I don't know why, but lately it is taking longer and longer to back up a movie using shrink.
Before the analyzing and encoding phases ran anywhere from 15 - 30 minutes. Now the analyzing phase runs up to an hour and the encoding over an hour in many cases.
Has anyone experienced this and if so what was the cause and how did you fix it?

Make sure you are not using the quality enhancements...Deep Analysis and AEC controls can add to the backup time significantly.

I just deleted it and am going to re-install the 3.2 and see if it helps, but thanks for the heads-up. I will check that as well from now on.

No, I open it and the first Analyzation process that normally takes less than 1 - 1.5 minutes is taking almost 4 minutes.
It doesn't help that this is one of my old copies of October Sky, but it's working very slowly even with DVDs in practically new condition.
Any thoughts?

Also, if I rip a movie with Decryptor it will shrink it much faster once I've got the file on the hard drive.
What does that tell you?

djlen ,
Your last statement tells you your HD is faster than the DVD-Rom. Most people rip to HD and then do the process although your process is OK. Go into to Device Manager and make sure the IDE Channels are in DMA Mode-2

make sure that you have dma enabled and also make sure that you remove all of the old shrink temp files from your hd and also do a disk clean up and defrag your hd at least once a week

OK, I just ripped the movie with decryptor and it's the pre-analyzation took less than 20 secs. from the hard drive.
It's encoding and will take less than 7 mins. to encode which is much faster......off the hard drive.
I don't understan why it's so slow when I start with shrink. I've always ripped with shrink from the get go and it's been very fast.
I went into my device manager and change the secondary IDE Channel from PIO ONLY to DMA if available but it still says in 'current transfer mode: PIO MODE. It doesn't change.
What's up with that?

Well that did it. I had forgotten how to uninstall the drivers. This happened a while back. Thank you Alkohol.
I appreciate the help.

It is normal to be faster when Shrink reads from HDD instead of any DVD-Rom. Plus, when it reads from HDD, the files are not encypted, you already decrypted them with DVDD. When reading from a DVD drive, first Shrink has to decrypt the files, so it will be slower. Maybe in the past was faster, but now Shrink is not updated anymore, so it is harder to handle the newer encryptions.
