I have 3 computers which cannot shrink the DVD which I want, my friend has the same version of DVDshrink 3.2.015 but he can shrink down to the level which are burnable.
Xbox 1.6 Executor3 EvoX 120gb
Custom white case, controler port and power button blue LED mods.
AMD Athlon XP 2.2gig, 120gb 7200rpm HD
512mb PC2700 ram, Delta Audiophile soundcard.
27" HD LCD, 450w dolby digital system.
in the compression window are they all set to automatic on all computers.
i alwats though that on auto, shrink would make a movie no matter how big it was fit (and give you a green bar) and that it would just produce a worse picture quality the bigger movie you compress.
i have only ever got a red bt on the bar when you try to use custom compression and make one bit bigger without decreasing another in it's place (where auto mode does this for you)

I have been using DVD Shrink 3.2.015 for the longest - backing up my movies without incident...but, of late when I attempt to shrink my own, i.e. (purchased) movies. I re-author to grab main movie only which it shows movie to be 1 hr or so long...but when I drag it to the left pane for placement, the movie only shows being about 15-20 min's. long and registers only 600+ MB - far less than the 4.35Gb it should be. Any advice is appreciated.
floydtran: Double check the settings:EDIT-preferences/ and see if there are any differences between all those pcs.Example: stream selections. Maybe yours are listing all audio streams, where as his is listing AC3 english only?
Also check the backup target size. Most leave them set as DVD-5. I keep mine at custom-4360 mbs. That'll cause an increase in compression if yours is in custom and his is in DVD-5.
Red bar is no good,try:
Get rid of all unnecessary sound streams, sub pictures. His may be set up to do this in his settings and your's isn't,therefore giving a different compression. I keep AC3 5.1 ch English stream only, and untick everything else.
Another option, click re-author,drag main movie file: Click main movie 1,drag to left side of screen. Then click the icon of 2 arrows-1 pointing right-other pointing left. You can use the view screen to select start and stop points, further reducing compression. Also click the compression tab and untick all unnecessary streams/sub pictures.
ctj1: I've never seen any issues like that. Try uninstalling DVD Shrink and reloading it. It could also be a software conflict. I know Nero and roxio can conflict. AnyDVD and DVD43 can also conflict.
I reinstalled DVD Shrink only to encounter same error message:
DVD shrink encountered an error and canno continue
Invalid DVd navigation Structure.
When I open up the movie and click re-author...it's only showing the main movie 1:37:16 to be 659 MB (The Cave, and the extra's at x amount of times, etc.). Although when I pull it to the left pane it shows to be 15 min. long which really is only a chapter of the movie.
MOVIE:
Title 1 1:37:18 659MB
Title 2 18:41 703MB
Title 3 10:31 387MB
Dvd shrink can't handle The Cave alone. She needs a little help, via AnyDVD by slysoft. Since DVD Shrink hasn't been updated in a year and a half,AnyDVD usually helps take off the newer sony arrcos encryption. You can get a free 21 day trial here:
Anydvd is a background ripper and is updated very regularly.I just updated it this morning-3rd update in about a week!
Very easy program,no extra step. When AnyDVD is activated,a small red fox head icon will be in your lower right corner utility tray. Then she's running. You then do your normal backup process. This program works for just about any ripping software.
If you have DVD43,it can clash with AnyDVD so you may want to uninstall DVD43 if you go that route.
When it comes to the newer encryptions,DVD Shrink does some wierd stuff like: Crc error/invallid navigation error/or it won't even recognize that the original is in the drive. By activating AnyDVD,shrink will usually rip them apart. Very nice program for dvd and cd encryptions. Also makes your drive region free~
I leave mine turned off, then when DVD Shrink runs into problems-I then enable it. The cave/madagascar/and four brothers being the latest releases that DVD Shrink couldn't handle by itself.
I had the same problem with the cave as discribed. Answer is simple.
Don't believe your eyes. Pay no mind to what shrink says and go ahead and burn it.That's what I did and it worked fine. I have a theory that there must be something sony has added to confuse shrink. So just forget what you see and push Back-up.
