I read a thread from yesterday about somebody trying to burn Gladiator. Somebody then posted a solution starting that Gladiator is a big movie and movies that size to split the movie in half so it is on 2 discs. I am getting ready to back-up the Lord of the Rings Trilogoy in the next couple of days. Will these movie fit on a standard DVD+R disc or will I have to split each movie onto 2 discs?

I backed up Gladiator to one disk, movie only, and it was fine, however if you want to split to disk then use Shrink with Start and End Frames in reauthor mode. However you will loose your menu doing it this way. You can back it up using CloneDVD, it has a 21 day free trial, and split to two disks and retain a functional menu on both disks.

No I do not want to split the movie. I was just curious if the had to be split. I definately want to avoid spliting any movie. With that being said, in your opion, do you think each movie from the Lord of the Rings Trilogy will fit onto one DVD+R disc respectively?

I did the theater versions all on one disk and they came out very good. My Extended Versions are split to two disks.

Yes, I know for sure they will as I ahve done it with the extended versions of all 3 films which came on two discs each.. film only of course though. Just get the files onto the hard drive from both discs..sperate folders of course. Then use re-author mode.. add main movie titles from both folders into the dvd structure window.. then take out whatever subtitles/sound streams you don't want to get the dvd size down a bit so that there's less compression used. My films work perfectly :)

with big long movies like lord of the rings i either use dvd rebuilder or a 1 to 1 copy on a dual layer disc for the best quality . transcoders seem to compress too much on very large movies and the picture quality suffers because of it .
