@calwaone, hey great to hear back from you, and thanks, yeah I to miss the simplicity of our 321 products, suprizingly till about now it has been working great, until sony did thier new thing, and if more do it than yes 321 of ours will be totally obsolete.
But about 6 months ago I did purchase DVDXPlat. that also comes with what they call Videovault from xcopy software, I'm suprized no body ever talkes about them, you have the option of using two disc's or compress, it works almost exactly like 321 DVDCopy Plat does except with dvdxplat from xcopy you do need a decrypter.
DVD43 did have an update a couple of weeks ago, and it worked on Stealth when it didn't work before, also worked with wedding crashers, BUT, when The Cave came out, forget it, sony has put out more garbage for us to figure out, so I will take your advise, I will give AnyDVD a shot, just hope it works well with my dvdxplat. Have a good one.

@Calwaone, try using CloneDVD2, they give a 21 day free trial version, trust me, this is just as simple as 321 products DVDXCopy. When I first started I used that program until it ran into too many movies that it couldn't back up then I learned about DVDDecrypter and then CloneDVD, started using AnyDVD when Decrypter was shut down... Nothing has escaped the sheep so far..

Okay, was successful on the uncorked version. Here's what I used:

1. DVD Decrypter 3.5.4.0 in file mode
2. Vob Blanker 2.0.1.0 where I got some IFV errors that showed skipped, but once I went to blank all, it came back to show it was going to run that perticular file. Blanked all but the uncorked section.
3. DVD Shrink 3.2.0.15 and reduced the menu compression to 50% and this put the main movie at 87.7% after dropping all but the 5.1 audio.

This is only my 4th backup and the second time using VobBlanker to split the DVD into 2 where I try to get all of the main movie on the first disc with limited compression and all the extras on the second disc.

I wasn't sure about the IFV errors and did some reading, but didn't quite understand it, but gave it a try the way I did and was successful.

The one thing I noticed even though there was minimal compression is, especailly at the beginning when there locked in on their faces, I see the picture fuzz out briefly. Almost like going from grainy to a brief aribrushed look. Of course I'm watching it on an old beginning of time Sony DVD player and a 51" HD RPTV.

Edit: Sorry, forgot I wanted to ask, there was someone who posted the use of DVD Decrypter and DVD Shrink and was able to get 96 compression with menus and no extras by dropping the credits. Is the only way to do this by reauthoring in Shrink, but copy the entire disc rather than just the movie?

I'm telling you all that nothing but shrink is needed, that's how simple it is. If Shrink doesn't work then it's probably a bad press and you can have it exchanged.

@lancer91 or those that are interested:

Here's my method for those that needed: 100% success regardless if it's RipGuard or ARccOS, no AnyDVD, no DVD43 required, no hustle. All tools are FREE, except for Nero.

<><><> Alkohol's VobBlanker method <><><>
<> rip the movie with DVD Decrypter via Mode, File F to hard drive
<> or rip the movie with DVDFAB Decrypter 2.9.6.8 to hard drive
<> VobBlanker version 2.1.0.0 to process and filter out fake/bad cells
<> encode/transcode with Nero Recode 2 or DVD Shrink
<> burn with Nero Burning Rom or Nero Express

That's it... easy as sippin' on a Corona. No sweat, no worry, no glitches, no black screen, no misery, no hustle, no AnyDVD, no DVD43, 100% success.

Honestly, the reason why I prefer VobBlanker 2.1.0.0 is because it's FREE, it can easily "process" and "filter" out any craps (ie fake or bad cells, pgcs, sectors or encrypted cells, etc.), in addition it only take like 5 - 10 minutes of processing times only. Here is a safe download zip file of VobBlanker 2.1.0.0 http://members.aol.com/posunplugged/jsoto/VobBlanker_2100_exe.zip if you haven't done so. By the way, it's only a small 900KB (not even 1MB).

Again, once VobBlanker 2.1.0.0 is done processing, you can absolutely feel 100% sure that the movie is totally free of craps (protections, bad/fake cells or pgcs ie black screen, glitches as found in "Wedding Crashers", "Dark Water" and "The CAVE").

