I'm green to all this, and I guess I should've done a lot more research on media. I have a DRX500UL... I bought a 50-pak of Matrix DVD-R's for $40. I'm using DVD X Copy ver 1.3, I guess. Anyhow, when using DVD+RW media it worked fine. But when I used the Matrix DVD-R's, it would get 70% through burning, then spit it out, saying there were errors. So, only 3/4 of the movie is on there. Wasted 3 already. Are these only going to be good for data?

Oops, last thing.

So, should I start using +R's to backup movies? That's probably the only type of burning I'm going to be doing.

If you guys can point me in the right direction, I would greatly appreciate it. Which websites have the best prices?

As I mentioned in another thread, I have had nothing but trouble with Imation DVD-R in my Sony DRU-500A. Fuji and Maxell DVD-R's have worked fine as well as GQ DVD+RW's.

Starang... first of all don't use DVDXCOPY... start using DVD Decryptor(best 1 to 1, even for protected stuff) or passari primo(ps2)... 2nd of all stop looking for cheap disc and wast your time... they are cheap for a reason... if u don't mind spending 15min-1hour of your life for every crap media that end up coaster... then suit urself... but I recommand you invest a couple more cents for every disc, and get "REAL DVD MEDIA" for important files I recommand Mitsui, Pioneer, Taiyo Yuiden, for all other stuff try Universal media... Found them $1.39 each at http://www.dvd-supply.com or $1.49 for free shipping at http://dvd-r.safewebshop.com .... stick with DVD-R(minus) media cuz they are cheaper.

To expand on what ultima mentioned, staRand, try going to http://www.doom9.org. They have tutorials on using DVD Decrypter with other programs that will give you better results than DVDXcopy (and they're free). You'll have more control over what you're doing, and you'll get a better understanding of what's actually on a DVD.

First off, Mods, please forgive me. I know this doesn't go here, but, these guys have already been helping me out.

So, I got DVD Decrypter - and have already successfully "ripped" or copied the DVD to my HD. Now how do I burn it to a DVD-R? I went into the ISO W (write) mode, and tried selecting the files I just ripped, but I get an error message. "Invalid or Unsupported ISO File."

How to a burn it to a DVD-R?

Mods, again, my apologies.
Thanks in advance.

Go to the url I posted above and look at the tutorials. Eveything you need to know is there. You can also look at the DVD Decrypter website here: http://www.dvddecrypter.com.

You may not be able to make a backup of a DVD directly using the ISO mode if the DVD is 2 layer since it will exceed the capacity of the DVD-R. You will also need something like Nero Burning Rom to successfully write to a DVD (a one month trial is free at their website).

Again, look at the tutorials.

Ps2 V4
Powerbook G4 DVD Burner
DVDCopy - OSeX

What media has been successful with ps2 v4? I bought a sampler pack and have had success with optodisc for 1 dvd-r movie. I know and trust ritek, verbatim, and many other more expensive discs, but have any v4 owners had success with Optodisc for movies and/or games. Thanks

I've read the thread and so far it looks like some people have success with Ritek +r and some people don't. I have a hp dvd200e usb 2.0 running windows xp home and I have been using Ritek +r's to back up all my movies using the latest DXC and have had all but success no bad copies no burns/coasters. I am playing them on a toshiba sd-3750. But I'm not bragging just info. If you want cheap +r media go to www.rima.com 100pack for 1.50 a piece. Just a question though I've read mixed results on the ps2 v7 compatability with +r media. I only ask because I am getting mine chipped and am getting a bad feeling. Oh yah its the messiah 2.

I've been burning PS2 games for the passed 2 years now on Pioneer A03/103, A04/104, and A05/105 drives and the DVD-R media that worked best for me are Verbatims, TDK, and Mitsui. I heard about Ritek DVD-R's being great and cheap for PS2 back-ups, so I just ordered a bulk myself.

Going back to what freddy4 intended:
Pioneer A04 then A05, started out w/ pioneer blanks and worked great 100%. Decided to save money so went with memorex 90% failure. Near the end chapters would get freezing and pixelation. Went back to pioneer blanks, 100% again. Their ya go helpful1.

I have been using DvdPro DVD-R media for backing up movies with 100% success rate using DVDXCopy 1.4 However they don't always work using other software. I have also used Insitepc's Premium DVD-R media which I got through ebay and they work 100% backing up DVDs with ALL my software. The DvdPro's -R media plays on every stand alone DVD player I have tried it on whereas the Insitepc's don't work on Apex players. Verbatim +Rs worked 100% with all software but also won't play on some players. Bottom line suggestion: Order the DvdPro -Rs from the Media Superstore for best pricing and best compatability if you are backing up movies using DVDXCopy!!! :-) I paid $73.00 USD for 100 of them and they also sell single and double DVD cases real cheap ($33.00 USD per 100 cases).

Burner: DVR-105
Media: DVD-Rs (Ritek)
Success Rate: 100% (Movies & PS2)

Benjimen: You can't just go off and saying -Rs and -RWs don't work. I'm glad to hear your +Rs and +RWs work but there are many of us here who have a 100% success rate with .95 DVD-Rs.

I have used DVD Decrypter, DVD2ONE, and both Nero and RecordNow MAX to backup both my movies and PS2 games. I have also used a handful of other software and have had absolutely no problems with burning and backing up all of these formats whatsoever.

How does this success relate in price?

DVR-105 $246.00
Media $0.95/each

For .95 I'm getting every PS2 game and every DVD backed up and burned successfully.

So please, before you go off and start saying how DVD-Rs are horrible, take a look at the other threads and notice that many individuals are obtaining great results. For the money that I've been spending, it has been well worthwhile.

You are so right GoConan -R are so much better for the price than +R. I'm using 0.78 DVD-R(150+ movies backups) for both movies and games no problems at all. Even at that price my DVD backups was compatible with all the DVD players that I have tested. For alot of people including me for the same price -R will always be better(better mean more compatibles) than +R. I can even play ps2 games and watch movie with -RW.

Only media tried so far Memorex +RW Verbatim -R and Sony +RW. No errors traceable to the media...only user errors ;/.

Tools I use (I have been able to make copies of copies made from DVDXCopy and from compressed InstantCopy copies).
1. If I want to keep full movie
DVDXCopy. (restrictions of this software easily bypassed)
2. If I want to compress 40% or less onto a single disk (still very viewable)
InstantCopy
3. Stripping
DVD Decryptor of course
4. Editing and trimming if for some reason the FAT of the DVD is worth the time of getting rid of.
IFOEdit of course
