hey all i have tried about 10 dvd players and only 2 of the dvd players played my burnt movies flawlessly. i only use dvd shrink to rip the movies (after shrinking them of course) and anydvd then i use nero to burn them. I booktype my dvd+r's and the media i use is taiyo yuden dvd+r 8x. I burn at 4x and 6x. My question is, if i use dvd decrypter to rip the dvd first then open it up in dvd shrink would that increase compatability??

Well I don't know if you rip it.Burning is where it counts.I been using DVD Decrypter to burn images off and till is day not 1 dvd player/game console that I tried has failed. But that was Ritek G04 and now Im using taiyo yuden and they are pretty good too. Use DVD - instead of +.You will see that most dvd players will play DVD-R.

What happens when you put them in the players that don't work? I don't think DVDD would increase compatibility. Of course I've never tried doing that b/c all my movies have worked. Are you sure you booktyped? Are you finalizing?

If the movie will play in 2 out of 10 of the players, you probably have a good burn that didn't booktype. What brand of burner do you use and is the firmware current? Post a burn log from Nero so we can disect it. And remember a +R booktyped to DVD-ROM will always be more compatable with more players than -R.

Nero logs are located under programfiles\Ahead\Nero\Nerohistory.

If you have a lite-on then teh booktyping is a little tricky. Well, not really. Just different that most.

I'm not sure if this will help you, but the only time I have playback compatibility problems is when I burn too close to the edge of the disk. A simple test...you might try "shinking" just a little smaller and see if that helps.

Ritek have caused alot of problems for a lot of people. So you could try switching. And according to that log you aren't booktyping.

I personally don't think that the Ritek R03 is a problem. I've used them hundreds of times without a single failure. I wonder, are you putting paper labels on the burns? These can cause fits with certain players if they are not centered perfectly as it throws the balance of the DVD off.

Make sure that you booktype to DVD-ROM. Run the finished disc through DVD identifier, available here:

Ritek are/were generally considered good media, but lately I've read several threads of bad batches. I don't want to count them out yet, but lately the quality seems to leave something to be desired.

Not recommended to burn at more than 4X, back off the speed a little.

According to this the booktype should be DVD-ROM, this is what you want.

Looks like a good burn actually, maybe those DVD players are getting old and trying to give up on life. I don't know...may have to call in an expert (creaky where are you???).

Oh, I'm sorry. Apparently you were booktyping. It's just that on my logs booktyping it usually a 3 paragraph line and each of those paragraphs are 3 lined. Thank you LOCOENG for pointing that out.

hiya, this is all i can see from that logfile -
Quote:
Book Type automatically set to: Current recorder setting
- i don't believe the booktype setting is being set. see here for an example - http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread.php?t=112860

Basically you should set the booktype setting to 'automatic'. that's how i've always done it, via Nero Burning Rom - go to 'Recorder/Choose Recorder/Options'

hey guys thanks for all the help. When i put a burnt movie in the dvd identifier it says its a dvd-rom. When i go into Nero-rom and work my way to the recorder then options it shows me that its already set to automatic. When im about to burn with Nero should i check the box that says "verity data on disk after burning"?
Maybe there dvd players are picky about what media i use. If i make a copy of a movie for myself i use taiyo yudens DVD+R 8x but for friends i use those ritek R03.

You can try the verify data option but I doubt if you'll see a difference, especially if you are getting no burn errors. Both of the media brands you are using are good, but as I said earlier, Riteks quality as of late has been questionable, and the TY's are considered to be one of the best.

@GlueEater

Maybe I was wrong...I was just going by how my laptop booktypes al a High Compatablity Mode, since it is unable to booktype on its own.
