Yeah, i remeber that thread also, but couldn't find it. I think the guy also raved about having a strong power supply, so i searched for that phrase and could only find this:
http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/265933 and i don't think that is the same guy. Doc, you may be able to find it by looking at the list of your posts, but you prob have too many to wade thru, unless you remember that thread title when you see it.

it's damn annoying that i (nor anyone else) can't find those ebay/silver-tek links as they'd make great references for future threads, wish i'd have bookmarked them at the time. now i always make sure to keep a record of the controversial/downright stupid threads :O

I thought the one selling fake tys was the owner of shop4tech, but i might have gotten that one mixed up with something else. My brain is fragmented.

i remember that guy that had that thread that he had sworn by silver-tek.
he had bought up like tens of thousands of them discs and he swore they were great..
his replies were nice and long. he had also been around electronics like all his life. that was a very nice thread.. he went through and discussed all the things he had done and all the experience he had. but nothing qualified him as a media specialist. (like docTY for one) ;P
i cant remember what that user name was.. but that was a nice fun one
i'm sure somebody here remembers that one.

Whether the original poster had gotten fake medias from ebay or not really doesn't seem matter since he has stated that those medias worked on his dvd player, while Genuine TY's that he got from newegg aren't working.
dhs58, can you be more specific as to what make/model player you were trying to play your burned dvds? And also are you having problems with just one or many? Anything is possible since burned source may have ripped incorrectly from the beginning to prevent playing.

@dhs58
Since your burner is capable of booktyping - why not booktype those +r's as alkohol suggested. That should decrease the incompatability issue.
