What has IfoEdit got to do with media? I just got the 25 paks of Ritek 1x and Princo 4x media. The Ritek worries me because it has the same tell-tale melted plastic around the outer edge. Did I get the wrong kind of Ritek? I have burned 6 Princo disks at 4x and had 5 perfect 1 coaster.

I think if you are making coasters you either don't know what the heck you are doing or you seriously need to upgrade your equipment. I use all kinds of media and it all works and the only coasters I have made has been when I experiment, but if I just stick to what I know works every time, guess what, duh, it works everytime.

Not for nothing Benjamin, but I have burned quite a few hundreds DVD with all types of media, and now and then you get coasters sticking to what works, and I have a P4 2.53Gig with 1 Gig of Rambus, etc... And only a FOOL thinks all media works, because Ritek sucks, some Princos too along with some others...

Your vanity is starting to grate. Some of us have been doing this for much longer than your "six months of actual burning." I own three DVD burners, not to mention every burning tool free or for sale that can be found on the market. Your cocky ignorance is embarassing. Any bad media can and will produce a coaster. When I am testing media I always run a verification after burning if the disk fails the verification then there was a problem with the media not my computer, but just so you know that.
I am running a water cooled Athlon XP Barton core on an Asus A7N8X rev 2.0 clocked at 2580mhz with a FSB at 215mhz and a Gig of Corsair TwinX low latency memory. Further just to make sure that there are no HD problems I am running a matched Adaptec 2100S 128mb ram on board RAID with 4 15,000 RPM IBM SCSI hard drives. Also a separate SATA RAID running seagate drives that is my C: volume. Now this isn't the fastest system in the world, but is sure as H-ll isn't causing coasters due to through put problems. In fact I can simultainously RIP a DVD, convert a ripped file with DVD2ONE, AND burn a DVD. And I can do it over and over with no problems whatsoever! So please PLEASE have a little respect for those of us that bought the first DVD burners on the market and have been at it for a little while.

DVD-Recordable technology hasn't even been released for 6 years. and I too also been using DVD-RAM since it ever came out $3000 for burner $50 for SINGLE Media, and yes Bad media DO CAUSE COASTERS.
And those of us who is somewhat experienced with computer knows, the more we learn about computers, the less we realize we understand, and the less we boast.

You know what? Whatever, this thread isn't really worth wasting my time on anyway. And, yes, DVD recording HAS been out that long, believe it or not. I has just now being perfected and tweaked. So don't expect anymore messages from me, I will keep my valuable knowledge to myself........so feel free to make as many coasters as you like.

The problem is knowing which ones work. Over time I have noticed that quality changes. The Lead Data disks used to be awesome, but as demand went up they obviously increase the production rate and started sputtering the disks at to high a temperature. This causes the plastic to deform and introduces warping and air bubbles at the outside edge of the disk. That didn't matter to much when we were useing two disks to copy movies and each disk rarely held more than three gigs of data. However now most of us are using Shrink, DVD2One, or DVDXCOPY Express and the compression allows us to use the full capacity of the disk. The latest Ritek Go3's I just got have this same warping, however the dye is good enough that they may still provide a good medium. We shall see.
It is my experience that the manufacturers periodically change methods and materials and so this type of thread should be valuable in continuum. Ritek, Verbatim, and Pioneer seem to have the most consistant quality in DVD-R media, but I always like to try new products. I have always disliked Princo media, however their new 4X media seems to work very well and at a price slightly less than Ritek 1X that I burn at 2X speed.

I purchased an LG Multirecorder GMA-4020B. I then purchased a copy of DVDXcopy Xpress. To try out the new software/hardware I backed up 4 movies I have onto Packard Bell DVD-RW's and all worked perfectly, no distortion or loss of quality at all. However, these disks were £4.00 each and quite expensive. I have a JVC XV-S302 Stand alone dvd player which I used to replay these movies.
Can anyone suggest any cheaper -R media which should give the same results or should I just carry on using "What works for me" and pay that little extra. This is my first posting and I'm new to the DVD burning game so bear with me!!! Thanks.

