Well heres my problem, I Used dvdfab decrypter with no problems. Then I used shrink but half way through encoding it gives me a error that says that shrink is out of memory and can not continue. Anybody have any ideas.

Hi jdk5197 ,

DVD Shrink doesn't have any memory, your PC has.

Let's find out where your problem lies ~

1. How much RAM do you have ?

2. How much FREE HD space do you have ?

3. Have you ever gone into msconfig and turned off all the programs you have installed on youyr PC ?

hi, this may help - http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/261157

but what is odd is dvdfab decrypter should have got around this issue and therefore Shrink would just be able to do it's thing.

...it's possible we're not talking abut the same 'out of memory' error..

edit - i'll wager you're tslking about Madagascar in which case there are gazillions of threads to search thru in 1st couple pages of this very forum (Shrink forum)

The page file sys is a hidden file that is used when you do not have enough memory to complete a job. You can go in through Task Mgr and increase both the minimum and maximum but this should not be necessary because there should be enough memory to do the job. Go into your Task Mgr and see how much free memory you are using and then as suggested turn off some of background programs. Just what movie are you trying to do, and have you tried Shrink in reauthor and doing the movie only and getting rid of all the unecessary audio and subs?

jdk5197,

You may have 512 MB of RAM BUT every time you load a program, it loads itself into your startup folder SO that when you boot up your PC, you require RAM to run all of your programs. The only programs you should have running when you boot up is:
1. Your AntiVirus program
2. Your Firewall

All other programs will take a fraction of a second to start when you open them. It's the only thing you'll notice because they won't already be open when your PC started.

Go to, "Start", RUN, type in, "msconfig" click, "OK". When the window opens, go to the "Startup" tab. Select, "Disable All", APPLY, "OK", OK again and "OK" to reboot. Now you'll have your 512 MB of RAM to work with.

I have seen pple with 512 MB of RAM and they have had only 112 MB of RAM to run a program with. Trust me, you cannot run DVD video backup programs with 112 MB of RAM.

Adjusting RAM -

To increase your RAM you may change your Physical RAM and you can change your Page file (K). If you want to increase your page file *(K), right-click on your taskbar and click Task Manager. In the Task Manager, click on the Performance tab. Look at the entries in the Commit Charge frame. The Peak entry gives you an indication of the maximum amount of memory used by your computer since the last time it was started. The optimum amount of RAM is equal to this value (assuming the computer has been running for several days and you've run your typical programs during that time). See the Limit entry. This is the total of your RAM and page file (K). The limit should be a minimum of 2X the Peak value. If you can't buy more RAM, you can increase your page file size to increase the Limit value.

To adjust your Virtual Memory go to "Control Panel" ~> System ~> Advanced tab ~> Performance ~> Settings. Now under "Performance Options" ~> Advanced tab ~> Virtual Memory ~> change. Now you can enter the value you deem necessary.

NOTE: Remember that adding RAM chips should be done in even numbers. Done in odd amounts, i.e. 3 slots of 512 DDR-SDRAM slows down your data transfer to 1X whereas 2 slots of 512 DDR-SDRAM passes data at 2X.

* Kernel (K)

I hope that helps,

Pete
