don't use AnyDVD

¨ open up DVD Decrypter
<> put your original dvd movie inside burner or dvd-rom
<> Mode, ISO, Read be sure to do this
<> set your source <===== where the original is located
<> set your destination <===== to your hard drive
<> click on Decrypt (now sit tight and wait until it's completed)

Once it's successfully ripped the ISO into your hard drive

¨ open DVDShrink
¨ <> goto File -> Open Disc Image and open the ISO file just ripped
¨ <> do the Shrink thing either Full Disc or Re-author, your choice
¨ <> hit Backup and tell Shrink to Burn with Decripter
¨ <> place a blank disc in your drive, set the burn speed and hit the burn button
¨
¨ When finished burning, remove the newly copied disc and you got it!

The advice/steps you gave to slather is what you and 9mm were discussing about ISO? I am still so new to this would you mind breaking it down just a little more for a greenhorn? It would greatly be appreciated.

This thread is turning out to be very interesting. Keep up the good work. I will be trying this method this weekend, if not sooner.

2oldGeek, have you tried watching the results from start to finish yet?

Cheers.

Hey ruger, watching what results?

@deedums,

You must remember that AnyDVD is a decrypter that corrects the files of a protected disc ?on the fly?
DVDDecrypter is a decrypter that takes it?s place and when placed in the ISO Read Mode just reads the whole disc as one large file and does not examine each individual file for protection.

That way after the protected disc has been read into the computer it will have no protection and Shrink will not lock up out of memory and the whole thing can be written back to the disk without any protection or problems..

If you don?t believe it works, just try it, but be sure to follow the instructs and use DVDD in the ISO Mode And NOT the File Mode?

Bows n says thank you sir....I have but one small question. When I rip a movie in the ISO mode and it saves to my hard drive, how do I burn it when it finishes it run through? Do I open Nero like I would to burn a cd and click and drag the ISO folder to the burn quarter or does it not take away the step where it shows the top as being the burn folder and the bottom being the C:\drive?

@deedums

It really depends on what you want from it..

If you want to burn a DL disc then you can do it with DVDDecrypter.
Open DVDD and go to Mode -> ISO -> select: Write W
Under Source select a file, browse the Folder you just saved into, there will be 2 files one has a .ISO extension and the other has .MDS
Select the .MDS file
Under Destination, choose the drive you wish to use and insert a blank DL disc in it
Under Settings choose the write speed, 2.4 for DL discs
Click the big Burn button, step away and let it do it?s thing?.

ELSE: if you want to Shrink it to fit a DVD-5
¨ open DVDShrink
¨ <> go to File -> Open Disc Image and open the ISO file just ripped
¨ <> do the Shrink thing either Full Disc or Re-author, your choice
¨ <> hit Backup and tell Shrink to Burn with Decrypter
¨ <> place a blank disc in your drive, set the burn speed and hit the burn button
¨
¨ When finished burning, remove the newly copied disc and you got it!

OK, this works great. Must have been half asleep when i tried it the first time. My shrink had an analyze file already in storage from the first failed run through, after deleting this file all went according to the script.

Thanks for helping me backup (easily) a movie that has been giving me alot of trouble lately.

By the way, I watched it all the way through, and backup is just fine.

Great, I am so glad you got it..
I think that DVDD & DVDS are the best dam programs ever written for backing up DVD?s, they are FREE and will do things that the newer, costly, programs will not.
They both have routines and algorithms that have not been discovered, as of yet.. Only the surface has been scratched and they will live for a long time. Just make sure you have a lot of backups of these two programs in case they get so you can?t find them anymore.

Happy Burning to all my friends here on AD?

No, I haven?t got the Cave yet, will proly get it in a couple of days?
I can almost guarantee this method will work.. I said ALMOST because there are unforeseen factors that crop up from time to time.. Like they say S?T Happens

Does the decrypter use Nero to burn with? And to make sure I am understanding you correctly DL-double layer, DVD5-regular blank discs? What speed do you recommend to burn at?

Correct, DL or DVD9= double layer and DVD5= single layer.
DVDDecrypter does not use Nero, it has it?s own burn engine.
DVDShrink has no burn engine, but can be set to burn using either Nero or Decrypter.
For DL?s the only thing you need is DVDDecrypter. Both Read and Write..
To fit a Movie, which is on a DL (DVD9), to a DVD5 you will need to reduce the size using DVDShrink..

I always recommend using Verbatim Discs, both DVD5 and DVD9. Others here like other good DVD5?s like TY, Maxell, Sony, etc. But most agree that the best DL is Verbatim DVD+R DL.
I like the +R format better than the dash R because the +R can be booktyped to DVD-ROM and it becomes more compatable with most players.

Burning speed is a matter of Just how good the Media is?
I always recommend that you never exceed ½ the rated speed of the disc in question and if you get errors, drop it lower.
That is, for 16x good discs no more than 8x, for 8x no more than 4x and so on..
I have seen some poor quality 8x discs that wouldn?t burn at 2x LOL

Hope that answers some of it. It will take a while to fill in the gaps. HeHe

There is a lot of knowledge here on AD and a very good search engine at the top of the page. I use it all the time?

