What movie are you trying to encode/shrink with DVD Shrink? If it is Madagascar and Sky High, then it's MacroVision's Ripguard Protection. You'll need VobBlanker to "blank" out those junks (bad/protected sectors).
@jmet
Another great guide there, buddy.

To date (knock on wood) I have not found one that AnyDVD would not knock the socks off. Great program from slysoft.

It isn't for me. I just use AnyDVD and DVDShrink. It has worked for anything that I have tried. Keep your AnyDVD current though.

I have the same problem with Madagascar, but the combination of DVD Shrink and AnyDVD doesn't solve it - even though, like other postings here, I have found that it can usually handle anything. AnyDVD is up to date - version 5.6.1.1 - and it even mentions Madagascar specifically. Both programs are running, and the backup gets to about 70%, then I get the same message - DVD Shrink is "out of memory", there is "not enough storage", the process "cannot continue". So I have to shut it down. The only thing I've tried is to change the region in AnyDVD, but that didn't make any difference. Does anyone have any other ideas?

I backed up madagascar by running AnyDVD in the background, DVD Decrypter in file mode, then VOB blanker, then shrink, and finally I burned with Nero. I got the full disc backed up...

Used DVDecrypter and Nero Recode. Extracted menus main movie and penguin cartoon. No other programs used. Wouldn't work on my girlfriends computer and I was using AnyDVD. This sounds like some hardware can handle it and other can't. Specs are in sig.

I had the same problem with Sky High, first time I ever had that problem with DVDShrink. I run AnyDVD in the background and up to this point I've had no problems, the good news is that I got around it with DVDDecryptor. Riped it to the HD and backed up the main movie with DVDShrink

when using AnyDVD with DVD Decrypter set it up this way
to use DVD Decrypter in conjunction with AnyDVD as stated per Olli ->OF SLYSOFT AND CloneDVD
Proceed to the DVD Decrypter Opening Page - Tools - Settings
I/O Tab - Click on "Elby CDIO-Elaborate Bytes"
General Tab - un-check "Check For Structure Protection"

I've found, with my system at least, DVD Shrink and the latest AnyDVD will not work with Macrovision Ripgaurd. I get the infamous out of memory error usually about half way through encoding. What works for me is AnyDVD and VobBlanker before Shrink. I just open up the VIDEO_TS folder on the DVD with VobBlanker and let it do its work. This saves a little time by not having to use DVDDecrypter first. This way you can have the whole DVD or just the movie if that's all you want. I generally copy the whole disc minus foreign languages and director comments during the movie. Generally I'll shrink the extras a little more than the movie to give the movie a little better quality. With deep analysis and one of the AEC settings selected, the quality is pretty good although it takes 1-2 hours. I believe it's worth it though. Although Clone DVD2 is faster, I can see a noticable difference between it and DVD Shrink with all its bells and whistles turned on. DVD Shrink is also a lot faster with no enhancements used.
Dave
