Hey everybody I've been a lurker here whenever I have had problems with my DVD backups. Now I joined because I have a problem that searching could not solve. I used to rip DVDs in DVD shrink in about 30 minutes. I have a 3.4 GHz processor, 1 GB of ram, 120 GB harddrive on my laptop. Currently it is only ripping at 300ish KB/s. I read on a few threads that most people are getting into the 1000s. It is taking my computer 4 hours to rip. I have checked the DMA settings in my device manager. I have also checked the AEC compression and its not on and I have checked off the low priority mode or whatever it is. Also, I know my registry doesnt need a cleaning as I just reformatted about two days ago (this was also happening before then though too). Anybody have any other tips i can use or something i forgot that will allow me to get my speeds back?

Make sure your disc is not dirty or scratched...this will not always spit out a CRC error but may just slow the process down. Make sure that then enable I/O overlapping option is ticked in DVD Shrink.

If you are trying to rip various dvd's and they are all giving the same symptoms, it sure sounds like dma is off.
Can you verify with Nero Toolkit / Nero info Tool that your configuration shows all ide devices with dma 'on' ?

Well guys it seems as I am an idiot. I never tried putting in another DVD. I just threw in my old Billy Madison DVD and it ripped away at 2200 KB/s. What could be causing the DVD I have now (The Brothers Grimm) to be taking so long? Could it just be because of the copy protection that is making it slow? I have AnyDVD running in the background and have not gotten any CRC's. Without it I got one though. Oh well I gotta run to class now so I guess I will keep it running while im gone.

Could be the copy protection, or a bad press...make sure you are running the most current version of AnyDVD, a new update was release last week I think.

Yeah I just downloaded the new version. I have the newest versions of all my programs since I just reformatted a few days ago. I will just let it run and see whats up. Hopefully it will back up. I loved this movie.

White99z,
It looks like a problem with copy protection. Based on my observation some of the new releases are taking longer time to rip then it used to. Now I don't know what burner you have but you can search for firmware that has riplock removed. That is if you don't mind experimenting a bit.