The reason I said that is because sometimes (even if) DVDFAB Decrypter 2.9.6.8 or DVD Decrypter 3.5.4.0 had successfully ripped the movie files into the hard drive, but for some of the newer/latest movies, you will still have some troubles, errors, black screen or glitches after burning the movie. Sometimes, even if you have AnyDVD or DVD43 running in the background, it still gives both DVD Shrink and Nero Recode 2 "errors" while encoding/transcoding and you'll have to abort the transcoding process, sometimes it's too big (not compressable)<=== this is Sony's new ARccOS, sometimes it's "out of memory" or "low on virtual memory" <=== this is MacroVision's RipGuard.

Therefore, in order to successfully and completely get rid of those encrypted craps (bad/fake cells, pgcs, sectors, etc.), you'll need to run through VobBlanker 2.1.0.0, VobBlanker will process and filter out those craps, and create a fresh/new/clean VIDEO_TS file. Then you can encode/transcode the newly created VIDEO_TS file with DVD Shrink or Nero Recode 2 and burn with any of your desire burning engines.

Best of lucks and happy burning!!

alkohol, I've been meaning to ask, do you really type all that out everytime or do you just have it saved on a notepad or something?

@GlueEater

Curious huh...? Yep, I've got it save as notepad, and everytime when I see people's having trouble, I just copy and paste, easy huh, LOL.

By the way, have you tried the new VobBlanker 2.1.0.0 yet?

@ Alkohol Have not tried VobBlanker. I just downloaded it from the link you mentioned. I have not been having any trouble with AnyDVD or Nero Recode, Shrink, or Decrypter. Even DVDXCopy Express continues to work with AnyDVD although I hardly use it. I like to have all the options available. I'll learn VobBlanker, if I have problems I know who knows the answers.

Alkohol,

Since I didn't understand the errors I revieved on VobBlanker, do I just okay them out and would it have made an acurate copy if I opted not to blank out everything?

Thanks for the info.

@lancer91

What errors did you get? I'm guessing it should be OK, if you haven't blank out or done anything to it. Again, if you don't know where/what to "blank", then all you do is set your "input = from your ripped files from DVDFAB Decrypter or DVD Decrypter", and your "output = your new VIDEO_TS folder", and just click PROCESS. You'll be fine with this simple 3 clicks.

Good luck!!

The error is "There are at least one ILV Cell. The VTS containing...marked as skipped...you can process but playback problems can appear..."

Also, something about zero byte menu files and it will delete.

That is fine. I remembered getting a warning/message like that once in a while, but after you've PROCESSED, it should be OK.

I'm not a computer guru, but I'm assuming that the reason it has the error is because either DVDFAB Decrypter or DVD Decrypter had skipped some of those bad/fake cells that was inserted into the VTS.

I have all the files to my harddrive. I used VOB Blanker 2.1.0.0 like alkohol said. I selected "keep all" & then PROCESS. After burning with Nero Recode 2, the movie hangs up at 27:47 in the uncorked version.

Any clue how to fix this?

What programs (ie DVDFAB Decrypter or DVD Decrypter) did you ripped the movie with? If it's DVD Decrypter, then at what Mode (ie Mode, ISO or Mode, File F)?

My advice to you is if you don't know what/where to "blank", then click PROCESS, don't need to select keep all. Just load your input and output, then click on PROCESS and you'll be fine.

Alkohol: I used DVD Decryptor 3.5.4. I used file mode. I have all the files from the DVD currently on my harddrive. Theatrical plays fine but uncorked freezes at 27:47. I have beat every movie to date aexcept this movie & the long version. I believe the interleaved cells have something to do with it. I no longer have the DVD but can start over if need be.

@lancer91

Just out of curiosity, what kind of media did you used to backup? And how fast did you burned?

I'm at work, so I can't do much until I get home later on. I think you'll need to "blank" out a few of PGCs, if I remembered it correctly. I'll take a look at my VobBlanker log and compare to yours.

However, I did made 2 backups though, one is a straight ripped via DVD Decrypter from Mode, File F without processing with VobBlanker 2.1.0.0 (THIS BACKUP FREEZE and JUMP at certain scenes due to fake/bad cells or encrypted cells) and encoded with Nero Recode 2. My other backup copy that I processed with VobBlanker 2.1.0.0 played flawlessly (I've watched/tested both copies and I've come to conclusion that my 2nd backup that I ran through VobBlanker is more superior, it plays beautifully without any glitches, no freeze, no jump).

