Recode takes 10 minutes to encode a dvd

While Dvd Shrink takes 20 minutes for the same dvd.

Why is shrink so slow?

in terms of quality both softwares are the same, recode2 is much faster so, i use recode2 more than shrink but, i can't stop using shrink, i love the little program.

Nero Recode2 or Shrink using deep analysis and AEC/ fabdecrypter or anydvd running in the background/ IMGBurn to burn/main movie only mode= perfect.

Yes, Nero Recode 2 is 2 times faster than DVD Shrink. That is exactly what I've been saying the whole time. Eventhough both DVD Shrink and Nero Recode 2 are from the same creator/author, I prefer Nero Recode 2 more because it's more advanced and faster. However, DVD Shrink is still very useful because DVD Shrink can easily handle the ISO ripped from DVD Decrypter.

I can transcode/encode "Advanced Analysis" + "High Quality Mode" using Nero Recode 2 in roughly 25 - 35 minutes.
I can transcode/encode "Deep Analysis" + "Shrink's enhance quality AEC" using DVD Shrink roughly in 60 - 70 minutes.

In contrast, both are great tools, but I've been using Nero Recode 2 more and more since I discovered Nero Recode 2 from Nero 6 Ultra. However, the choice is yours.

yes, recode2 all the way for me also, its quality is great, is faster than shrink and flashier and, very important point, it has its own burning application.

But recode only works when the DVD isn't copy protected, right?

@Derek
Correct.

Recode can be used in conjuction with AnyDVD or DVD43 also.

Recode is my prefered choice everytime.

I've used both programs in the pas & I'll say I have to stick with shrink because the quality of the final video is better (with deep analysis & error compensation on & set to maximum) It may take longer but for that reason

@daggy-G. recode2 also has AEC and deep analysis, the quality is as good or better than that of shrink.

If you want to change the AEC in Recode you must go into the regedit to do it. Here is a thread with a comparison of Shrink and Recode.

I still got some love for DVD Shrink, and of course DVD Shrink is still very useful (can still bypass some basic protections), but using Nero Recode 2 with "Advanced Analysis" + "High Quality Mode (slow recording)", I'm more than satisfied with the quality in results.

I own a 55" SONY Widescreen HDTV Hi-Scan 1080 and I could not tell any differences watching the original dvd and my backup from Nero Recode 2 when backing up on top notch media like YUDEN000T02.

Yes, just like the link "arniebear" posted here, and I'll have to say that Nero Recode 2 slightly produced a better quality than DVD Shrink (Deep Analysis + AEC), in my opinion.

Again, both DVD Shrink and Nero Recode 2 are great engines. Some may argue that one is better than the other. I believe that Nero Recode 2 is slightly on top due to my experiences. However, that's only my opinion -- so the choice is yours. Afterall, DVD Shrink is FREE, but Nero Recode 2 usually comes FREE once (or whenever) you buy any new dvd burner as well.

i think that those of us who prefer recode2, will continue to use shrink from time to time; shrink is able to produce ISO file whick is to be burn with IMGBurn, one of the best and easy to use burning applications outthere. but for the majority of my backups, i'll use Recode2 with CopyToDVD to burn.

Most always Nero Recode2 with AnyDVD in the background, but Sony encryption and Nero Recode2, even with AnyDVD in the background can sometimes give me problem, and when that happens I use DVD Decrypter, file mode, then back to Recode2 and select the folder.

Recode2 is DVD Shrink on steroids without the encryption in my book! :)

What's the big deal about encoding speed? As long as it produce good quality backups, who cares how long it takes as long as it's not more than 30 minutes. Normally I just startup DVD Shrink, do analysis & press backup & off I go to do other things. I don't have to watch the whole process because I trust the program to do a good job & it always did.

WOW. i just(1\18) transcoded "two for the money" with nero Recode2, deep analysis and AEC with 61% compression , i took my little computer about 45 minutes but, boy boy, i'm loving this recode2 more and more, the quality is great, taking into account that this is a transcoder. i would have taken shrink about 1.5 hours at least with my PC.
