After I ripped Robots, my dvd shrink has been running slow. What takes 30-40 mins to encode takes 3-4 hours. I tried removing dvd shrink and reloading it and the program still runs VERY slow. I know I don't have a computer virus because all my other computer applications run just fine. Please help, I don't understand what's going on.
Double check the adaptive error compensation enhancements in the backup options. You may have them ticked now,and before you didn't. Also, the more compression you have on a backkup, the longer it takes to backup. If you have Max smoothness or Max sharp set on that AEC box, then that'll really slow you down.
Also could be your direct transfer mode in pio mode. If you have Nero, post a log. Or,go into device manager/ IDE ATA/Atapi controllers: Right click primary/properties/advanced setting tab and make sure yours says dma/UDMA/or if available. Do the same to the other controllers of both primary and secondary. Make sure they don't say Pio mode.
If any of those controllers are in pio mode, that'll definitely slow you down. Just click the driver tab of that controller/uninstall/and reboot. Do the same to the other controllers that may be in pio mode, but 1 channel/reboot at a time. Windows xp should reinstall them properly back to the correct mode.
I have read the other postings and tried what they have suggested and it didn't work, but the strange thing is that my laptop has been doing the same thing since the Robot dvd. I will try your first suggestion (checking Nero log), but going into the the computer and checking the DMA didn't work. The primary was set fine, then the secondary was PIO, so I switched it and tested it out (still slow) then I deleted that device. DVD Shrink is still running slow. And if anyone responds, I don't know a lot about computers. Could you explain in simple terms. Thanks. Any other suggestion?
adwinsf,
The reason your OS went to PIO Mode is because of the conflicts the computer was having usually in the registry. You need to Google for a free Registry Cleaner and then clean the registry. If you are not sure on how to clean it or which files to use then have a friend do it for you
