I am not a newb to burning and ripping DVD's. But i do have a question, I was using DVD shrink and DVD43 for the past few months. I just bought AnyDVD to compensate for dvd43's weaknesses and lack of updates. I am wondering if AnyDVD/Slysoft is going to continue supporting products like DVDShrink. I know they are compatible with 1Clickdvdcopy and other programs that are still supported and can change code to todays standards. in my opinion DVDShrink is still the best out there for shrinking down a DVD and not having it look like crap. So basically i am asking if anyone knows if Slysoft is going to continue supporting DVDShrink's weaknesses. (I Hope So)

I did the same as you dsector. I bought AnyDVD because DVD43 was not being regularly supported. I think Lightning UK made DVD Shrink, and went on to work for Nero, making Nero Recode 2. SlySoft has their own transcoding program CloneDVD2, and i think they support Shrink indirectly, just as they do with all transcoding tools, by keeping AnyDVD updated. Have you asked this question at SlySoft? They are the only ones who can truely answer this question. DVD Shrink is the program i first started ripping DVDs with, and i still like it the best. Shrink isn't regularly updated, and doesn't seem to need an update. Some programs may be faster, or take longer and do a better job at shrinking a DVD9 to a DVD5, but shrink seems to be one of those rare, almost perfect, software programs that does what it say it will, but with style.
For the latest encryptions out there, AnyDVD and DVD FabDecrypter are the only two i have seen that get the updates out quickly. And they crack anything thrown at them so far.
I dont work for SlySoft btw. Hope my 2 cents helped.

@dsector.
1)anydvd doesn't really support any program, what it does is to decrypt in the background and the dvd appears to be unprotected. so AnyDVD would work with any ripping/transcoding program. so to answer your question, yes AnyDVD will continue working with shrink.
@maxburn. lightning UK is not the author of shrink, he is the author of the great dvdDecrypter. we only know of shrink author by his forum name, "dvdshrink". and yes, he went to work for Nero which is why Nero recode2 is so similar to shrink. when you said that shrink doesn't need an update, you are so right, the little program is still great. lastly, AnyDVD is the best decrypter outthere.

Nero Recode2 or Shrink using deep analysis and AEC/ fabdecrypter or anydvd running in the background/ IMGBurn to burn/main movie only mode= perfect.

Just for clarification, LIGHTNING UK! made DVD Decrypter. dvdshrink made DVD Shrink.

Yes AnyDVD does support tools that are discontinued and all tools that are out there. i found this in the history for the newest update about your question.

Changes from AnyDVD v5.4.4.1 to AnyDVD v5.5.1.1

New: Added functionality to remove invalid VOBUs from a title set to the option to remove "Protection based on unreadable Sectors". This fixes the error message "Out of memory" from DVDShrink with some DVDs, which suffer from a certain mastering error.
Fix: The option to remove "Protection based on unreadable Sectors" could cause DVDShrink to abort with an "invalid Navigation structure" error with some DVDs, which suffer from a certain mastering error.
Fix: Setup program did not delete obsolete RegCheck.exe file from previous installations
Fix: Undesired high CPU use for several minutes when checking for program update via internet connection

Using DVD Shrink while anydvd(updated) is running in the backgound and i have a quick question. As DVD Shrink is encoding where it says decryption status i have b4:c5:b5 or something like that.Is that normal?

Anydvd has always been sort of designed to work with CloneDVD as the ripping, compressing, and burning software. The fact that AnyDVD works well with most other programs is a bonus. If there comes a day it doesn't work with Shrink as an example, you can be pretty sure it will work with CloneDVD.

The code you are referring to is the decryption key.

You can tell if AnyDVD is doing its job by the little red fox in the task tray. It will be red, then go pale, and turn red again.

This is an excellent program. I pretty much use it anytime I want to do a backup regardless of the process I am going to use.

Morning LOCOENG.
Were you working yesterday?

Every time i have used AnyDVD or DVD43 while using DVD Shrink the Encryption window would say not encrypted. DVD Shrink should not be decrypting if one of these programs is running in the background. Also i did notice that the navigation structure error for Bewitched still existed after the update to AnyDVD (Using DVD Shrink). Then i tried to backup an old movie (The long kiss goodnight) With AnyDVD and DVD Shrink and they couldn't do it. Kept getting Errors invalid file structure right when i would click on the open button on Shrink. Kinda strange but i have seen many posts about The long kiss goodnight and nobody has come up with a fix that i can find. (Rip it with DVD Fab decrypter Then burn it with Nero ignoring the 2 errors it gives you. It will work. No Menu though) AnyDVD is an excellent program but in my opinion is kinda limited if all you use is DVD Shrink. I would like some opinions on some software that is worth the cash though. Is it worth spending money on something like 1Clickdvdcopy? CloneDVD2? DVDFab? I used 1Click and wasn't to impressed. Tried out CloneDVD2 and it took my PC 11 Hours to backup Family Guy Season 1 disk 1 When it only took DVDShrink 3 Hours. Also i had AnyDVD running in the background using all these programs.
Disclaimer: I do not claim to know everything or even 1 quarter of anything to do with DVD backups. I am basing what i am saying on what i have found using my PC with this software.

dsector,
I have never had a problem w/ AnyDVD, DVDDecrypter or DVDFAB Decrypter and did Bewitched w/ no problems. Since I used another program besides Shrink for the hell of it just did the movie using Shrink/AnyDVD and had no problems. I have not tried the other movie you mentioned "The Long Kiss Goodnight".

Just curious as to what your system specs are because 11 hrs w/ 1 program and 3 hrs. w/ Shrink are way too long. Did LOTR for my neighbor last weekend and he wanted to learn how to use Shrink and he wanted the whole disk copied. We ripped it in about 10 minutes, approx 45 minutes to do Deep analysis and AEC on Smooth and 14 minutes to burn. His specs are P-4 2.6 cpu mhz 512 ram, Pioneer burner A08 .

The program I am now using is DVD-Rebuilder. To do a movie now is about 2- 2 1/2 hours but I am encoding the movie and not transcoding like DVDShrink does. If I find there is 20 % compression then I use DVD-Rebuilder and anything less I use Shrink. There is a free version of the program available here on the site and you might want to look at it. If you want the Pro version it will cost you $29.95 and if you use CCE that will cost you $58.00 but you do not have to use CCE as the program has other encoders for you to use. If I do a D/L DVD then I use DVDDecrypter .iso read > to iso write. That is the best program bar none to find the layer break properly

The PC i use to Backup DVD's is a 750mhz AMD Duron. I thought it was a long time also. the longst Shrink has EVER gone is 4 hours doing something like 24 or The Sopranos. But CloneDVD2 Was killing me with Family Guy. Oh and i know that a 750MHZ duron kinda Sucks but 97% of the time i get Flawless backups. The key is putting it in before going to bed. LMAO.

dsector,
You might need to upgrade your specs as that one is about 5+ years old. It will do movies as you found out but it will be slow

I'll check out Rebuilder, Thanks!. Yah i know the Duron slow. But like i said 4 hours max on any movie using shrink 11+ using CloneDVD2. Mabe CloneDVD2 requires more processing power to run and Shrink doesnt, making CloneDVD2 Lag down. (just Guessing)

I'm with car.mike, save the money on rebuilder and CCE and buy a compaq with a DVD burner @circuit city, best buy, office depot, or staples. they are always running deals for around $399-499, especially with x-mas coming up.
