m_w_lee: I am having the EXACT same problem with Zorro.

Here is my method of burning using Verbatim DVD+R's:

AnyDVD 5.8.3.1 -> DVDFab 2.9.7.0 -> reauthor with DVD Shrink -> Nero @ 4x burn

I have NOT had this problem with any of the other newwer movies out now and am not sure what the problem is. I even reset the start of the movie in Shrink but that didn't work either...

Hmm.. That seems like what Shrink was doing before I updated DVDFab. I had used DVDFab, then FixVTS and even VOB Blanker. I tested with or without VOB Blanker running and when looking at it through Shrink preview it looked black through much of the movie. I didn't notice it after the new version of DVDFab. Then again I didn't have to do anything else to it like I did before as it just worked with Shrink. I'll go ahead and burn a copy to see what the outcome is. I would like to know if I'm going to need AnyDVD or not. I watched my copy made at work with AnyDVD and Shrink and it worked perfect (movie only in case you care to know).

Yeah, I did "movie only" too.

My problem is that my Panasonic DVD player can't read the DVD. It tries and says the disk is unreadable. I then eject it, and push the tray back in and it works fine...???

That's what has me confused.

fcobra94,

As I just posted. Mine worked fine with AnyDVD and Shrink. I didn't bother with DVDFab at all and never do unless needed. Plays perfect. I saw what you describe when using other methods.
As far as having to eject from your panasonic. I've had a DVD or two do that (rare though) with my panasonic. It is almost as if it has to read it twice but it doesn't make me do it 2 times every time I try it.

Hmm...

Well, I just tried it in my XBOX just to see what would happen and it didn't play at all.

I'll give AnyDVD and Shrink a try and leave out DVDFab to see if that works. This can get so frustrating :(

Thanks for the help!

Also, when you say you only use DVDFab "when needed" what are the signs that AnyDVD and Shrink aren't working? Does it give you an error message or do you not find out until you actually try to watch the burned movie?

By the way, the exact same thing happened with The Cave.

I also noticed that when doing the reauthor, the size of the audio files are real small, only 3mb. I know that most movies are much, much larger than this. Does anyone know why this is so?

Thanks.

To be honest, I can't remember the last time I've had a burn not play at all EXCEPT when a co-worker did it for me and thought he would show off how fast his burner works. He burned at 12X and they wouldn't play on anything. Typically when I have one that seems finicky (not playing every single time on the panasonic) I have to wonder if it is the burner itself and the burn speed. I typically don't burn anything faster than 4X since seeing problems at fast speeds. Maybe 8X or even faster will be ok but I'm not sitting there waiting on it so I could care less if it takes a few minutes longer.
I guess my point is that I only use DVDFab or Decrypter and other tools if Shrink won't open or backup the DVD. I try things in the following order.
1. Shrink by itself
2. If error then Fab ro decrypter and then Shrink
3. If still error loading to Shrink the VOB the DVDFab files

If shrink will do it alone then why bother with any other steps?

Yes, I agree. I don't use DVDFab or Decrypter unless Shrink will not handle it, like with the new Sony encryption. So Zorro or the Cave will not load in Shrink, invalid file structure I believe.

So then I use DVDFab. It successfully decrypts the files. I can see all the files. I bring them into Shrink. Everything looks fine. I send in thru the reauthor process and back it up. Everything looks good. I watch it burn and it is burning at 1x. I tried twice with Zorro, same thing on both burns.

Its weird that my computer will play it with no problem but the Mintek and Sony will black out the first few minutes of the movie.

Any one else have any ideas?

Thanks.

If you are correct then this may be a case for owning AnyDVD. I was pleasantly surprised to pop in Zorro and see that DVD Shrink had no problems with it from the get go and I've watched it on my home DVD player. I'll burn the DVDFab to see if I get the same results as you just for the heck of it and I'll report back.

What version of DVDFab Decrypter are you using? The problem you are describing sounds like something that used to happen with older versions. The latest is version 2.9.7.0 get it here.

Just a quick note guys. I used DVDFab Platinum and it rip the movie without any problems. Burned the folder with the same software and voala!!! Perfect copy of The Legend of Zorro. I already ripped more than 200 movies with this software without any major problems. I have to say this. This has been the best software that I purchased for making DVD backup's.

Same issue here guys and I used DvdFab, Shrink, and then burned. I also tried DvdFab, CloneDVD and got the same result. Very odd indeed. I just updated to the new Dvd Fab, so we will see for next time. In my case, my dvd player has trouble finding the first chapter, if I switch to chapter 2, it is fine. Also, if I hit the FF button, it also works just fine. Very odd indeed.

