I know this has kind have been covered, but I've tried reading through the other threads and people are asking different things, it's all getting very confusing so I'm starting this one as a seperate question.

In short, DVD shrink (using nero) DVD Decrypter, and Nero alone are refusing to accept that there is a blank DVD-R in my drive.

Yes incase you are wondering, it is Madagascar! I've done all the stuff with anydvd and dvdfab etc and it has ripped the disc fine (movie only) but that's all another thread.

All I want to know is why with this particular movie, somehow causes all my programs to not see the blank disc in the drive. The discs is fin, the drive is fine, I can burn anything else with no problems but when loading up this ISO in shrink, nero whatever, it never sees the blank disc.

What's going on??????

Make sure your firmware is up to date...if you don't know how, post the model# and brand name of your drive here, and someone will help you.

I agree with LOCOENG, sounds like a firmware issue. With DVDdecrypter program open, Click mode>Write and then you will see your drive and firmware version in the upper right hand side of the view pane.

Notice mine says HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA 4163B A105 (ATA)

This is the drive and firmware version. What does yours say?

Hi Guys, thanks for the reply.

Mine says: SONY DVD RW DW-U18A UYS1 (ATA)

You could well be right, but does that sound likely to only happen when trying to burn a particular movie (madagascar)
Example, load up a movie iso in Nero and pop a disc in and it sees the disc, starts burning. Then load up the madagascar iso and no matter what program i use to burn, it never sees the blank disc!

I have since managed to burn it fine so it's not too important now, but would still be interested to know what was happening!
(burnt ok by using DVD Decrypter whilst running AnyDVD, then reauthoring in DVD Shrink, movie only and it burnt ok from shrink using nero)

Your firmware appears to be up to date. You can save a step by running AnyDVD behind DVD Shrink and then burning with DVD Decrypter.

@chrisfunk

Locoeng's method is the one that I am employing now. AnyDVD in the background, DVDShrink, and DVD Decrypter to burn. The only time that I rip with DVD Decrytper now is if I have a difficult disc in shrink or I have lots of time to waste. :)

Glad that your burning is working now. If you have problems feel free to get back to us.

Yeah, I think that'll be my prefered method now (until they think of some new copy protection anyway!)
It's stuff like this that's the main reason I even do all this dvd abd xbob 'backup' stuff. I spend more time ripping and burning than playing or watching, and I certainly don't make any money out of it!
So it's even kinda fun when something like this comes along, and really satisfying when we manage to find ways around it!

Bring on blu ray!!!

thanks for all your help !!!

edit: oops, xbox, not 'xbob' haha, maybe that'll be console number 3???

For Magadascar there're a lot of threads in AD forums. The problem is in the protection of the specific movie. You can follow Cynthia's steps using PSL2 files from DVDDecrypter or blank PGC#2 and PGC#3 of the .VOB_1_* series. leaving only PGC #1.
