what are your pc specs? are you multitasking when burning? what speed does it say you're burning at? are you in DMA mode and not PIO?

most of the dvds i deal with are scratched, so i rip at 4x (about 15 minutes), then it's 15 minutes to encode, and burning at 8x (as i often do with my new Plextor *happy happy joy joy*) takes about 8 minutes. so, 38 minutes from start to finish, give or take.

to check if you have dma turned on, right click on teh My Computer icon and go to Properties. from there, go to the Hardware tab and open the device manager. find your drive's controller, and right click it. select Properties, then the Advanced Settings tab. the Current Transfer Mode should be set to DMA something or other. if it's PIO, change it.

what media are you burning with? please tell me it wasn't made in taiwan. also, post a Nero log; that will help us diagnose the problem. be sure to remove your serial number. it starts with 1A**-blah blah or A1**blah blah..i forget. but it's pretty obvious what it is.

wait, now...is this an external burner hooked up to your laptop, or is this burner contained in the laptop as an internal? if it's external, perhaps you're using a usb 1.1 connection instead of usb 2.0? supply me with the information i ask for, please, lol.

and no, i'm not doing deep analysis with Shrink. never do, unless the encoding is 65% or below, and it's generally never there as i pretty much only do main movies. the extras just annoy me.

its probably in PIO mode you need to get it back to DMA mode as stated, or try a different program (Clonedvd 2 with anydvd) use this guide to help

okay, it's external, so the dma settings will have no bearing whatsoever on the drive. i'm not too familiar with external drives, but i'm sure someone will come up soon that can help.
