why when im backing up the sopranos season 2 disc 1 it will start and get up to 5 percent and then it will come up with an error what can i do to fix this?

As jmet indicated, you need to provide more information to have the problem correctly analyzed.

Is it a CRC error?

If so it might be a dirty, scratched, or smudged disk. You could try ripping with DVDFab decrypter. This program can rip difficult problem discs - no guarantee, but its a free program so nothing to lose by trying.
