well a friend of mine is having problems with shrink, tried everything from making sure the target device is right. and also made sure there was enough room on the disc to burn what he wanted. after it gets done encoding it says checking for discs all the time. put a blank disc in it still says it. would firm ware be the problem the writer is an hp740 dual layered lightscribe. tried looking for firm ware cant seem to find anything

Not sure if this is a firmware problem. However you should be able to find an update to firmware at drives manufacturer site. What app is your friend using to burn? Check the preferences in Shrink and go to the File I/O tab and make sure check marks are there for burn settings, even if no using Nero. click ok and try back up again. Hope this helps

checked preferances under I/O tab as well also. and he is using Nero dvd burning software.

List the details of your buddys burner and firmware version. You can use the last link in my signature block to check firmware. It sounds to me like that is probably the issue with it not recognizing the media.
