if you are using shrink with anydvd in the background and getting any errors only when doing newer dvds with the latest encryptions.then use clonedvd2 with anydvd.have succesfully backed up everything on this forum that shrink is having problems with.

the latest versions of AnyDVD have fixed many problems, besides if anything shrink should work better because it has its own built in decrypter...
but what you said in some ways is very correct, CloneDVD is a fantastic piece of software and should be used by every member

i agree the updates for AnyDVD helps with most dvds and shrink but not all.there are still ones that shrink will not do to date without using some other program or going in and altering in some way anything from vobblanker or no menus or trailers.wich aint nothing to most people but me the simpler the better and i want it all or it is not worth doing.and the built in decrypter in shrink sucks why do you think you have to use AnyDVD the only on the fly decrypter that works all the time.i have the latest update of AnyDVD 5.8.1.1 with shrink will not do( two for the money)a new release it spits out the usual invalid structure error wich has been pretty normal with dreamwerks, sony and 1 other maker i cant remember since the latest new encryption phases the makers invested in.but clonedvd2 spits them out flawlessly how shrink used to work.i have never used anything besides shrink tell the new encryptions were out and i did not want to make something that has been quick and easy hard and slow.CloneDVD is the the only other program out there that resolves that.if shrink was updated it might be different

the maker of shrink has moved to Nero recode, which is why a lot of users now use CloneDVD

I haven't purchased CloneDVD yet. But I am very tempted.
Since AnyDVD ver 5.8.2.1 came out I have had no problem using shrink to copy any of the titles that have been giving trouble to so many on the forum lately.
So long as AnyDVD will support it, I will stick with my shrink LOL.

I also use AnyDVD. But had a problem with The Cave until I ran it through VobBlanker, then all was good.

the reason people are still using shrink even though, they sometimes have to use a third and fourth program, is because of its quality. the only transcoder that is as good as and faster is, nero recode2.
i have clonedvd2, is a good program but, i'd not compare its quality output with that of shrink. it is not that shrink is that much better, is that shrink is better.
Nero Recode2 or Shrink using deep analysis and AEC/ fabdecrypter or anydvd running in the background/ IMGBurn to burn/main movie only mode= perfect.

fair enough, everyone is entitled to their opinion.
i happen to think both are just as good as eachother and even better than recode, which is why i use all three ;)

@phantom69. i'll have to disagree with you there, you just spoke about my favorite software, recode2, it is as good as shrink, in terms of quality but, much faster. i have these three programs, i use them all but, out of the three, i prefer recode2.
Decrypter to HD(sometimes with anydvd's help)/recode2 to compress and CopyToDVD to burn is my way to go lately.
Nero Recode2 or Shrink using deep analysis and AEC/ fabdecrypter or anydvd running in the background/ IMGBurn to burn/main movie only mode= perfect.

why not just burn with Nero...
@ i respect your opinion which is hwy i am not arguing with you about it but like i said everyone is entitled to their own opinion.

I have all these programs and like them all, they each have good features to them. Recode2 is fast produces good quality and burning is automatic. Clone has excellent reauthoring capabilities you can split and keep menus which is a plus for TV episode disks, at least for me, there is no quality loss. CopytoDVD will burn files great, even troublesome ones and does a good job on dual layer, which I found troublesome on Nero. I like Nero for its versatility, but only Nero 6, Nero 7 still has bugs. Shrink was good and still serves a purpose, but it also is a resource hog. I just rip them to my HDD and then decide what to use, it is just great that there is a choice of all these super programs, both free and pay.

LOL, He He, Ho Ho
If you ask 100 ppl ?What?s the best Software to backup a DVD??, you will get about as many answers, if not more?..
In my Old Age, some things are just not worth waiting in line for.. Therefore, I always apply the K.I.S.S Theory (Keep It Simple Stupid) and it works for me..
I refuse to burden myself with a bunch of programs to do a simple task if only 1 or 2 will do the job..
I mainly use AnyDVD running in the background to take care of the New protections and then:
Place my Movie in the DVD Rom reader Drive,
Place a nice new Verbatim 16x in my Burner drive,
Open Shrink and set it for Re-author Movie Only and tell it to Burn using Nero.
Push the Burn Button and walk away??..
DVDShrink will Rip it, Compress it and Burn it automatically. No intervention needed from me while I?m playing with the Grandkids?.
About 30 minutes or so later, I return to find a Perfect Backup sitting in my now open Burner tray?? No Fuss, No Muss, No Problems???
Being Young is Beautiful, but being Old is Comfortable???LOL

There are three kinds of men: The ones that learn by reading; The few who learn by observation;
The rest of them have to pee on the electric fence and find out for themselves...

just a few points.
1)i great a folder to burn to blank WR disc first to make sure everything is fine, which is why i don't burn with recode2 burning room.
2)copytodvd is probably the best burning application out there(again just my opinion). never had a error with it.
3)clonedvd2 is a good program but, i'd have to go with either recode2 or shrink when the compression is too much. just me again.
Nero Recode2 or Shrink using deep analysis and AEC/ fabdecrypter or anydvd running in the background/ IMGBurn to burn/main movie only mode= perfect.
