Hi good people: AFTER "DVD Decrypter" has finished and the movies is ON the hard drive - what is the step by step procedure for getting the movies INTO "DVD Shrink" and finish it out? This would be a major, major plus for me if I can get this to work.... Thanking you in advance ronnies

If you ripped in DVD Decrypter in file mode, open DVD Shrink and click on the big button that says Open Files, look for the Video_ts folder that decrypter created and go to town.

Read the guides in my sig

Happy burning!

Hello Locoeng and temj: Guys I am snakebitten! "Locoeng" I followed your suggested format for using "DVD Decrypter" and then To "DVD Shrink" and the exact same thing occured?? I got to the very end of the "Encode" process and I got the "Encountered error_______" blurb again? Man, I thought I had it fixed - not so. I still have the encrypted files on my hard drive, maybe I'll try some other way - don't know what yet. The movies I am having the problem with is " indecent proposal". I have this movies from two separate sources both times with the exact same result as noted before???? I think I am just not to use the "DVD Decrypter". I usually get "DVD Shrink" to work but certainly not on all movies. At a loss for words...
Thanks again guys for your help, you do try... ronnies

Normally that's the error message you get when Shrink runs into ARccOS protection.

Indecent Proposal (released in 1993) does not have any special encryption and Shrink should be able to rip it without Decrypter. What happens when you do that?

Have you tried removing and reinstalling Shrink?

Hello Temj: sorry that I was so long in replying. The error message is " DVD Shrink encountered an error and cannot continue. Progamming error - Exception occured". I have just about given up on this - I don't think it's going to work. Any suggestions are always welcome - thanks again for your efforts. ronnies

I don't know how I managed to get my first post in BEFORE the one I was trying to answer but it did...How would I know what the actual error message was?
Weird!

Hello Fasfrank: No I haven't tried removing and reinstalling "DVD Shrink". What could that do? I just tried to backup "Indecent Proposal" again. I still have the same results at the same place - Right when the count hits "0" on the encode, I get the "Error" blurb. Have no idea what is causing this???? Must be something in my computer that just doesn't agree with that movie???? Thanks for your time and effort. ronnies

Removing and reinstalling corrects any damage to the installation by reinstalling everything where it is supposed to go. This works sometimes. I just did it on a friends computer.

You need to try a different movie so we can figure out if this is simply something wrong with the source. Even though you tried a couple of different sources.
I had a similar problem with "Sahara", although I eventually got it copied. We had identical mastering problems with different original DVDs.

I'm not sure what you mean when you say it reaches "0". Shrink starts out at 0% complete and finishes at 100%.

If it is the very end of the movie, then you may want to trim a bit off the end. The very end should be just the credits rolling by. Can you live without them?

Try this:
Open Shrink and open your movie as usual.

Select Re-author and drag the main movie title in the compilation window on the left. Remove un-needed Audio and Sub-picture streams as you normally would.

The next thing is to open the Set Start/End frames feature.

This is opened by clicking the opposing dark blue arrows located just to the right of where it says "DVD Compilation".

This opens the Set Start/End frames window.

Use the buttons and slider on the lower half of the screen to set the last frame of the movie. You can use the slider for coarse adjustments, use the buttons for fine adjustments.

Once you get the end of the movie trimmed off a bit, select OK.
This will set the changes you made and the Set Start/End Frames will continue.

What we are trying to do here is remove the area that Shrink is having problems with. This is assuming that the problem does occur at the very end of the movie and that it is a problem with the files or disc structure in that area.

Something else to try at any rate.

I have a animated guide for using the start/end feature. It is for making a clip but similar to what I wrote above. Once it loads, use the Back/Next buttons at the bottom to move through the sections:

Hello Fasfrank: That was a fantastic tutorial , did ou do all that? Great job, I will try to copy it, don't know it it will work with all the moving parts that is there. The "0" I was refering to was the TIME left to go ie: "0" seconds before completion. I have another movie that won't let me finish he backup either.Sometimes I get on a roll and movies that I try to backup all work. It's usually the same ones' that are persistant and just won't work. I use "DVD Shrink" only on backing up my movies. The other movie gave me the "Error" blurb at about 75% completion. So no definite place for all movies, just "Indecent Proposal". Has anyone backed up this movie without problems? I will play with you great help idea's and see what happens BUT "DVD Decrypter" did decrypt both movies mentioned above and I followed both movies up with "DVD Shrink" and neither worked. I saw during the process that each had "not decrypted" listed where a decryption was shown prior to when I used the "Decrypter" SO Apparently "Decryption" is not the problem.
Fasfrenk, much thanks for the time and thought that you havs give me, Take care - ronnies

With a movie that old, I would think it to be a single layer. So have you tried DVD Decrypter and DVD Decrypter only? You probably have no reason to shrink it. Have you tried it in ISO->read, the ISO->write modes?

Being an older title, would it be scratched or dirty? Try these settings in DVD Decrypter: tools->settings->under the CSS tab tick the Brute Force->I/O key exchange option. Under the I/O tab tick the ignore read errors option.

Try these settings and see if they make a difference.

I like running everything through shrink whether I need to or not. I reauthor everything as I don't like all the other crap that is on the DVD. I plan on doing some of the older movies very soon.

Hello Locoeng: you are a fantastically persistant individual. Temj always seems to be there also. Thank god for people that actually know something and are willing to share that knowledge - I thought you deserved this... I deleted my current version of "DVD Shrink" and replaced it with a new copy from "DVD Shrink.com". On my first try with that nemises movie "Indecent Proposal", I get the blue screen of death. SO - I had to restart and try again but got no completions on "Indecent Proposal" or another movie that wasn't doing well either. On my next try I did get a another movie to work perfectly using "DVD Shrink". That thread that you refered me to has good possibilities, something for me to work with. Curious "Locoeng", are you an Engineer??? Just wondering, I was a Structural engineering Designer prior to retiring, I think I left my brains there... Thanks again ronnies
