1) Does it read original games?
2) Does the SMD CD or DVD booted or screen prompt "Load program"

Hi Guys, I'm a bit behind the times... Found this site when I bought my new PC in December and loving it... So much so that I've purchased a 'Flip Top' and Swap Magic 3.3... Install went like a treat (except the ribbon on the reset was a bit tricky to tuck in!) I tried my fist back up yesterday. Metal Gear Solid 3. Used DVD Decrypter to create an ISO image and burnt to a Sony brand -r DVD at 1X speed, tried to use in my V4 Ps2 with Swap magic.. All looked OK, swapped out fine and loads up, but when I start a new game or select any option from the start menu it just comes back to the game menu again. Any Ideas on the best media to use or any help would be cool as I'm new to this and looking forward to backing up some games succesfully!

Cheers,
Buster

I successfully backed-up my MGS Solid 3 without a problem using the same method. Did you Disable any virus protection and close any other applications? Also, I've heard of other people having problems backing up their MGS Solid 3's and had to rebuild to make it work. If you want to give this a try heres the thread w/the instructions ---> http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/127255 I had to use this method for NBA Street Vol. 3 and now it works great.

Thanks Joeycool. My virus was off and nothing else was runnning in the background. I'll give that method a try and let you know how I get on.

Was the media I'm using OK, or have you any other suggestions?

Thanks,
Buster

Sony is a good name but i've never used the DVD-R's. It should be ok. Most people around here use Ritek G04's and I've never had a problem except for NBA Street which wasn't the media's fault.

Hey all ... really hoping you can help me here as I don't know where else to turn to.

I just tried installing the flip top cover on my slim line PS2. Everything seemed to go fine (though the metal pieces holding those small screws in fell out, but I put them back in).

The PS2 boots fine, but it never tries loading any DVD I put in there. I've made sure the cover is connected and everything. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Just thought i'd throw in what i've learned so far: dvd+r works best for dvd copies, clonecd is the easiest program to use for copying (even copies dvd to dvd) and so far have had no problems with the copies. I have found that some copied games won't boot on the first attempt but will boot on the second or third try, so have a little patience, you may not have a coaster.

to those of you who can't get anything to load since installing the flip-top all i can say is to check all the wires as you may have accidently pulled something loose or pinched a wire.

with a V4 PS2, your chances of it reading +R are "hit or miss". that was the version that seemed to draw the line of which version could play +R and which couldn't. it seemed like V5 and above had little trouble reading - or +R and V4 and down had a tough time on +R. you might find yourself trying a few differnet types of media before you find something that works for you.
good luck

I have a version 4 ps2 and have always used dvd+r without any problems (although I really haven't copied that many games). As for the HD Advance, I was under the impression that all that does is tell the system to boot from the hard drive instead of the disc, so I don't think it would work for copied game discs (unless they were put on the hard drive - but I don't know anything about that), so you probably need the Swap Magic discs.

well, let's clear this up then - there are actually two different version 4s: SCPH 30001 and SCPH 35001, the second one is the Gran Turismo 3 edition - the one I have. Perhaps that is exact line darthnip was talking about - check your ps2's number, if it's a 30001 use -r, if it's a 35001, 30001R, 39001 or higher use +r

still not quite correct. I had 2 30001 v4's and they both read +r discs. I think it depends on what laser is in your ps2.

Hi to all,
I've started to read some stuff regarding the flip top covers and I'm really interested in buying one for me. Unfortunately I can't find one flip top covers for my PS2 - version 3. Does anybody know why? It seems that all Flip top cover sellers are only selling for version 4-10 and the new slim PS2. Could somebody clear me up on this question?
If a flip top for PS2 v.3 is being sold, could somebody point out any trusted websites of where to buy them in Europe/U.S.?

Thanks to all in advance.
Regards.

You can get V1-V3 fliptop covers from here:

http://www.ps2fliptop.net/order.htm

make sure you read it to make sure it says "v1-v3" and not "v4-v8". Also check if you need SM discs.
