Damn Dills, I thought I had it timed perfect for post 800. Nice job anyway!!!

I'll wait to see if ZONELOADER is the real deal. Latest word is it should be out by Christmas. The designer's posted the following on another site:

"I am really sorry for all these delays, it has been much more difficult than we expected, and it could even take another month or so to sort out. We thought about selling it (the ZoneLoader technology) but to be honest, there's probably many years left in swap solutions, and no point to make Success (Swap Magic guys) even more rich than they already are. Maybe its best to close the forum for ZoneLoader as it is probably just making things worse now. I am very sorry for this, and I guess we just underestimated ourselves.

Anyway sorry again, and hopefully we can get it done for Christmas"

we'll see. Or maybe Success will build a new version of the SW discs.

ok, burned another 4 coasters, tekken4 froze at 99% grand turismo3 froze first at 80% and then at 99%, so i rebooted and burned nba2k3 and it worked, then i tried atv offroad and it froze at 99%. i dropped it in the burner before bed and when i woke up it was stuck. i'm defraging now but this brings me to the question of free drivespace/ram. i have about 11gigs free on a 80g drive, i got 512megs of ram and a P4 2ghz with a hp300e and xp home. i'm not runnin other programs while i burn. im using dvd decrypter and the fuji+r's. I've had quality burns so far, but yesterday brought down my batting avg. so is there a minimum ammount of resources needed to prevent these freezes, has anyone else had games freeze at 99%?

Hey, I have read all 30 something pages in this thread so i can know what the hell i am talking about. Just got my flip top and installed and is working fine. A couple of questions for someone.

1) Original Playstation 2 games are what format +R, -R, or vary (some are +R and some are -R)

2) I found this somewhere and want to know if it is true.

Playstation 2 V1 - V3 only support dvd-r
Playstation 2 V4 - 50/50 some support dvd+r and some support dvd -r
Playstation 2 V5 - V8 support both dvd-r and dvd+r.

Thanks for the help. Great board

Logan...

first thing I would do in your situation is to go to lavasoft.com and download adaware. Check for spyware running in the background that may be causing the freezing.
Next go to your HP software and make sure you have the latest drivers and BE SURE to upgrade your firmware to latest. I know there were updates for my 300i (internal).

If you still have problems...ill do more thinking :)

That last thing can't be correct about v1-v3 supporting only dvd-r.... i use dvd+r's and they work just fine with my ps2... i think it's v3 maybe v2. I got it by Christmas the year it came out. 10 little screws on the bottom. As seen as

http://home.rochester.rr.com/ps2cover/Version.jpg

so I guess I proved the first theory wrong.

i'm not exactly sure how to check the cpu temp, but i'm not overclockin it or anything like that, and i'm not runnin crazy processor intensive programs. while i dont know much about the electrical engineering threshold of microprocessors, im thinkin you've gotta really make some hardcore moves to melt a chip. still, some sort of hardware issue is a possibility.

yup, already had adaware and i'm spyware free. i do have dietK but havent used it for a while. after the first two failed burns i cut the internet off and everything else and i went in clean to make sure nothing was runnin in the background. im updated on drivers, but i do have an external. it's a little slower but i bring it to work and friend's places and stuff. however, i havent moved it in a week, so maybe its just sukks cause its external. its funny cause nba2k3 worked in the middle of all the chaos when the others didnt. all my iso's said they copied to the hard drive successfully so im thinkin the originals are ok.

anyway, so what i did last night was use the burnin software that came with the burner to burn. the software is "record now" but i dont think its "record now max" or whatever. i use it for music (for backup purposes, not intellectual property theft) and data with no problems at all so i figured i'd throw an iso at it. i tried vice city again and it worked flawlessly. dont get me wrong, i LOVE DVD Decrypter. when that little wav plays when the copy is successfull its like friggin christmas mornin. however, i think the way for me to go now is to rip with decrypter and burn with record now.

tryin LOTR two towers today, its a chill game.

