ThiA recent change which helps elby CloneDVD to work better seems to annoy Shrink & Recode. We will work out a solution so Shrink / Recode will continue to work.
Until we release an updated version there is a simple workaround: You can disable the option to remove "Copy protection based on unreadable sectors". Then you can copy the disc with Shrink/Recode and AnyDVD enabled.

I got the Navigation error on Monster in Law using AnyDVD and DVD Shrink. I then closed DVD Shrink and reopened it, thinking maybe I hadn't given AnyDVD to work it's magic, same error. I opened Recode just for shits and giggles...no errors, worked like a dream. Go figure.

I'm still baffled as to why DVD Shrink and AnyDVD wouldn't get it...

I had this idea myself a while ago, but we will not do this unless it is absolutely necessary. The goal is, that AnyDVD runs perfectly with everything with default settings. AnyDVD is designed to be "installed and forgotten" (but must be regulary updated, hence the automatic update check).
It is designed to be always enabled and it should always run as soon as your computer starts.
I have made a beta version which should work fine with DVDShrink and Recode, while keeping the added value for elby CloneDVD2:

http://sandbox.slysoft.com/SetupAnyDVD5811.exe

Warning, this is beta software. I haven't tested it much (we will do this the next days), but I believe it will not do any harm. Everybody is invited to try it out (not only Shrink & Recode users).

Here is the changelog:

5.8.1.1, 2006 01 07

- New: Improved the function to remove unreferenced VOBUs. This fixes
problems (Error message "invalid navigation structure") with DVDShrink
and Nero Recode with some titles.
- Fix: Alpha DVD copyprotection detection. Some titles (e.g., "The Fifth
Element - Remastered Deluxe Edition" R2, German) were incorrectly
identified as protected with the "Settec AlphaDVD" copy protection.
- Updated languages

I will download the beta--after it is proven OK.

Till then a rollback to ver. 5.6.3.1 works just fine. No more navigation errors and it works with shrink just fine.

Keep us posted of any probs with the beta version. To date I have not had any issues with anything that I have backed up with the previous version.

Cheers.

2OldGeek-Your backup of brothersgrimm was it a full backup or movie only? I was interested to see if shrink is still getting the out of memory errors on ripguard moives doing the full backup.

2OldGeek-Did you have any other ripguard moives to backup. This would be a really cool deal if slysoft has figured away to backup a ripguard movie using shrink and not get any error with low virtual memory. The issue would occur with a full backup using shrink or recode on all ripguard movies. People were having to use vobblanker to blank out the bad information.

invalid dvd navigation structure

I am tryin to rip and burn 6 days. 7 nights. First, I tried with dvdfab (anydvd-new version running in the background), and tried to open with DVD Shrink and got "dvd shrink encountered an error and cannot contiue. Invalide data in file C;\documents and settings\owner\my documents\dvd\videot_s\vts_01_4.VOB. Overlapped I/O operation is in progress. When I then tried it with just plain DVD Shrink to analyze and encode I got an error invalid dvd navigation structure. What do these errors mean and how can I fix them?

Cheers

There is a way? If you can conceive that this OldGeek is not crazy as a loon and bear with me. Try it, it works?..

Use DVDDecrypter and DVDShrink ONLY. Turn off AnyDVD, DVD43 or antthing else that runs in the background as a decrypter?

You must be using NTSF files, FAT or FAT32 will not work because you will be handling a file that?s over 8 GB?..

Open Decrypter and go to Mode -> ISO -> select, Read R

Browse a folder for the file to be ripped to.. example: Movie_Ripped

Click the big button and let it rip? Oh, make sure the movie is in your drive.. He He

When Decrypter has ripped the movie, your folder will contain 2 files, one has .ISO extention and the other has .MDS , this one contains the layer break info to make a DL disc.

Now open DVDShrink and go to File -> Open Disc Image and browse to the .ISO file.

Now you have it in Shrink and you can do a Full movie or re-author a movie only or whatever you wish..

When you?re done and ready to burn you can set Shrink to burn with Nero or make a ISO and burn with DVDDecrypter..
Just make sure to get the shrunk file into a VIDEO_TS folder..

Try this and let me know if it works for you or if you have any questions or problems fire ?em back..

@2oldgeek

I updated AnyDVD yesterday afternoon and last night retried to burn Six Days, Seven Nights....and it worked. Trust me I don't think anyone who offers help is a loon. I wrote down how to do it if I happen to encounter the problem again, and believe me if I do you're the first one I am gonna run too....Thanks for your advice and help means alot. When the other members mention dvdd are they referring to dvddecrypter?

Cheers

@blimpe2,

Yes I have tried the latest AnyDVD 5.8.1.1 on a couple of RipGuards and it seems to work OK. I haven?t had any trouble making backups of the ripguard because I backup the Movie Only. Hopefully they have AnyDVD worked out where it will do a Full Movie with the extras without messing up?.

Check out my previous post about backing up RipGuard, etc. with DVDD & DVDS only.
It works, it?s a little slower than using AnyDVD, BUT IT?S FREE? LOL

deedums35, yes DVDD is DVDDecrypter and Not DVDFabDecrypter.. I just don?t have much faith in DVDFab, myself, but that?s me..
I am an old time programmer and started working with IBM 65?s in 1965.. Damn, has it been that long???..
Since I don?t program anymore I like to un-ravel other programmers? work and admire what they have done.. Right now Lightning UK the author of DVDDecrypter is my Hero because he had some stuff in that program that is ahead of it?s time.. Like being able to decrypt copy protection that hadn?t even came out when he wrote the proggy. He He I Love it..
Even though I don?t think he meant it to be a code breaker, what I believe is that he meant for it to be able to rip discs that were scratched, degraded or otherwise very hard to copy..

Viva Lightning UK?
Long Live DVDDecrypter it?s not up dated anymore, but it?s NOT DEAD!

I agree with you 2OldGeek, DVDdecrypter is a fantastic ripper. I have made sure that I have backed up copies of the .exe so that if it ever disappears from the net I will always have a copy of it if I need it.

Cheers.

Yeah ruger, I got so many copies that I could never loose it??.. He He

I been busy trying out Decrypter in the ISO mode to read and correct all this new RipGuard, missing/bad sectors, etc. and low and behold IT WORKS?

I have Ripped Bros Grimm, Sky High, 40Yr old Virgin, Bewitched and Lords of Dogtown with no problems what-so-ever using DVDD and Shrink and nothing else.

I also ripped Wedding Crashers because I saw a long thread where ppl were having problems. No Problem??..

@2oldGeek

So basically you ISO read to the video_TS folder, then reauthor in shrink, encode, and write ISO in decrypter?
