A friend of mine has a new hp computer. He is trying to do a backup
copy. He has Anydvd, Shrink, and Imgburn. He does not have Nero.
His computer has Sonic DVD. When he uses shrink to put a file on
his hard drive, he gets a video file and an audio file. How does
he get an ISO file? I always write an ISO file on my computer and
then burn with Imgburn. How does he use Imgburn if there are the
two files instead? If he has to have Nero to use the two programs,
then does he need to uninstall Sonic-will it cause a conflict? Or
is there a way to do the burn using Sonic?

He doesn't have to have nero to burn the image file to disk, and I personally don't like sonic.

When you press the backup tab in shrink, the first screen shown will ask/display a save target as option, click on the arrow to the right to display a drop down menu, choose "ISO Image file", for location select the folder you want the image saved to. When shrink is done, you should have an image file at the location specified, just run Imgburn and us it to burn the image to disk.

If you have DVDdecrypter installed, you can also use it to burn the image to disk, all you have to do is select "ISO Image file and burn with decrypter" instead of the choice shown above. Shrink will automatically run decrypter prompt you for media and burn the image.

Select a write speed of 4X.

good luck.

You are helpful again--really appreciate it.
My friend does not have DVD Decrypter on his computer. Does it
need to be there to use Shrink and and Imgburn? The Shrink guide looks like you should have all three.
When I was working with his computer, I did click on the arrow that said display target. I only got 2 options-direct burn or write to hard disc. The option for an ISO file was not there. (When I set up my computer all three options were available. Everything else looks just like it did on my computer.) Do you know why that option is not there and where I can find it?

In order to automatically burn with DVD Decrypter and to have this option displayed, decrypter must be installed on the PC. Decrypter does not need to be there if using ImgBurn.

get it here....

If you're not seeing these opions when accessing the dropdown menu, I have to ask two things.

1) Are you using the latest version of shrink, it's 3.2.0.15

If not, get it here...
http://www.mrbass.org/dvdshrink/

2) Are you running windows xp with the window blinds feature running/installed, if so, this could cause those options to not be displayed or displayed properly. Disable or uninstall window blinds for xp, reboot and try again.

Got the drop down menu and wrote an ISO file. When I try to burn
with Imgburn, I get the message that this will not fit on one disc.
the file is only 3300KB. I have not had this problem with my
computer at home. Any suggestions?
Thanks again for all the help.

I think the Imgburn may have had a partial burn left from a previous
try that was aborted. It may be trying to add that volume to the
3300 which would put it over size. Is there a way to clear the
program and try a new burn?

Try Tools->Drive->Refresh. Just curious though, did DVD Shrink go through the entire encode with no error messages and you get the error when DVD Shrink opens Imgburn?

The ISO file burned fine with no error messages. Prior to trying
to burn this 3300KB file, I had deleted two files-One was
the previous file that had not been an ISO and one was an ISO
file that had partially burned and had to be aborted. Both
files had the same name, except for the extension. When I cleaned
them from the recycle bin I only found one-and assumed it included
both files (which I am sure it did not). This is what makes me
think the one incompletely burned file is probably still on Imgburn
tasks. If it was added to the 3300KB to be burned on the same
disc that would account for the burn being too large. Next time
I go over, I will run a search for that second file and also try
what you suggested.
I really, really appreciate all the help! Thank you.
