Right, as I write this I'm getting more and more bogged down with this whole DVD Shrink business. First of all I have to say that I've been using DVD shrink along with DVD decrypter and Nero for burning for a couple of months with no problems, I have no idea how they work together - I never open DVD decrypter I just go into DVD Shrink and analyze, then backup then burn with Nero. Recently I got some CRC errors, got a workaround from one of your experts (just copy the video TS folder contents to the hard drive manually) this worked, but now with a new backup I'm trying to do of 'Family Guy' the CRC error is back and the workaround mentioned above doesn't work. I get a copy error message. Yes, I cleaned the disk, it is spotless and can be copied by another pc - So, can I deduce from this that something is wrong with my actual burner(Philips DVD+RW DVD8601)?
Furthermore I have noticed a huge difference in speed, a month ago I could decrypt and burn a DVD in under 20 mins total, now it takes absolutely ages on average 50 minutes do decrypt and then backup and the same again for burning (also I've noticed more and more fails towards the end of the burning process). I've recently changed the DVDs I'm using, could this be the problem? The DVDs I'm using are Mr.DVD+R x8. Or could it be the actual hardware that is defective from overuse? Does performance decline as usage increases? Why is DVD shrink so slow now? Do shit quality DVDs cause write errors? I have other questions, but think I've probably already overstayed my welcome on the question front for today. Thanks in advance for any help. Fake_One.

I can't make any stabs at your CRC problems, though if you can copy it in another computer like you said, maybe it's just time to do it there and move on.
I highly doubt that your drive has become overused or defective. And yes, cheap DVDs cause write errors. Do shitty pencils break? It sounds like you're using cheap, coaster media (Mr.DVD doesn't really sound all that high quality anyways). That could be the source of both your speed and write error issues. Buy some nice media like Taiyo Yuden (I shop at www.supermediastore.com, I know the discs are real Taiyo's and their prices are good) and burn at 4x. Your errors, if in fact due to bad media, should disappear.

Two simple answers might solve your problems?

1.. defrag your hard drive.

2.. NEVER use crappo media.........it's the road of the ever decreasing circle.

Sort those two out; and if the problems persist, more details are needed.

No, not yet.

Could be the media, but your drive could have slipped into PIO mode. Make sure that your drive(s) have DMA enabled via this guide: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/260038

Never hear of the discs you are using but as stated by dvdsndict and Gringle, use quality media...Verbatim, Taiyo Yuden or Sony, Fuji, Maxell(made in Japan). You can check the manufacturer of those discs with this program: http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/dvd_tools/dvd_id...
If the manufacturer comes back as CMC Magnetics or Moser Bauer make windchimes out them or anything but backing up DVD's.

Check and make sure your drive has not reverted to PIO mode, that it is in UltraDMA this will slow you down. Here is a guide

http://home.comcast.net/~bbmayo/checking%20DMA.pdf

Also am not sure what brand of disk this is, have never heard of it. Try using retail brands of Sony, Verbatim, Maxell or Fuji.

Make sure the firmware is up to date on the burner, this will ensure it will recognize newer media and write speeds. You can check through Nero Info Tool if you have it, or DVD Decrypter also has the option.