Have a Happy..

I plan on getting Skeleton Key tonight to give this process a go. I also have The whole 9 yards, but trying something different there.

Will report back results. Very interested in this process.

By "results" I meant had you watched one of this style burns, but see that you have. (Should have looked the thread over closer.)

I just want to make sure that I do one of the harder movies with this process and I have heard that Skeleton Key was one of the difficult ones.

Cheers.

@ruger,

When you do one, I know you know how to use DVDD & DVDS but just remember that the only difference is that you Must use the ISO Read R mode in DVDD and File -> Open Disk Image in Shrink.. Other than that, everything else is the same.

Burn with Nero or Decrypter or ? as you please.
Yes, I have done most of the Baddies with this method and it does work for me. I am not going to give a 100% guarantee cause Sh-T Happens! LOL

Try it and be sure to let me know the outcome so I will put together a little step by step that a newbie can understand?

Have a Happy Burn!

Reporting fantastic results. Did Serenity with this method, no AnyDVD, just DVDdecrypter in ISO Read and then Shrink and imgburn to burn, and the results are perfect. No problems at all.

Did Skeleton Key with AnyDVD, DVDdecrypter in File Mode, Shrink, and imgburn, perfect results.

Did The Whole 9 Yards with AnyDVD and Clone DVD.

All perfect backups.

This is wonderful.

Cheers.

Ok I did the recommended method....however, I think I may have boo-booed. Does the dvd still go thru the deep analysis and encoding stages? My shrink didn't have an option to burn with decrypter...help, help.....

@9mmruger1.

Great, now you see that the 1 to 1, ISO copy does remove all copy protection..

I use this method to copy Full Movies to a DVD5 because sometimes DVDFab or AnyDVD won?t let Shrink work right giving Bad Structure errors, etc. when doing the whole movie with extras, so forth.

DVDFab has not been too reliable and AnyDVD cost $$..

Also, Decrypter can be set up to handle bad copies better than Fab, IMO.
And when the ripguard is changed at little, before AnyDVD is upgraded to handle it, this will work.
Also no need to use all those programs like VobBlanker, IsoEdit, etc. etc.
I always use the KISS theory, Keep It Simple Stupid, cause I are! LOL

@deedums,

Oh yes, you can burn with Decrypter from Shrink?
Deep Analysis? I thought you were doing DL discs?
Most of the Guides that I have looked are a little out of date but most will send you in the right direction. LOL
I?ll get with you. I saw that you had Pmed me but haven?t had a chance yet..
Just let me know what kind of backup you want to make, Full Disc copy to DL, Full Movie shrunk to DVD5, Movie Only to DVD5, Etc. Anyway, I?ll bet you a dollar to a donut hole that we can do it?.LOL

Hi evryone,
I was just reading through, just to see what's new...
I don't have many,many burns under my belt like many of the experienced members here on AD, I only started a while ago. But befor I started, I tried to do some homework. I came across ScubaPete's guide( Thanx Scuba!) on how to use DVDD and DVD Shrink

http://www.dvdplusvideo.com/petesguide13.html
If you take a minute and read, you can see that he advises ripping in ISO mode for better results. I followed his guide to backup all my movies, in ISO mode, just because he said you definetely get better quality. So far, I NEVER came across a movie that didn't work for me using just the free programs D&S. maybe I was just lucky, but I concur with 2oldgeek: Lightning UK is The King! and DVD Decrypter is one of the best rippers, and is FREE!
Good job 2oldgeek!!

@cyprusrom,

Way to go, I think Scuba Pete?s Guides are Great!
Except for the fact that it?s a lot of reading and not many pretty pictures. LOL
Most ppl that I have ran into just simply will not read?.
That is why my Sig bears a famous quote from Will Rogers?.

The ISO Mode in DVDDecrypter has been overlooked for a long time now because most ppl were looking for the easy way out and were afraid to try something that they didn?t understand?.

Back in the early days of computers, programmers were trying to stop the copying of their programs from a 5 ¼ ? floppy disc by using the same techniques that are being used today on DVD?s.. Back then I just did a bit for bit copy and Overcame the protection.. It Still Works Today? What goes around comes around. There is nothing New under the sun?

Have a Happy Burn!

:)! I like your quote!
- Yes, ScubaPete's guides are great! Not so many pretty pictures(like,let's say...Alkohol's guides!:)).Still, if one take the time to read, piece of cacke to follow! I agree, there is a lot of info outhere, and sometimes can be overwhelming! Just give me the answer! I wanna know, and I want it now!
- Myself,I really don't know much about how the whole process goes, don't know how it was done in the past,or how it is done now, but I know that there are plenty of people that are willing to share their knowledge.And fortunately,I can read!!! Anyone that is willing to "read" or "observe", eventually will succeed. The other ones, keep on "peeing on the fence"!
Cheers!
