I had over 100 DVDs that I copied with DVD Shrink, I had labled them with a Sharpie, and thought how much nicer they would look with a nice label, so I created labels, applied them - now my DVDs will not play in my DVD player. Any idea on how to resolve other than making new copies?

michmo- Firstly we all make mistakes from time to to & I've been there & done that too ! so welcome aboard ! What I would suggest is what other members have tried and posted before ! Take your paper labeled CD/dvd's and soak them in water for a day or two or maybe more ! I would do one at a time . The water should both soften the label and the stickum/adhesive that holds the label to the disc ! after removing the labels simply put the disc in a safe place to dry ! In the event that some glue/label residue remains you might also want to try a product called GOO Gone - it's inexpensive and fairly benign ! Although I would suggest keeping it away from the readable side of the dvd ! This stuff is designed to remove price tags & their gluey residue so it should work though I've never used it for the purpose above ! You might also want to change the water between disc so to avoid contaminating the next disc with the glue & paper gunk from your first disc ! Good luck lil' buddy & hope it works for you ( YOUR SOAKING IN IT !!!!! LOL!!!) happy burning

Since I know the commercial where that line came from I had to laugh!
You can also use WD-40 just on the Top side of the DVD to remove the sticky glue left once the paper is pealed off, but you must rinse extremely fast and well after you do it and can dry the disk with a micro fiber cloth.

a torch works nicely... lol
but seriously......i have never used labels before, but from what i've read and know... dont use chemicals, cuz it will penetrate the dye..
i'd use warm water and soak em.. then peel em off..

OK, just for kicks I've just sprayed WD40 on the top and bottom of a DVD that I will not miss if it gets ruined. I've got to go out but will be back in a few hours and will report the results by a Nero Scan... if there is anything left of it! LOL

funny.... so what happened?
did the dye melt off?
did you have cosmic colors in the bowl?
was the house full of fumes?
were the 'kids' eye balls glazed over? (the dogs)
was the paint peeling from the walls?
did you have that warm fuzzy feeling?
c'mon, i wanna know !

You are a trip bud! I just got back and here are the results...
It didn't effect the disk, either side, one bit!
When I came home it was 5 hours of sitting in the WD40. The sharpie ink was loose on the disk so I rinsed, washed with soap and water, rinsed again, dried with a micro-fiber cloth, placed it in my BenQ1640 and you can see the results above. :)

wow scubabud, now THAT is a true testament to Taiyo Yuden's quality~! LOL
while i believe the "acid" would produce a much different scenario upon re-scanning, but, the WD40, as your test concludes, is quite safe to use on either side of the disc~:)
i don't use labels on ANY of my media either, but, i will def. suggest WD40 in the near future for those that do need a solution to getting off those pesky labels... thanks for the tip~

Hey Doc :)
I just wanted to put my money where my mouth was. I was actually hoping to see that disk all shriveled up. I never did like that movie anyway. <G>

@ scubabud :)
well, depending on how you look at it,...ur results were either a "pleasant surprise" or one that you don't really care for...but, thanks for actually "putting it to the test"...it's an interesting find...i appreciate your efforts... :)
p.s. a lot of people never have ANY evidence to backup their claims on here...especially being in the "media" forums, people just repeat and mimic what others have said in the past or just blurt out crap they they "claimed to have read somewhere"...but can't seem to find the "source" at this point...i'm glad for people like yourself that actually TEST out these things and come to your own conclusion about the after-effects~ :)

Thanks for all the help. I soaked some, got the label off and used the Goo Gone. I only had about a teaspoon of the stuff at home,it worked, but I found the WD40 to work better (even before reading the info provided here. So, now I've created a project for myself - remove all the beautiful labels that have rendered my DVDs as useless. I appreciate the help. This is my 1st time submitting any request here, but I have accessed this forum for mulitiple DVD related needs - you guys ROCK!

I think this thread would make a good episode of Myth Busters!
Michmo: If you want some great looking covers, check out the Epson stylus photojet R- series printers. They print directly onto inkjet printable media. The media costs a little more, but well worth it.We can even tell you where to get the covers and cheap prices on quality ink.

Gear, Saugmon knows me too well and yes I am too anal when it comes to knowledge. :)
That same disk is in a bucket of WD40 and will remain there until Friday to make sure this isn?t a fluke.

I do love TY media and have gotten many 100%-99% scores with the combination of the BenQ1640 and TY+R. Worst case has been 98% Q score so yes, what's not to like! :)

ScubaBud,
My scans are usually 99% with a few 97% scattered in there. When I do get like a 95% I start to freak out :(
I do get the 100% scans but in your case your PIE errors are lower.
Damn, now I have to go and start some more tweaking :)
I do burn some Verbs also and those disks seem to be up there with the TY's. Do you do Verbs, if so how do they look like?
P.S. I dont mean to hijack this thread, but just love that scan.
