splinter Cell is a new trend, given backing it up is not the problem.) Let's keep it rolling.

hey dills, have you notice the different sized white magnet hubs? i got my buddy a flip top for V1-3 and his magnet is weird sized, it doesn't fit quite right and will pop off now and then. I was wondering if you'd seen different ones too, so far i've seen 3. the weird one, another one from a V2, and mine from my V7.

Well I just got my flip top in the mail. I ordered from BSG and well, It took me about 10 minutes to install. Cleaned my laser and stuff while i was at it. But i am sad to report, FFX2 DOES NOT work with it. Every other back up works flawlessly but this one. Sucks for me ><

I was just wondering. With the fliptop can I burn the games to a 74Min 650MB CDR? Or does it have to be smaller? I'm new at this. Thanx.
