Here's the deal.... I've been happily backing up all my movies with the DVD Decrypter/Shrink combo. Recently this has not been working for me.(I know RIP DVD Decrypter) :( I've been reading through the posts and I just want to make sure I understand what I now should do.
1. Run AnyDVD in the 'backround.' To me this means just download it and ignore it. Is this correct?
2. Now I just continue like before. Decrypt, Shrink and Burn with Decrypter?
Am I on the right track? Any better ways to do this? Will this work with all the New movies and the new protection?
As always Thank You, Thank You, Thank You!!!

Once you download AnyDVD and install it- a default setting is autostart - just leave it at that. The fox will be red in your taskbar meaning it's on. That's it.
Actually with AnyDVD you can take out one step - decrypt. Just use shrink to rip and compress than burn w/ decrypter. AnyDVD makes the disc appear to be free of copy protections. And yes it will work with all the new movies and protections.

Yep very easy - just open the disc in shrink- w/ AnyDVD running in the background it enables shrink to do all those new movies.
Glad we could help!

am I correct, is "any dvd" the same as the "dvd4.3" with the icon that goes from face to devil back to smiley face. I understand that this should run in the background and then continue to run your usual software. In my case I use "DVD Shrink". Unfortunately I still have issues with Madagascar. It seems to run out of space even though I have shrink set to auto. I finally ripped with DVD Decrypter than use DVD2One so I could atleast get the movies. But the shorts and extras would be nice as well. Any ideas. Still a newbie with only 500 titles to my name.

Yes AnyDVD is the same as DVD43 but it's a fox that turns red instead. It's also better and updated more often to handle movies like Madagascar. In fact it was updated last night to 5.6.1.1 to handle the widescreen version of this movie which has the macrovision rip guard on it. Since DVD Decrypter is no longer updated you'll need AnyDVD or dvd fab decrypter (like decrypter) for the newer movies.

Thanks Binkie,
but I still am a little confused. I ran DVD43 in the background for Bewitched and it decrypted fine with DVD Decrypter but I still could not run DVD Shrink without it going over the required space. Nothing I did would allow the size to be reduced. I finally tried Instant Copy, what a mistake. It didn't see all the files and only copied about 20% of the movie. I tried the same with DVD2One and same problem.
I understand some of the other threads dealing with what I believe was re-authoring but there must be simple way to do this with these type of movies.

DVD43 is not updated for the newer encryptions as rapidly as AnyDVD (which stays on top of the game on a daily basis). I did Bewitched with AnyDVD and Shrink with no problems at all.
You should consider using AnyDVD as part of your arsonal. If not that then get DVDFab decrypter which is also updated regularly.

I remember seeing a thread somewhere here about the size problem with bewitched after ripped usiing w/ shrink but there are so many bewitched threads - geez I gave up.
I did the same as 9mmruger1 - used AnyDVD in the background w/ shrink - had no problems. My suggestion would be to dl the 21 free trial of AnyDVD then redo w/ shrink. imo it would save you alot of time.

Blinkie,
Funny thing, Bewitched worked fine with trial version of AnyDVD but
I could not do Madagascar because it came up with an error of a file folder being too small or something like that. I had to cancel Shrink and just live with the DVD2One version I had done several days ago with just the movie title and no extras. Go figure?

I'm new and yes I have run into the familiar "Can't backup the new stuff" group. You all mention Shrink a lot but I was wondering if you can use DVD Copy 3 Platinum as a transcoder to shrink the video. I have been using DVD Decrypter and Intervideo DVD Copy 3 for a long time. Will it still work if I use AnyDVD and DVD Decrypter for decrypting? By the way, this forum is awesome. Thanx

I used AnyDVD and clone2 to do madagascar. No problems. There are tons of threads here about how to do and the problems with madagascar. Dust off the cobwebs on clone2 and use the clone way as aabbccdd suggested.

Yes it wil still work if you use AnyDVD and decrypter. AnyDVD 'helps' decrypter with the copy protections it can no longer handle. See aabbccdd post above for how to set decryper to work w/ AnyDVD.
For compression I'd use shrink over DVD Copy 3 Platinum any day - better end result imo.

Hey KP1:
After decrypting with DVD Decrypter, check the right side which has all different files that can be uncheck. You can try deleting some of the audio programs like the French audio version or/and different audio setting that you wont use so you can get under the 4600mb or so redline where DVD Shrink fails...

hmm, i'm not sure if it's the scratches or the protection on this dvd (are we there yet) that's not letting me rip it... it usually stops on the third vob, VTS_03_1.VOB - i'm using latest version of dvd decrypter (yes, with the right settings - ElbyCDIO) and anydvd.

I'm pretty sure Are We There Yet was one of those funky sony ones but AnyDVD with the correct settings in decrypter should handle it. Decrypter is usually pretty good with scratched discs. What error are you getting? Alot of read errors?
Try this guide for hard to rip dvd's.
http://www.dvdplusvideo.com/petesguide9.html You can also try dvd fab decrypter. If all fails exchange for a new one.