I am glad it is not just me. This is the first that I have seen this happen. Someone mentioned that in Shrink, it is possible to FF to a certain part in the film, and start burning there. How do I do that - perhaps we could just skip the dead info.?

Input would be appreciated.

I think people are still discussing it because they are looking at the FREE ways to manage the task as well as the ways that cost money. Most here don't seem to want to purchase $95 of software.

Anyway, I checked my copy of Zorro made with DVDFab (2.9.7) and it plays perfectly on my Panasonic. I ran it through DVDFab and then shrink with NO AnyDVD or DVD43. Works perfect. I've spent all the time I can on this one. I wish you guys luck in burning it. I've found and reported 2 ways that worked for me.

I tried backing up Zorro with AnyDVD and CloneDVD and all of the other meathods mentioned and both the disc image on the hard drive, the dvd files and the burned dvd are all heavily pixilated and unusable. The original dvd plays fine on the computer and sony player. Is there some new protection that AnyDVD is missing. I have tried everything. Any ideas.

Goto this link and dnld DVDFab Decrypter http://dvdidle.com/free.htm

When u use this, make sure AnyDVD or DVD43 and alike or turned off. I found out in another thread that's what I'd done wrong. I'd left AnyDVD enabled. Guess what? DVDFab Decrypter worked like a charm and I then burned with CloneDVD 2. Perfect back-up!

Jaypaugh: As far as my Panasonic DVD-RV31K goes, I think it's not having a problem with Zorro, or any other movie, it's the media I'm using.

It seems that it does the "read twice" thing before finally working ONLY with the new Verbatim 16x DVD+R disks that I JUST started using. It never had problems with the Fuji DVD-R or TheTechGeek.com DVD+R's though, which is kind of confusing...

Well I tried backing up Zorro with just Fab Decrypter and it worked fine. So all along AnyDVD has been the fix all for all problems. Any ideas as to why it is causing problems with this one dvd. I tried some others and it was just Zorro that it had problems with.

I really don't know! I just know that every once in a while, there's a disc with protection from Sony that gives it a fit! AnyDVD is still the best, because it takes out decrypting to the hdd, then read and burn. Of course, saving time isn't the only reason. I don't have a more technical answer. For most, AnyDVD works everytime, no matter the encryption. Congratulations on getting your back-up completed!

Just my opinion here. I have not had the need yet to try AnyDVD running in the background. DVDFab Decrypter has performed flawlessly on anything I have tried it on. Keep in mind that I keep on top of the latest version. I would believe that an up to date program is the key issue here. It seems that DVDFab decrypter and AnyDVD leapfrog on there updates. One may be a day or two ahead of the other on their most recent updates to cover a specific issue with a specific DVD. From reading these threads, these are the most used programs for most people, and both appear very good.

Side Note:
Fengtao, the author of DVDFab Decrypter, suggests from a post at his forum on cdfreaks.com, that when running Fab that DVD43 should be uninstalled, not just disabled, as its drivers are still at work. Keeping AnyDVD turned off should be fine as I have not heard otherwise. DVDFab Decrypter does not need another program running in the background, it does its job by itself.

The legend of Zorro is confusing the hell outta me. I'm using anydvd, and clonedvd2/roxio 7. I'm copying movie only. CloneDVD stops with an error at 14%(still hasn't started writting to the DVD+RW) and says there is a read error, and I was also wondering if anyone knows how to turn the temp write file off. When I try to use Roxio 7 which I have never had a problem with since I got anydvd, it just sits there.. starts at like 123 mins and after a min or 2 jumps to 246 mins, so I walked off. When i came back it was at 4000 somthing mins, still at 0%. I', doing a full format on the DVD+RW, and I'm going to keep trying, but does anyone know what's going on? Or need anymore info?

EDIT: Details on Roxio. I just tried burning it to an image file, and it just sits there at the "transcode and burn process" 0%

sounds like your drive is in PIO mode ,needs to be in DMA mode you can fix that in device manger or use this guide.

http://bbmayo.home.comcast.net/

also you dont need roxio using CloneDVD 2 with AnyDVD ,CloneDVD 2 will encode and burn without roxio ,i did this movie using theses programs with no problem. some drives have a harder time reading some movies and make sure AnyDVD is updated to the lastest verison 5.8.4.1 and use the guide listed above
