These friends are designing games and after market support software to help developers - they probebly understand it better than Sony. They have specifically said that whilst microsoft offer great support to designers, the PS3 has poor software support which is really only basic, since the hardware was designed before any software was thought up... Sony are notorious for making games consoles incredibly hard to code for, and since they do not use a windows base like microsoft with the w2k base for both xbox and xbox 360, or an opengl based design like nintendo, they have to get used to a new development environment every time Sony make a new console. The console is powerful, I do not debate that, but a lot of that power will never be used because it is such a complicated piece of hardware, speak to some designers who aren't being fed money to tell lies. Sony is the ultimate hype machine. The funniest thing is I can go and play my 360 right now, but I have to wait another 10 moths or so before I can get a PS3 - and I do want one.

Sorry, but the cell processor isnt even out on the market yett. And somewhat i dont believe you have friends who program the cell. If you did why the hell would you be posting ?
I'm pretty sure that only Sony IMB and Toshiba know most about the cell processor. Not the new game developers who used the cell for the very first time. Sony invented it, not the game developers.

And yea an SPE can process AA.

Anibus, the GB\s to the 10mb Ebram is like 200gb\s +
It can easily do the AA.

plus have the dev team usd the cell? the dev kit doesnt have the cell in it or the rsx.

But they all do sort of the same thing, and that is rearrange what you thought was real, and they remind you of the beauty of very simple things. You forget, because youre so busy going from a to z, that theres 24 letters in between... You turn on... tune in... and you drop out...

Nobody has used the cell to run code yet, but the cell can still have code written for it without this, sony has released technical documents and guidelines to develpers, and BTW it is not true that Sony would know more... Only they key designers would know the hardware inside out and they probably would not know the software side of things anythign like as well as these people.
I am on these forums to right the wrongs I see. I do not work in the console market myself, I custom build gaming PCs amongst other things, and am working on an embedded gaming system to run PC games in teh style of the PS3 and Xbox 360 - it probably will be about as poweful...

the exact edram bandwith is 256gb/s. it has the speed but how does it do the aa?

It does the aa because it has been embedded with Antialiasing capabilities - it is an extremely expensive piece of memory but offers free 4x antialiasing, which means that when 8x FSAA is used it can do some serious work to help as well...

No, the graphics core is perfectly capable of AA, it is based on PC graphics technology with some serious twists, both parts of the card were designed by ATi to offer huge capabilities...

ati is not as good as nvidia in alot of ways. it may be capable, but is not implemented.

Current ATi architechtures in both PC and games console are far superior to their xbox counterparts from a technological standpoint, the technology is just better. It is not implemented in any games yet, but can be if a designer chooses to do so...

I would see engeniers who developed the Cell, (IBM TOSHIBA AND SONY) to know more about the cell. Simply because they invented it. Maybe a game developer can use the cell, but I'm pretty posative the Sony knows more.

Lol i dont care anymore. Ps3 is loosing to Pc's now. I cant w8 till i save enough money for a new laptop next year when all the new hardware and software hits such as windows Vista, and the fast XDR ram running at 4.2 GHZ!!

Screw the ps3! 360 and Revolution. I got a pc controller and ill just emulate the games :P

Truthman and Vzero..
Do you think that the P5 or AMD 128bit will come out? What new processors do you think are goign to hit the market.(exept than the CELL.) I think many people know that IMB Sony toshiba are releasing the cell for PC's. I would think amd 128(the 128-bit) and the p5 (predictions say 64bit) What are your oppinions.

I HOPE my laptop i but will come with one of these babies. With 1 gb of XDR ram Blueray reader. This laptop is going to cost a fortune, but i got time to save up :)

I love PC! lol

A laptop i am getting in the year 2007. There is no telling. But it IS going to have windows vista, and it IS going to have the fastest memory\ram on the market. The XDR ram, which runs at 4.2 ghz!
12x faster than DDR2 ram. A bunch of new hardware is dropping by. Be patient and wait untill you see what you rreally want to get. Make sure it isnt the most expencive. Dont be fulled by the price. You can get a cheaper + better laptop. If amd 128bit dual processor hits. I'm goign toget the laptop with this processor.

Make sure the laptop has an EXTREEMLY good motherboard, so it can be upgraded. Look for atleas 4gb of ram capability, or maximum ammount of upgrade.
Stick with ASUS motherboards. I think they are the best.

I mean, upgradable to 4 gb of ram opperating at w.e.(or more) MAKE SURE Its xdr ram. (if you are willing to get this Laptop late 2006 early 2007) Pc's should be upgradable to this ammount. Truthman, nzero guy, your oppinions?

