Hey whats up guys? Iam just wondering why Using the AnyDVD and DVD Shrink Combo usually gives me flawless burns compared to the even more simple ANYDVD CLoneDVD2 combo? Iam running a Compaq 2.4 GHZ 1 GB RAM and an Optorite DVD Burner.

I burned movies like Land of the Dead, Red Eye, The Thing Etc perfectly with DVDSHRINK but CLONEDVD2 gave me disk's with errors, the errors are that the Movie Burns successfully but then when i play it on the DVD player around the middle or Last chapters of the movie it starts freazing up and skipping.

The reason this bothers me is because I read on here how awesome CLONEDVD is and that DVDSHRINK might not work with newer DVD's soon. I have the latest update of both ANYDVD and CloneDVD but i still get those bad burns. I dont want to give up on CLoneDVD because i hear such good things on here, but can anyone lend a helping hand?

I'm not sure I'm going to clear up anything for you but here goes.
Do you multi-task? Don't. Do you have a large # of processess running on your pc. Stop them, using your Task Manager. AnyDVD & CloneDVD are wonderful partners but here's the thing, burning a DVD using any software takes up so much of your pc's resources and any interruption can cause a glitch in the end product, i.e. your back-up DVD. Also Shrink has a box that allows it to run in low priority so you can multi-task but it cannot burn you a DVD. It can only re-encode a movie, shrinking it into a smaller space to fit on a single layered DVD without losing too much quality. Multi-tasking during the reading and re-encoding, in DVD Shrink, can slow down the process considerably and open the door to error possibilities.

Others will give you there take on it, but I doubt it will be much different from my version.

Well when i run CLONEDVD2 or anyother DVD related Burning/COding Software i usually leave the Comp alone. Again DVDSHRINK Has not given me a bad copy yet, but DVD2 has given me nothing but the opposite. Iam using Verbatim DVD's and I dont mess around with my comp while ecoding and stuff.

DVDSHRINK points to Nero to burn, so iam guessing DVD2 burns using something else. To sum it up I am just wondering why i get perfect copies with DVDSHRINK and Get the opposite with CloneDVD?

Well i guess what i really want to know is how and what steps (One by one) do you guys take to get a perfect copy of a newer movie using AnyDVD and CloneDVD2 combo?

Any help would be appreciated.

OK, one thing I failed to mention is that DVD Shrink is probably set to booktype as DVD-ROM (format from the movie studios) rather than DVD+R or DVD-R (format(s) for consumers) and I believe CloneDVD will simply burn whatever format u r using. This is is the most plausible reason for the skipping or freezing u get. I'm assuming u use -R which doesn't work well on the newer standalone DVD players unless it's specifically for that format or is a multi-format player. This explains why Shrink gives you your "flawless copy". You will need to see if you can booktype your burner. Then whatever software u use, it will be booktyped as DVD-ROM. Here's a link for Booktyping/Bitsetting. http://www.k-probe.com/bitsetting-booktype-faq.php

DVD-R doesn't work well with newer stand alone players? Hmmmmm.....Issue of booksetting aside, the DVD-R has always had wider compatability than +R, and I have seen nothing about "newer players to dispute that. If anything, the "newer players" from China seem to play any of the formats whether or not they are advertised as being compatible.

Yeah I have an old DVD player in the living room that struggles to play DVD -R's and i got this cheap 20 dollar DVD in my room that Runs them just fine.

Ill take a look into those booktyped sugestions.

Choice of Media also affects playability for older players. They may prefer one brand or dye type over another, even with same format. Likewise for recording speed, keep at 4X for greater compatibility.

Perhaps you have "customized" your file burning size in Shrink to not burn too close to the edge and have not done so in DVDClone 2?

It is only possible to booktype dvd+r not dvd-r media to dvd-rom.

I must disagree with comments regarding DVD-R. DVD-R doesn't work well on the newer players. ONLY if those players are designed to play them or they're multi-formatted players will it work properly and consistently! Having personally tested several brands of players and brands of DVD-R media, I know this to be true. -R is regarded as the format more compatible with older players, according to most information I've read on the subject.

StanH1000 does mention the relationship of die and media manfacturer combatibility. This has also proven to be true in many cases.

I would offer something more concrete, but I can only suggest you google the subject for more info.

@ Mort81

Thanks for the correction. You were the one who helped me with Booktyping/Bitsetting over a year ago!

One thing no one has said anything aboutis, Shop4Tech sounds like the best in the west for buying online but you might have bad discs. I ended up with 100 Longtens, and got rid of them. I'd use Nero or what ever burning software is to check who really made the discs.

You can also use this handy little proggy to identify the manufacturer.
