Shrink DVD Slow on AMD 64

DVD Shrink v3.2.0.15 is running extremely slow. About 60 minutes to rip a DVD i.e. Batman Begins, or Half-Baked.
It use to take 3 minutes to rip a DVD but now it makes no sense. I have reloaded my system from scratch multiple times and still the same issues.
It did the same thing with Windows XP 64bit. It works correctly for days then out of the blue it slows down. I have replaced the motherboard (MSI 7125) cpu, ram, hd and DVD.
My system is as follow.
AMD 3500+ 64bit.
Windows XP Pro SP2 dual boot with windows xp 64bit pro.
2GB RAM
2 ? 200GB WD SATA Drives (no raid)
HP ? DVD 630c 8x (firmware upgraded from 4x to 8x
I also have another system a Compaq 3200+ that runs perfect about 12 minutes to rip with 512gb ram 160 PATA drive, windows xp ?pro sp2. This system is not using windows 64 bit.
Anyone else have a the same issue?

Are you using an external hard drive?

I heard somewhere that shrink and rippin DVDs is a job better suited for Intel's P4. But I'm not sure. It could be
1)a DMA setting
2)you haven't been defraging your HD often enough
3)or have spyware/malware.
SOLUTIONS
1)search this I don't feel like searching for you, just search "DMA settings" here at Afterdawn.
2)you can defrag using the Window's defrag utitlity but not a effiecient as storebought software. You can download perfectdisk 7 for a 30 day trial.
3)YOu should download lavasoft's Ad-Aware, arguebly the best free spyware/malware remover. Yoy have to go to downloads.com to download it.

@su27, friend I'm not so sure that it would be the Amd 64...as I have teh amd 64 3500+ and shringk as well as recode 2 moves very fast...30 minutes tops, and I have found that using Rebuilder Pro/CCE Basic typically for a 2 1/2 movie will take 130 minutes (2 hr. and 10 mins.) that doesn't include burn but with my other system it takes a little longer. I would check your DMA settings and make sure that there isn't anything running in the background that could cause the system to slow. I only have 512 mb ram and I actually do other jobs while Rebuidler is doing it's thing.

I must be doing something wrong? The fastest i've been able to rip is about 40 min, and then another 40 min to burn on disc.
I've got a P-4 computer2.4 ghz cpu, 512 megs ram. and a brand new lg-4167 dvd burner with upgraded firmware (v12) and 'dma enabled.
What am I doing wrong? is there a speed setting in the read/rip mode of DVD Shrink? maybe i got that set on 1 or something?
Any suggestions? I would love to be able to rip in about 5 or 6 min.

If you are using a Burner to rip the movie most of them are locked at 2X. That is why most of the members here use a DVD-Rom to rip from. I can usually rip a DVD-9 ( encrypted ) in about 12-14 minutes. If it is a DVD-5 (no encryption) 3-5 minutes. You will not do a Dual Layer encrypted DVD in 5 minutes.
In DVDShrink go to Backup> Burn settings and set the speed to what your burner can do and the blank media allows. Suggest you do no more than 4X though as you are looking for quality not speed

You are right, i only have the one drive, and its a dvd burner. well actually its a dvd-rom, dvd-ram, dvd burner, and cd reader and burner all in one.

I have verified that the bios is set to use DMA and Windows reports DMA-2 33. I have also moved the drive to Master and Slave ports on both IDE interfaces 0 and 1.
Like I said the system will work fine for a couple of days then it just crawls. I have also isolated the system from the network as not to get software updates from any source. I have also used the standard drivers from Microsoft for the IDE and also the Drivers from NVIDIA. I have used another DVD burner and DVD-ROM readers but this has not helped.
As far as defrag this is a not an issue, as I have formated the drive, installed the os and then shrink dvd and tried a burn and it works great for the first couple of days (about 8 movies 2+ hours) and then it just goes to a slow crawl. but still can't figure it out. I am going to wipe the drive this morning and install windows 2000 pro with no service packs or antivirus (of course not connected to the network).
I basically believe that there is an issue with the software with the AMD64 3500+, I believe this because as stated earlier I have a 3200+ and it works as expected. I was suprised that a typical rip took 3-4 minutes (amd64 +3500 xp pro/sp2, 2hour dvd) when it took 16minutes on the 3200+. At first I thought that it must be an error but after burning the DVD and watching the movie it was not a mistake. But now it takes 40+ minutes for the same movie.
Do you know where I can find archived versions of Shrink DVD to try and isolate the software?
Any other thoughts?
P.S.
I also have a HP laptop with an AMD64 3200+, 1GB ram 80GBHD winxp home sp2. I have used this in the past but it runs an average 24minutes for a 2hour movie. I epected this because the ram runs at 333mhz instead of 400+. No issues with this box.

Seems real slow to me too. I can decrypt shrink and burn in about 30 to 45 mins depending on the DVD. CloneDVD2 does it in about the same amount of time.

I am having the EXACT same problem. I have an Athlon 64 HP Media Center(not sure if it's 3500). Everything was cool. ran DVD-Shrink a few times, now the DVD-RW drive is slow as hell.
It's even slow in other applications. Not sure what the deal is.
This happened once before and the only thing I could do is do a system recovery and that worked just fine.
Anyways might have to do another system recover. urrrrrgh.

Also want to mention burning is now slow with Itunes.
Reading DVD-Rom's is now a problem.
No idea what the heck is going on, but it was just fine before DVD-Shrink/Nero were installed. May need to give up on those two programs. Find a new one? Any suggestions?
