Will DVD Shrink work on a DVD copy on a hard drive?

Until until now I have been backing up my DVDs as VCDs, purely because my copy of Nero won't recognise my DVD burner. (it came wth different s/w which doesn't work with DVD Shrink)

If I make a rip of scratched DVD into the HDD using Smart ripper will DVD Shrink reduce that to fit back onto a DVD?

Perhaps if I map the Folder as a volume?

Anyone know how? I would like a better copy of the DVD with the subtitles.

evan if I could convert it to Mpeg2 instead of Mpeg1 would be an improvment

Just select open files in shrink instead of open disk. Point it to the folder you riped it to and its off.

There is a guide for DVDdecrypter and DVDshrink in my signature. Follow that and you will "get er done"

Sorry, It doesn't work. DVD Shrink cannot find any files to shrink?

All I managed to rip/save from the DVD was the main movie VOBs and associated IFO files. (From that I was able to create an Mpeg1 file - watchable.)
There are no menu items available and DVD Shrink cannot locate any 'titles'. (as referred to in your guides)

What now? Save up and buy another copy of the DVD?

You need to rip the "whole movie" in file mode with DVDdecrypter, not "main movie VOBs and associated IFO files". Once that's done you should be able to open the files with dvdshrink by choosing open files and browsing to the VIDEO_TS folder, highlight the folder and press ok/open. To shrink the whole movie click backup tab, make your selections for each tab of the popup window, when done press ok to start the process. Your output file will either be a VIDEO_TS folder or an ISO image for burning with the software of your choice.

cannot rip the whole disk/movies as the disc is scratched and some files/parts unaccesssible

Try ripping the DVD using DVDFab decrypter(it's a whole movie only ripper), it does a much better job when working with scratched disks. Once DVDFab is done just open the files with DVDshrink by browsing to the VIDEO_TS folder containing the video files.
