Here is a new on for me. After using dvd decrypter to get the movie onto my hdd, I get an error using dvd shrink. At about 57% I get the following error: "Dvd shrink encountered a problem and cannot continue. Out of memory. The paging file is too small for this operation to complete."
Any help with this one? Thanks in advance.

This error is caused by the copy protection on the disk. You cannot do this movie with Shrink alone. Check out the other threads on this movie in the Shrink forum for more information on doing the movie.

I did not try it with shrink alone. I first ripped it to the hdd with decrypter, and tried shrink with AnyDVD running in the background.

Can you provide some system information? How much ram do you have and what processor?
Have you shut down all other processes while trying to shrink and burn. Shrink is incredibly CPU intensive using about 100% of system resources so if you have other things running in the background you could be causing problems. Make sure you turn off the antivirus, no internet while ripping and burning, shut down spyware blockers and popup blockers.
Here is a link that will assist you in turning off un-needed programs.

Hope that this helps you out. Post back if you still have problems.

For what its worth regarding Madagascar, had problems with it.Used DVDXcopy platinum..no luck. Tried shrink with dvd43free..no luck.Tried copying files using decryptor but couldnt get it to shrink.FINALLY used dvd decryptor and created an iso image then took the image file NOT the mds and was able to shrink it.Then used Nero to burn a video file disk.Didnt have access to slysoft and the dvd43free didnt help.Did not have anything running in background when I used decryptor to make the iso file and when I used shrink to compress the iso file

They have released a new version of DVDFab Decrypter. It fixes the "Madagascar" issue. This is taken from the change log in DVDFab Decrypter 2.9.5.8:
Quote: "2.9.5.8 (11/18/2005)
- Change: Added support for a new protection as found on "Madagascar" (US).
It's not a Sony movie, but the protection is almost same with Sony ARccOS."
Make sure you uninstall your current version of DVDFab Decrypter before you install this version!!
You can get it here: DVDIdle.com/free.htm" class="korostus" target="_blank">http://www.DVDIdle.com/free.htm

After several failed attempts copying Madagascar, I was finallu successful following advice from tone28 on a different thread. This is what worked for me..(I was also getting the 'out of memory' error message in shrink and Nero recode) You need the latest version of DVDFAB to crack protection otherwise shrink can't open the decrypted files. THEN you have to run the decrypted files through a free program called VOBBLANKER. Once you have this, select your files in the input area and nominate a folder for the altered files (output). Open VTS8 and you should see 5 titles. Highlight 2-5 then press 'blank' on the right hand side, the press 'process' at tne bottom of screen. When files completed, run through dvdshrink as normal. This worked perfectly for me.. It seems problems with shrink are part of the protection setup not a memory problem at all...All credit for this remedy goes to tone 28. Good Luck!

A simple method to bypass the protection and rip Madagascar is:
Rip using the ISO Read mode in DVD Decrypter
Open DVD Shrink - Go to File - Open Disk Image
Analyse - Re-Author - then burn with Nero or similar.

i did Madagascar effortlessly last night with DVDFab Decrypter 2.9.6.0 (free) then Shrunk with DVD Shrink as normal. what i did do was use my dvd-rom/cd-write combo drive (like io do for most of my ripping); didn't try to rip it on any of my dvd burners as i'd done the movie already but it's always nice to have a couple of optical drives..as if a movie won't play ball on one drive you always have a choice of drives to use..

I've tried everthing to burn a backup of the said animal animated movie, and what you said is the only thing that has worked!
Fabdvd, AnyDVD, etc etc, none of them worked, kept getting memory errors or the blank disc wasn't recognised. I never knew you could load image files in shrink! THANKS!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi
I'm not sure that making a backup at all is legal is it?
What is the law regarding this anyway,,,anybody?
Are you allowed to back up dvd's if you own the original (which seems to be the common view) or not?
please only say if you KNOW, as lots of people I'm sure think they know but probably don't as I know for sure that you are NOT allowed to copy music onto your computer as MP3, even if you do own the CD!

I've tried it a couple of different ways now and the easiest that has worked for me is:
1) have anydvd running in the background
2) use dvd decrypter to ripp in ISO mode
3) Load the ISO into shrink and do what you want with it
4) Burn in shrink (choosing nero as the burner)
Or if you save as a new ISO in shrink instead of burning straight to disc, then you will have a nice simple 'less than 4 gig' ISO which you can then burn again and again using Nero without shrink having to do all that stupid 'analysing' stuff every time you open it up!

OK, so
I followed the instrucitons
DVD fab, VOB blanker and shrink
It worked for me.. thanks
just curious what the 4 files VOB blanker processed? How did someone figure out processing 4 files would fix the problem..
what problem was fixed and how did they figure out what had to be done?
