hi guys can someone please explain me about the dvd shrink settings, im a little confused about them, 1st of all i want to reduce the time it takes to backup my dvd's but i dont wanna lose quality on my backups, i was watching some posts on this forum of people who recommend, to check the overlapped box on dvd shrink settings, and also to uncheck the quality settings......basically can you guys please explain me about whats the difference if i do check or uncheck those settings and what will be the result of my backups with this settings.......thanks for your help....
slamcyl,
Welcome to the forum. When I use Shrink I use the default version and the I/O box is unchecked. The Quality settings are another matter. If compression is 15-20% then Deep Analysis is used. Compression over that and I use the AEC settings. Using these quality compression features does add time to the process. Those quality settings also make it possible for Shrink to compress the movie to disk properly.
Go to the thread below and look for "bigorange's" thread
thanks for that man but what about overlapped can you explain me a little bit of that whats the diference if i use that or not and do i need a good computer to use it......what kind of spec i need on my computer?
A little bit off, but what's your comment/thought on "Maximum Sharpness" and "Maximum Smoothness", plus "Deep Analysis"? Which one produces higher quality in results?
I hardly use DVD Shrink now-a-days, but once in a while and when I do, I set it to "Maximum Sharpness" + "Deep Analysis".

If you have an older computer that uses FAT 32 files this will overlap the files by using 2 buffers.
On a newer NTFS file system that can handle files over 4GB in size it won?t make any difference..
Check it, or not, your option,
If you check it and can see a difference then, Do it!

Alkohol,
The difference is in the amount of compression needed. I know that you know there are 3 type of frames in a movie. ( B-P-I) In max Sharpness Shrink first goes to the B frame and starts the compression there and if that is not enough then it goes to the P and then lastly to the I frame if needed. Max Smoothness uses all three in equal amounts of compression. What that does is soften up the image a little so you hopefully do not see the pixelization. If using Shrink for fast action I use The default setting and if not much compression needed 10% then I'll only use Deep analysis. It is my understanding that if it is action oriented then to use the Sharper settings in AEC
Since Jdobbs came out w/ DVD-RB I am using that more and more w/ excellent results if I do the movie on a DVD-5. Since the price of D/L came down I have started doing the whole disk to D/L if the movie is worth it. That is the quickest way for me know as it is 12-15 minutes to read the disk and 10-12 minutes to write the .iso image
