I have a question concerning the compression % using the custom tab. When I move it below 4464 I notice it changes the size of the movie but not the length. This is not removing anything from the movie, just reducing the picture quality, correct? I've seen some talk of the "outer ring" on the dvd where you might get jitters or freezing. What number below 4464 do you reccomend customizing it to? Thanks a lot.

Yep you got it right - more compression can mean a loss of quality. The time is not reduced unless you shortened the frames in re-author.
Reduce the size down to 4360. To improve quality if using heavy compression check deep analysis - this will take longer to process.
Also make sure you are using quality media like Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim.
Keep your burn speed around 4x.

Thanks for the reply. I always burn at 4x or 2.4x, depending on the computer. I have seen all the threads about the Taiyo and Verbatim. I have always used Memorex with over 500 burns and no problems. Is there a possible problem down the road as time goes by with the Memorex when playing them later? Thanks

Oh my!! Memorex - eck!! Yes there can be problems down the road just depends on who made them - they use several manufacturers mainly CMC which is by far the worst. They'll usually degrade effecting the playback and ripping - I had some go bad within a month of purchase and of course they were made by CMC.
I'd id those discs to see who manufactured them.
Here's a prog if you need one to help id them:

I agree with binkie. She is a very wise young lady. If you start using some quality media such as verbatim or taiyo yuden you shouldn't have any problems setting the target size to 4400 but with memorex I wouldn't go over 4350 or maybe even 4300. I use verbatim media and rb/cce (which has default target size of 4430 give or take a couple mb) and never have any problems. Definately ID those memorex's. If they are cmc mags you better start copying them over to better media if you still can. If they are ritek's you will probably be ok.
