Hi,

I compared the encoding times with a few of my friends. They are averaging about 40-45 minutes for the whole process and I average the double and sometimes almost 2 hours !

Today, I just bought a some memory, my CPU now runs with 768 MB of RAM and I also bought a new hard drive of 160 GO. I have a Pentium 4 with a processor of 2.0 GHZ.

Can someone help me with this ? I just find it to slow and I don't want to spend too much money on this !

Thx !

Hey mart96,

There are many factors that can cause a slow rip, here are some suggestions:

1) Make sure your drive/s is not set for PIO mode, if it is set it for DMA is available (burner and hard drive)

2) If you got other applications running in the backround, try shutting them down during the DVD rip. Some applications are set to run upon startup, run msconfig and click on the startup tab to see what they are and prevent them from running only if they are not needed (just uncheck them and reboot)

3) Make sure your drives firmware is upto date

4) Make sure the dvd is clean and not badly scratched

5) Make sure dvdshrink is not setup to run in low priority mode in preferences section

I this thread they discuss shrink times based upon settings in shrink.
http://forum.digital-digest.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=47035
If you have quality enhancing settings checked, that takes more time. In some cases it is doing a double pass. I let these things happen, if i have greater than 60% compression in shrink. Some say Nero Recode 2 is faster. I use CloneDVD2 and average 45 minutes or less to back up a movie. Now if you decrypt to HD and shrink/burn from there, running from the HD, encoding goes much faster, than just ripping from the disc.