With the money you are willing to pay, get a top of the line pc, (upgradable) I cant emphisize the upgradable tough enough. Make sure that the graphics card is NOT onboard. (intergrated) They take up your ram. If widows vista hits this mid year, the Laptop you are going to get is most likely to have widows vista. UPGRADABLE.

You can also ask truthman, he tends to know alote about this. I to am attending university this year. (well after i finish my school)
I need one to. Most likly, pc's in 2007 late 2006 are going to come equiped with 7800. the 71 is comming april.

Dont always get the most expencive. Yes sony vaio computers are good. BUT EXTREEMLY EXPENCIVE. They come from japan, so its going to be more expencive here. Just like japaneese cars. But yea, some omputers are better than the Vaio. Right now bestbuy is having a compaq amd 64 3500+ with some ati card, 1 gb of ram for JUST 1299$. A bargan, im just not buying it simply because of all the new hardware comming out.

Truthman, give your oppinions to.

I advise you spend no more than £1600 on a PC, anythign more and you are being ripped off. If you are interested I can quote you a price on a PC (I build them...) that will be pretty much the fastest thing available, £1600 is about right...

As for processors in the future:
The new pentium probably wont be called pentium 5. It is based on Pentium 3 technology and has the netburst architechture tacked on.... Take a look at the new macs to get an idea of speed. It will be 64-bit dual core and very fast...
AMD will not release a 128-bit chip for at least seven years (there is no market for a memory register that big in the PC segment) Instead they will continue with dual-core athlon 64's and update to DDR2 - which is the RAM standard for the next year... don't expect XDR soon, and don't expect it to be cheap (were thinking mid 2007 and about £400 a gigabyte).
The Cell chip is currently unsuitable for use in PC's, its only application will be supercomputers. Microsoft will not support it and it cannot run x86. It is a horrible (first of a new generation) paralleled super chip that is badly designed for most uses.... It would not be good at a lot of general purpose work and is not even very well designed for games.... It is theoretically about 1000 times faster than the chip in the PS2 (which is what Kutargi asked for) but only about 5% of that power can even be realised, making it quick, but not even with current fast desktop chips. One major problem that is cited with Cell is the in-order commands the processor does... In-Order sucks for a multitude of reasons in the genral segment of the market... Cell is a nice proof of technology though...

i agree. im building a really nice pc for a little over 1000 usd, and its going to be fast as hell and play most games completely high. im going to overclock my amd 64 san diego core (best core for oc'ing) from 2.2 to atleast 2.8. im getting one of the top of the line heatsinks, and it will stay cool

well im not him, but id recommend the same processor i have and an insane heat sink for oc'ing. id also recommend ddr500, and you can relax the timeings to make it run almost as fast as ddr600. then get an nforce4 ultra mother board or and nforce 4 sli x16 (the best one). i also believe you should get a really good power supply to support the overclocking and the fans youll need, about 550w. i can post you links to some of the products im talking about if you wish.

Anubis cmon man stop being an idiot.
you seriously believe that an SPE can do AA, WHAT!!!! hahahaha lmao.
Bullsh*t anubis,
its IMPOSSIBLE for a processor to do AA.

its a technoligical fact.

the eDRAM for the 360 is USED FOR AA SPECIFICALLY.

thats why it has such an incredible bandwith. thiunk about it, IF that wasnt true then why the FK would that be there.

i know how this sh*t works far better than you do.

ALL processors do (summed up) is fetch, decode and execute instructions.
tell me then, where the FK does AA samples some into this. bloody no where. you seriously need to learn how processors actually work.
This fetch, decode and execute is very basic stuff.
but thats all you need at this stage to know that AA by processors is impossible.
the little memory needed by AA samples is why eDRAM is only 10MB, plus the very very high bandwith that is needed.

DONT come out with some very very stupid things, or invalid sources that try to show that this is wrong.
as ive already said, if it was wrong, WHY did ATI make it then?

its ATI, major card manufacturer and designer company.
you seriously cannot think that you know better than the best at the min can you.
im not biased between Nvidia and ATI, but truthfully the leading company at the minute is ATI, *just*.

the eDRAM enables 4x Adaptive anti-aliasing (nvidia + RSX HAS NOT got adaptive AA), with no performance hit.
and the Xenon's 64 bit memory architecture enables it to have AA along with HDR (high dynamic rtange lighting) properly (aka. fully supported). something which the RSX cant do.

im not bashing the PS3 at all, ALL im saying is what the things actually do. its what they ARE.DO. and theres nothing we can do about it, you just have to accept it.

anubius, you are seriously wrong.

Don't judge the consoles by specs, more isnt always better, espec in PS3 specs.i know the truth, ask if u wanna know.......

Do not compete without valid correct technicality on your terms of the argument.