Can anyone tell me what format the original playstation 2 games are in. Are they DVD+R, DVD-R, or are they both (some +R and some -R). Thanks for the help.

danny--

the original ps2 games are in cd or dvd format (xenosaga might be DVD-9 but that is just an assumption i really dont know). the "R" just means recordable, so i'm kinda thinking that NONE of the ps2 games are recordable. as in you cant write TO the ps2 disk. so to answer the question, they are not DVD-R or DVD+R. basically they are just regular dvd's or cd's. actually im thinkin that they are "special playstation style" formatted so that the ps2 can read'm and boot from them. basically, they are more of a "DVD-PS2" format rather than DVD-R or DVD+r. yeah, that looks like it made sense.

yeh... they are just DVD's...

the (R) (RW) mean recordable or rewritable.

so ps2 games are neither as you cant write to them. They are regular dvd's.

Ok Dills thanks for the reply. One other question if you don't mind. I am about to buy a DVD Burner. What is the most popular format -R or +R. I not only want to use my DVD burner for backing up my playstation 2 games but i also want to back up my movie dvd's. And i want them to be able to play on dvd players that are being sold. So i guess i am asking as far as dvd players, what is the most popular format +R or -R. I might just buy a combo +R/-R to cover all bases but hate to shell out the extra $'s if not need. Thanks, Again.

Can you use the Neo Key/SBOX with the flip top to play everything?

I currently have the Neo Key installed, it will not play the dvd backup's, so I wanted to use the flip top to play those and the Neo for all other games.

thanks

Getting the fliptop cover won't get the sbox mod to work but if you get the fliptop cover then you will be able to play backups that way.

Ok i just tried the v7 cdloader also and it didn't work for the games that i needed it for. But remember it's just a beta so at least they are working on it. All well i guess it was 2 good to be true.

Can anyone confirm whether or whether not this is true?
Quote:
The flip top or the no solder modchip changes the disc while the ps2 thinks the disk is the same so when a new disk is inserted the laser does a process called 'focus search' where it moves the laser assembly up and down until the best (minimum spot size) is found. This is then used for the whole disk, but, if the rails are not truly parallel with the disk, focus will deteriorate as the laser moves away from the initial position (the inner most tracks). That is, the laser will be closer or further away from the disk at the outermost track positions and either is bad news and could result in a broken laser.
That would fucking suck... Thx very much :)

it may be true, but i have a hard time buying it. since the swap magic provides the boot sectors that you cant copy, the laser should be in the correct position when the game disc is inserted, so vertical position shouldn't be a problem. track positioning should be safeguarded by the board or railstops since all games are on the same size discs. again, this might in fact be a true statement, but i have a hard time believing that a fliptop or swap amgic could damage the laser, my kid plays the hell out of his fliptoped machine and nothing has ever happened to it. but my opinion is no, it wont hurt anything, but i could be wrong.

yeh.. i've been using a flip top now for... well a long time. I know it hasnt been a year but i play all the time and i have never had any problems. I've always been glad I came here....found out about the flip top and never worry about soldering.

I wouldnt worry about it. Hasnt happened to anyone on to here.

As for the +/- question above....

i have + only. Works for my ps2. Works for movies. THe movies also even play on my ps2.
My suggestion is go to google. Search for a +/- compatability list of dvd players. If your dvd player only reads -r....then i would go with that. My pioneer reads both so I just went with the + burner and havent regretted it since.

Is it possible to burn a dvd swap disk for ps2?

no, if it were possible to burn it, you wouldn't need it in the first place (assuming you mean the swap magic discs)

well... i finally got dvd-r games to work on my fliptop, but they have HUGE loading gaps (even where ther is no load on the original), and crash regularly. i have tried datawrite reds, and traxdatas at 1X with recordnow max.
is it cos a v3 ps2 is too old for dvd-r?

Actually, if I'm not mistaken, the older ps2's read -r's just fine, it's the +r's that they have a problem with. Try using a higher quality media like ritek. I use Ritek g04's and haven't had a single problem.
