I just got some new 16x dvd+r's from a friend. I have a 4x dvd + and - burner. I used dvd shrink and decrypter to burn some movies. I tried to play the burned dvd in my toshiba dvd player and it would keep freezing and i cant watch the movie, but it will play in my playstation and computer. I have some movies that he burned for me on the same exact brand and speed of disc. Does anyone know what the problem might be? I hope its as easy as updating the firmware for my 4x dvd burner to support the 16x disc. thanks

what brand of 16x DVD+R is this? it seems as if you have "successfully" burned a dvd onto this 16x media, but there are playback problems...this COULD be due in large part to "crappy quality media"...not ALL 16x rated media are "equal" in terms of quality...even though you only have a 4x rated BURNER, that should NOT be the problem if your current firmware right now actually recognizes the disc and you have already burned it onto the 16x disc.

firmware MIGHT be an issue, but hearing just the "issues" you are having now, i am leaning more towards you using cheap/poor quality media that happens to be rated @ 16x :)

changing the brand of media, in your case, COULD resolve ur issues...need to know what kind it is first before i can help u further...

its a tdk DVD+R 16x. the label reads 1-16x 4.7GO. My buddy burned me some dvds before on this same brand of dvd but it was a 8x not 16x. it seems my dvd player has a problem with the different speed or something else.

sorry 2 words: TDK SUCKS~!

definitely change your choice of media...

not only do TDK's own TTG01/TTG02/TTH01/TDK coded media suck arse, but, you COULD quite possibly have gotten another sucky disc right there in your hand...

TDK DVD+R 4.7GB CMC MAG.M01 16x (CMC MAG is back!! crap)

or

TDK DVD+R 4.7GB TDK.....003 16x (as i mentioned b4, TDk's own coded media is AVERAGE at best, but nowhere considered "good" in any sense of the word)

may i suggest some Verbatim MCC004s (16x dvd+r)...that will be a GIANT leap forward in terms of quality...dump the TDK, period.

Is this your drive? I/O Magic External 4X DVD±RW/±R (IDVDRW4DEU1)
The model # can be found in device manager. Clcik on the + next to cd/dvd drive and it will list the make and model. Firmware usually goes in sequenstial order like a10, a12 etc. But you need the right model # to get the right one. Which site are you using to dl your firmware?

Well I can't find your drive on the firmware page to tell you what the latest one is. I/O magic's site your need to have a customer # to see the firmware unless I'm missing soemthing. Geez they don't even have search as on option! They should list the firmware version# and date. Use the latest one. They go up in sequence. Decrypter will tell you what version # you currently have and try the firmware page to see if there is an update. Try that but you may not get a hit. At least you will know what version you have and can tell by that what the next logical version should be hopfully. In decrypter fo to tools>drive>check for firmware update. You will get a popup with your version #.

and now i will stop bothering you.

@Jesse415
It's no bother! That's what aD is here for - ask away!
Once the copy protection is removed - any dvd copy prog will work.
Here's how to do it w/ decrypter:
Rip in iso mode. Go to mode>iso click on read. Decrypter will automatically create a folder for you on your hd OR you can create one. Just pick the one you created under destination.
Once finished go back to mode>iso click on write. Under source you will pick the folder the movie is stored in.
Down the botton you'll see a pic of a drive & dvd - click there and the burning begins.

i think i got the DVDR media problem under control. Now for the very last question.hahaha. If i just want to burn the movie...not the previews, extras, etc. which items do i check. i am using DVD Shrink and decrypter. Does this improve the quality of the video by not putting in the extras. I guess i can add and not the items i want, such as adding the extras and only adding some of the languages, etc. i moight be confusing you, but can i burn just the movie, extras, some of the languages, but not the title menu? this will improve the quality?

LOL...sweet! my buddy alkohol always comes to back me up~! thanks for the kind words bro...

TYs (YUDEN000T03) and Verbs (MCC004) are the ONLY way to go in the 16x rated speeds DVD+R in my opinion...i feel there is a "toss-up" between the new Ritek 16x offering and the Ricohjpn 16x offering as well for 3rd place... :)

that's just MY opinion, but i will rank TDK dead last, again , regardless of speed~ LOL

docTY~

@alkohol

i'm sure they (TY soldiers) are around somewhere, maybe in other forums spreading "the gospel" LOL

as of late, i've shown about 1/2 dozen newbies that PM me about Taiyo Yuden and got some new "recruits" :)

they are as happy as can be now with GREAT quality media~
