Hi everyone. I'm new here. Sometimes what causes cyclical error on shrink and other programmes such as Decrypter or CloneDVD is not only scratches or dirty. I had an experience with ''welcome to the jungle'' (the movie was released last year). It's a Sony movie, but shrink and DVD43 didn't work out. I've try with CloneDVD and AnyDVD on the background with no success. The movie was ok (no scratches or dirty). Then I remembered to change it. I went to the store and brought a new one and this time it just worked fine with shrink and DVD43. So, my conclusion is: sometimes the discs are defectives (even if we see no scratches or dirty on them). When this happens the solution is get other disc in good conditions.

Your very right ZagoreX. I should have included bad pressings.

In addition to dirty discs, and scratched discs, and damaged discs, and also in addition to "bad pressings," it is also quite common now to see a CRC cyclic redundancy error in DVDShrink if you try to use it one of the newer forms of copy protection (some of the Sony ARccOS protected ones, and also the "Running boy / Jumping boy" discs that have corrupt video data in the unreferenced material.

That is, if the error occurs in DVDShrink, and it looks like this:

"DVD Shrink encountered and error and can not continue
Failed to read file '(Device)\' Data error (cyclic redundancy check)"

I have seen the error above a lot recently onthe Sony / Columbia / Tristar recent releases, and the solution did not involve a cleaning, or an exchange. It involved a different method of ripping, either using other software or running additional software in the background.

I do agree that MOST instances of the CRC cyclic redundancy error are (overall) still due to a problem with dirt, fingersmudges, scratches, and damage. But, if it is a recent disc, this is not always the case.

Just to help in our complete understanding.

-Bruce

I am getting a cyclical redundancy check when copying large files from my mp3 player to my hard drive. This seems to be because I accidentally compressed the data or similar. The files play find on my mp3 player but I can not move them ... is this similar or any suggestions?

Cheers

George
