I know this will sound stupid to most of you. If the dvd is less than (2) hours, why does it have to be shrinked? It take forever for me to shrink, encode, than copy. Any shortcuts? please advise...

Time really isnt the factor if its 1,2 or 3 hours long it really doesnt matter. You need to look at the sive if it's over 4.4Gb then you will need to Shrink it. If not then there is no need to run it through Shrink. If you want to backup a little faster in Shrink then uncheck the quality enhancements and it will go much quicker, but you could possibly lose some quality, and I am not really sure that is worth the time saved? If and when I use Shrink I just leave the quality enhancements on I would rather have a good copy than take a chance on a bad one. Patience grass hopper :-)
Cheers

Also make sure you are in dma mode and not the sloooow pio mode.
Here's a link from bbmayo's guides:
http://home.comcast.net/~bbmayo/checking%20DMA.pdf The time it takes also depends on your system specs and what options you have checked. How long does it take you?

I checked to see if my controllers were in DMA ot PIO mode. Here's what I found:
Primary:Device 0
Transfer Mode=DMA if available
Current Transfer Mode=Ultra DMA Mode 5
Device I - Device Type= Auto Detection
Transfer Mode= DMA if available
Current Transfer Mode= Not applicable
Secondary:Device 0
Transfer Mode=DMA if available
Current Transfer Mode=Ultra DMA Mode 2
Device I= Transfer Mode=PIO only
Changed to "DMA if available"
Current Transfer Mode=PIO
It take approximately 1.5-2.0 hrs to encode, then burn an entire dvd. Shouldn't the burn process be much faster?

essay55,
The device below needs to be in DMA Mode as it is in PIO. Right click and then click uninstall and now re-boot and let Windows reinstall it properly. You also might want to d/l a Free Registry Cleaner and clean out your registry as that also cause conflicts in the registry. Your OS is having conflicts w/ something and that is why it is in PIO mode
Device I= Transfer Mode=PIO only
Changed to "DMA if available"
Current Transfer Mode=PIO

Are you saying that my controllers should be in PIO mode? My understanding is that makes the computer run slooooooooooow. I am going to uninstall them and then see what happens.

From Car.Mike's post: Quote: The device below needs to be in DMA Mode
So yes dma is the mode you want.

Thanks for the advice. You also mentioned a registry cleaner. I downloaded on that scanned my pc for free, but wanted me to register before it repaired "all" of the errors it found. Any suggestions?

It just took me 3 hr 22 mins to decode and burn "ray". Isn't this a bit excessive. My ex roomate had shrink and Nero and i don't remember it ever taking this long. Also, I'm trying to decide between registry mechanic and error nuker. Please advise...

Since binkie7 uses Registry Mechanic you might try it. Have never tried error nuker as I use a different one.
Your times on trancoding and burning are really dependent on your computers specs but they do seem a bit excessive

Never used error nuker only registry mechanic. So far no conflicts but I usually run it every so often esp. after I uninstall a program.
Yes those times are a bit excesssive. Using shrink burning at 4x w/ a 500 mhz 128 ram pc it would take me about 2-1/2 hrs.

It rarely takes longer than 45 minutes to rip and burn. I can't address Nero as I use decrypter to burn.
