Well Sony keeps switching things up in their copy protection by adding bad cells/junk files etc. DVDFab decrypter does a good job keeping up and will rip them - the problem is encoders like shrink can have a hard time with this 'junk'. Since it's no longer updated AnyDVD and fab decrypter have stepped in w/ fixes to their progs to help shrink. Hopefully the new beta will take care of the problems w/ shrink.
Vobblanker basically processes this junk out and enables shrink to do it's thing. All you have to do is select the video_ts - pick an output folder and click process. You then take the processed files and open them in shrink. Don't know about fixvts - never used it.

With the new version of DVDFab Decrypter version 2.9.7.0 Beta 4 I don't beleive you need to run it through anything else.

I first tried with DVD Shrink and it wouldn't open the DVD. It gave an error of, "Invalid DVD Navigation structure." I then tried with latest Fab (fab did process it) and then latest DVD Shrink and shrink would not open it. Typically when I see many people having problems I have very few simply with DVD43 in the background and Shrink. I'm trying FixVTS right now to see if that will make it work with shrink. I'll report back. I'm mainly posting that I did not have the same success with FAB and Shrink only (with DVD43 in background).

jaypugh,

This statement is from Fengtao, the auther of DVDFab Decrypter, regarding DVD43.

" Even DVD43 UI doesn't run, the DVD43 driver is always running, and it seems that the default settings for the driver will try to decrypt DVDs, so I think the best way is uninstall DVD43, to be better safe than sorry."

It appears that DVD43 is better uninstalled when using DVDFab Decrypter.

Trying to back up Zorro with AnyDVD running I opened NeroRecode. Promptly froze and refuse to open files. So I tried an oldie but goodie for fun. Still with AnyDVD running I opened of all things Roxio EZCD 7 DVD Copier (It transcodes as well like Recode) It opened immediately and I set it to burn just the movie and on the fly I had a back up supposedly at no compression in 30mins on a DVD5. I haven't watched it but went thru all the chapters and all seemed right. Will try Corpse Bride next.

Nothing special in Corpse Bride. AnyDVD and Recode should work. I used per usual AnyDVD and CloneDVD. Might try shrink alone later.

@binkie7 For Corpse Bride I made do with AnyDVD- Decrypter-Shrink to burn with Nero.Worked fine first time. I guess I'll just buy CloneDVD soon. It's fun trying to figure out what combination to try tho. But concensus seems to be AnyDVD and CloneDVD are the simplest combo. Have there been any that combo wouldn't do?

I have yet to come across one!! Sometimes I like to play and see if the other progs will handle the disc too. Tonite I'm just being lazy.
Here's another reason to buy CloneDVD - if you set AnyDVD to 'remove annoying adverts & trailers' and 'jump to title menu' it throws all that crap in the back. Then in clone just unclick what you don't want to keep the compression down - clone just inserts a few sec of blank space & since it's at the end your never notice! I like my menus and I usually keep the deleted scenes even though I rarely watch them.

Consider this. Windows has jumped into DRM with it's latest programs. Perhaps the latest protection schemes rely on that. I recently processed "The Fog" using Shrink 3.0.5 beta. OS is W2K sp2 and no other MS updates. Is this food for thought? My box pre-dates some of the newer protection schemes.

Always a reason to archive your updates so that you can revert to a usable system. Look at some of the game systems. Rolling back to an earlier version of the firmware is a topic.

Just hit the reauthor tab at the top and you can drag and drop just the movie title over to the left. This will eliminate everything but the movie though. I have had mixed results in removing ONLY certain extras with shrink. Sometimes it ended up pointing things to the wrong place. For example I kept certain extras on one DVD and in the end I had to click on extras to get the movie to play and click on the movie to get the extras to play. That was a long time ago so maybe the last version of shrink handles it better. Typically I just want the movie so I don't bother picking and choosing other stuff. Just drag and drop the movie file in reauthor mode and you are good.

yea i tried that once and i had extras mixed in with the movie not during playback but it seemed like the dvd tree was out of sorts.well i just did zorro with dvdecrypter and AnyDVD,shrink to encode and burn with CloneDVD works fine cept for sputters in the sound in previews but that may be from me compressing the hell out of them for better quality in movie.i have the older version of anydvd

Well, I like to go with free programs but I had to give AnyDVD a shot. I uninstalled DVD43, installed AnyDVD and DVDShrink worked like a charm. I haven't burned the movie and watched it yet but Shrink opened it and backed it up with no problems so I'm not anticipating a problem. In the past, anytime I could back it up with Shrink it turned out fine on the burn. I'm one who likes to figure out ways to do things but at some point you have to ask yourself if it is worth the time spent messing with it verse a one time fee to not have to worry about it. Buying AnyDVD is a serious consideration if it will make for less work, to me anyway.

You really should update your version of AnyDVD. They update it very often to keep up with encryption and bad sector removal.

@jaypugh
I too like to use the free stuff. And the latest version of DVDFab went right thru Legend of Zorro. As I said above, always keep programs up to date.

puterman,

That's what puzzles me. I felt pretty sure that I had the latest version of DVDFab and even DVD43. I tried DVDFab after I removed DVD43 to see if it would work as well. I didn't try AnyDVD until I felt like I was simply wasting too much time. I may give it another shot with AnyDVD off and see about that Beta version of DVDFab. Thanks as usual for your input.

Your very welcome. And just so you know, that beta version is now a final version on his website http://dvdidle.com/free.htm
Both DVDFab and AnyDVD update their programs quite often, so its easy to get behind. I don't know for sure but I have read in some threads here at AD that DVD43 doesn't play well with those programs either. So its best not to run them at the same time.

Your right - DVD43 don't play well w/ AnyDVD, dvd fab decrypter or decrypter. It's best just to uninstall it if using these progs. Even just turning it off can cause a conflict.

Hi all:

I just used DVD Fab with Shrink on Legend of Zorro. I did a reauthor to just get the movie. The disk plays fine on my laptop using Cyberlink PowerDVD. However, when I try to play it on my Sony DVD player at home or my Mintek portable DVD player, it seems to blank out the first part of the movie (just a black screen). If I fast forward a bit, the movie will start playing. When Shrink does the analyze, I can see the movie from the beginning.

Anyone know what's going on?

Thanks.

Mark