Well, I can suggest this, if you purchased DVDXCopy Xpress, Hollywood has forced 321 Studios to release your name and home address to them and the court ruling was in Hollywood's favor, so guess who all is screwed? Glad I didn't buy it, but I can break off some more knowledge since you think I am a know it all anyway. Not that you will listen and use it for you benifit! You can use DVD Shrink and Pinnacle Instant copy and burn DVD movies in regular VTS and VOB format to CD-R's and they will play in DVD players. Sure the movie might span 4 or 5 discs, but hey, at 15 cents a CD-R, who really gives a flying you know what. And you know what else, no coasters! It works, try it. I am pushing a patent for my idea because it is the cheap man's DVD. And by the way, a little insight, you don't even have to have a DVD player to play these, just a CD reader and Power DVD or Win DVD, or whatever is your freakin fav. So there all you DVD burning freaks who want to know what works and what don't and are spending up to $4.00 a pop per disc. Ha ha, I laugh at your ignorance, so if you want to experiment, at least do it knowing you are going to benefit the world by burning a 75 cent DVD. Top that.

well they haven't lose yet, take a look at this page http://321studio.com/lawsuit.htm , they can't touch end users for purchasing this software, so in oppose to benjeman.. i would recommand anyone who want this software to download or buy it before it's gone.

Don't get me wrong either, I almost bought it. I wanted it so bad I could taste it, but after I heard that I got scared and if they made it a felony offense just think what they could do to us!! But I found it on Kazaa, downloaded it, cracked it, and guess what, it made two lovely coasters for me!! Can't get it to work with Verbatim +R's or Maxell +R's (4.38 gb) alias 4.7 gb.

Ben, didn't you promise to leave forever? If you read the case up to the present you will see that the court is currently waiting for Copyright Office of the Library of Congress to finish their public hearings. They haven't even motioned the court for a release of current owners yet. I own all their products, but only use them on rare occasion as in most cases I just want the movie without all the warnings on my backups. BTW you may want to research the difference between a patent and a copyright.
Everyone:
I just finished my first pack of 25 4X Princo DVD-R a total of 3 coasters out of 25. This isn't the greatest success rate, but since they are cheaper than the Ritek 1x I decided to go with them for this order. I just can't resist, with 4X it takes about 15 minutes to burn a full disk. I will let everyone know if the 100 pack is of a different quality than the 25 pack.

Great job Zerxez with the 4x, my A05 on XP, did 4x for like the first 3 times... after that it kicks it out as an error... can't get it to go 4x anymore, suxs... Using RecordNow Max & Decrypter. Also my Liteonit L66s is on PIO Mode only, and I can't change it. I did do 4x for like the first 3. Next day, never again... suxs... It does 2x, but 4x is sweet...

In response to both boriqua and Ben:) Sorry if I was a bit over-bearing Ben.
I don't know what firmware you are running boriqua, but in the forums you will find a hacked firmware. Get it here http://forum.rpc1.org/viewtopic.php?t=12632 This is a very solid hack and also allows your A05 to rip at 12X assuming you aren't using a separate 16X ripper. It also allows 2X burning of 1x media. Read the site carefully to make sure you update correctly! As to the software used most. The easiest, cleanest way I have found to rip and burn is as follows:
I rip the DVD with SmartRipper 2.41 in file mode with all files selected. Then use DVD2One to convert the raw files into a burnable form. Next I burn using Nero 5.5.10.20. Now there have been complaints about Nero and so in addition make sure that:
Nero is in DVD compatibility mode (your files have to be at least 1GB for this to work). And make certain you have DEselected Joliet. Burn in ISO/UDF format and follow the conventions (e.g. your VIDEO_TS folder has to be in all caps etc.).
I also use many other tools, but for the majority of movies this is pretty bullet proof.
