for the past year i have been going dvd decrypter (ripping to files) -> vob blanker (getting rid of extras) -> dvd shrink (shrinking to size, making an iso, and getting rid of audio streams) -> dvd decrypter (to burn the .iso)

a few weeks ago i started getting problems where every so often when i was shrinking a dvd with dvd shrink, halfway through the encoding process my whole computer would just shut down all of a sudden. no warnings or error messages, just all power would immediately shut off.

and then it started a few days ago doing that every single time. this is why i am looking for a new program that can shrink the files in my VIDEO_TS folder to an .ISO of the size that will fit on a DVD-R.

if anyone knows what i am doing wrong, or can point me in the direction of another program that would help me do the shrunken ISO step, i would be extremely grateful.

i know this is vague, but i am not much of a computer guy.

-scot.

Sounds like a temperature problem (all the classic symptoms).
Used to work fine, lately shuts down when got hot, now shutting down all the time ;^(
As your CPU cooler and its fan clog-up with crud over time, this is what happens. Also your casefans and powersupply...
Your CPU cooler efficiency is way down, plus the ambient temperature inside the case has increased besides. Videoboard coolers will suffer as well.
Make sure your system is running real cool & stable. Vacuum it out with the little pointy tool (careful!) paying particular attention to the CPU. Don't overclock if it's not stable (or you don't have the power supply for it) and keep memory timings conservative, don't overdrive your memory.
Hopefully you have simply had a cooling failure or something, and will be back Shrinking again soon. We all use the program flawlessly so I don't believe a 'new' program will help or address the root cause of your problem...
Check out inside you box and get back to us,
Regards

Edit:
Re: "but i am not much of a computer guy"
After obvious cleaning, run it with the case opened and ensure all the fans are working. Good luck!

Possibly overheating? Pull the side clean your fan blades vacuum what you can see. Leave the side off power up and try again. Mine started doing this and I cleaned it up and started working fine. Also don't multitask!!

Seems more like overclocking the CPU. Happen to me once when I overclocked my P4 3.0e to 3.3 & HT enabled. When my system crashed & auto restart during a video rendering, I start to monitor the temperature of the MB & CPU. Midway through the rendering, the CPU temperature hit 80C even when the CPU fan was spinning at max & I have two more powerful casing fans also at max. I opened up the casing & direct a big fan at the CPU until the temperature drop down to 60C.
Overclocking cuts down the rendering time but the heat is terrible & may damage the system.

I agree, sounds like a overheat issue. Unit needs to be cleaned to get the crud out. You would be suprized how much dust and lint, and if you have pets, pet hair will collect inside your computer.

Blow it out.
