I am getting ready to puchase a new PC. What processor would be the fastest processing using DVD Shrink? Especially if I am running 2 or 3 shrink jobs at one time?

a. Pentium® 4 Processor 670 with HT Technology (3.80GHz, 800 FSB)
b. Pentium® D Processor 840 Dual Core Technology (3.20GHz, 800FSB)
c. Pentium® Extreme Edition Dual Core w/ HT Tech (3.20GHz, 800FSB)

here's something out of leftfield, my main burning PC is an AMD Athlon XP2800+ and i often have 3 movies shrinking at once. i know it's not a P4 but it's worth looking at AMD as you usually get more bang for your buck..

Main PC ~ Intel C2Q Q6600 (G0 Stepping)/Gigabyte GA-EP45-DS3/2GB Crucial Ballistix PC2-8500/Zalman CNPS9700/Antec 900/Corsair HX 620W
Network ~ DD-WRT ~ 2node WDS-WPA2/AES ~ Buffalo WHR-G54S. 3node WPA2/AES ~ WRT54GS v6 (inc. WEP BSSID), WRT54G v2, WRT54G2 v1. *** Forum Rules ***

I have a P4 3.4 and it does the job handily. Of course I back it up with lots of ram.

And when you have plenty of RAM the processor don't waste time trying to gether up space to put things.

With the price of RAM today, I don't know why anyone would have less than a gig. Well, I guess that I do, money, if you don't have it you can't get the ram. If that were the case with me though, and I planned on doing backups for some time to come, heck, I'd put two bucks a week away for as long as it took, or tell my wife, were not going out to dinner this week. I'll cook if I have too. LOL

Now that the kids are gone, my wife will not let me in the kitchen, when she's in there..
Because I always open the refrigarator and try to get a little "Whip & Chill" LOL

Thanks for all the AMD suggestions. I am limited to a Dell purchase though as I have a $2700 credit and an employee discount coming.

I have been researching Tom's Hardware and reading the comparison pages.

However, I have not been able to figure out if the single core faster clock speed with HyperThreading will run multiple processes of Shrink at any speed penalty/benifit vs the dual core processor slow clock speed or the dual core processor with HyperThreading and slower clock speed.

I'm very happy with my system too. 2 gigs of ram and a 3.4 processor and no worries.

Keep it cool and away we go.