In the mean time, can you double click on the very first VIDEO_TS.VOB and "BLANK" out all of them. Now just click on PROCESS. Once it's done, try to import into DVD Shrink, shrink it as your usual method, but SAVE it on your hard drive, now once DVD Shrink is done, play the "uncorked" version to see if it will freeze or jump at the "same place" that you had earlier.

Let me know how it goes.

fredbun, as i have been following all the info from other software programs everyone is using out there, ive been trying them all, i took advice from one of the pros and downloaded DVD Shrink and program called imgburn, took me a couple of hours to figure out but works absolutely perfect, easy to use once you get it down, burned backups of two for the money, lord of war, halflight, and the man, worked flawless no problems, software is free, and have no conflicts with other programs, you might give it a shot, my 321 dvdxplatinumpro and a couple of the other programs i did have some trouble with, i just keep experimenting, reading all of these files is like getting a free education, take advantage of there expertise, al calwaone

Hi there calwone, good to hear from you again, I'm glad you found a couple of alternative solutions, thats great, I also would like to look into that imgburn program you spoke about, as long as its a pretty simple program to run yes I am definatly intersted, if you can give me some info about how to obtain it I would really appreciate it, I am all for trying anything that can work as a simple program, I'm sure as you have seen on many of these threads how quite a few people break the codes for movies like the cave etc. some call it a simple solution, to me it's like astronaut stuff and always will be, some people are savvy with things like that and God bless them, but to many old timers like me it's just to much.
I also read that some people had success with the cave using clone and AnyDVD, I havent tried them yet but I will, both I hear are suppose to be pretty easy to use with AnyDVD sitting in the background which is exactly what I need without any complicated configurations, I'm also waiting for the next e.g. a sony movie to come out again and I want to see what will happin and how everybody will deal with it, because if DVD43 which I still use doesnt upgrade there site than I will definatly go to clone and AnyDVD or any other simple solutions that might be out there.
So far there is only two movies I could not defeat, Madigaskar and The Cave, I still use my dvdxcopy from 321, but when I open it I can almost know for sure when there will be a problem when it announces something irregular, thats when I go to my dvdxplat not from 321 but from xcopy software, and it also has what is called videovault also from xcopy they come together when you buy dvdxplat, many times it can solve the problem that both dvdxcopy 321 and dvdxplat xcopy can't, don't know how but it does, videovault works in two ways, you can use its simple solution with one click like I do, or you can use its complicated page, and thats like using that Nero engine with all those different configurations and 5 screen pages of info, I just shake my head when I see those and stay away. I still keep hoping that some non computer experts start a thread just for people like me and always keep us posted with simpler solutions, this AnyDVD that I'm hearing so much about lately I'm hoping that they will keep doing as many people say by always upgrading thier site everytime sony or whomever stick us with more garbage, I've been burning my movies easily without having to be a computer geek since 321 came out which was I beleive about 4 years ago, man did they get a bum rapp, plus without question the best burning software that was out there by far, they were great, plus there tech support was unbelievable, I never spoke to to a tech whose dialect you could'nt understand, and they never downtalked to you, meaning once you told them you were not computer savvy they took there time and explained things anybody could understand, you name me one company today that can do that today and I will s--t, rest in peace 321.
And in closing, yes please do tell me more about your recent success I would gladly like to learn some more, have a good one. FB.

i haven't yet come across problems with DVDFab Decrypter, granted i've only used it on probably a dozen films but i could be just lucky.
The only problem i do have is a minute or two of blank space at the beginning of some films after using DVDFab, same thing used to happen with DVD Decrypter sometimes. No biggie, just tickle the start/end frames in DVD Shrink, job done. in fact that's exactly what i had with Stealth/what i did to resolve Stealth.. nice and simple, zero messing about other than the start/end frames (and that's a piece 'o cake), just how i like it :)

No problem backing up wedding crashers here, just rip with DVD Decrypter and encode with DVD Shrink and burn output files with Nero 6

those of you having problems backing up this movie are doing something wrong. i am newb to backing up movies and it worked fine, not even using the latest version of AnyDVD and dvdshrink2. after reading all the fuss in this thread I decided to double check my copy tonight and just finished watching through the whole thing. flawless.
