Hi there, any help with my problem will be greatly appreciated. I use DVD Shrink and Nero to back up DVDs. It all works fine until I try to burn to a Dual Layer disc. I have updated all my drivers and updated Nero but to no avail. I am using Bulkpaq DVD +R DL in my Philips PBDV 1640P.

The error message I get is as follows (sorry it is so long)

First edit out your serial#...it begins with 1A20.

Your PC is not recognizing your burner. The solution could be fixed in the next suggestion.

DMA need to be enabled on all drives. You can change this through your device manager.

Disc Manufacturer ID: CMC MAG
CMags are some of the worst discs you can use. Just search the site and you find hundreds of complaints about this media.

Since I have not tried a DL burn I would assume that the disc only burned to the layer break.

The INCD packet included with Nero is notorious for alot of problems. You need to uninstall Nero and reinstall, leaving out the INCD packet.

These are a few things I picked up and should get you going again, but I'm sure others will be by with more tweaks.

Also why not just use DVD Decrypter in ISO->read mode and then burn in ISO->write mode with the MDS file? It is supposed to do a much better job at DL backups than most other programs.

Hi Locoeng,

I ve finally had time to look at your answer properly. Couple of questions - 1. I can't find an option to enable DMA for my drives in Device manager. Windows help says i should have a resource tab to click on after i have double clicked on the drive i want to change but there is no sign of a resource tab or anything to do with the DMA for the drives. Not sure if you might be able to shed some light on this for me.

2. You suggest uninstalling Nero and then reinstalling it leaving out INCD. What does the INcd function actually do? Will I be missing out on anything if I do omit it? Also what problems can it cause by having it there?

I ve done everything else you have suggested - Decrypter couldnt burn to my crappy DL discs either! I m ordering some decent ones today.

Thanks for your help.

1st go to My Computer

Then

Then

Then

Then do the same for your secondary.

As far as the InCD function goes I don't think I really know what it does, but every thread I've discourages the use of it. I don't use Nero on a regular basis so I don't really know about all of its functions, plus I've always had better luck with DVD Shrink. From what I've read it created a lot of conflicts within your system.

Also on those DL burns make sure you keep your burn speed down to 2.4X.
