Like alot of people I am getting ready to buy anydvd.
I am just not sure how to make my backups, I like shrink to edit the movie, but what do you actually do?
I have read you have to rip the movie to your hard drive first and then use shrink, and then I read you can just use shrink, but now it seems anydvd also has a ripper built in now, so what do I do with that?
Thanks!!!!!

You can just use AnyDVD in the background & it will automatically crack your disc in real-time. Open & reauthor your disc with Shrink then your good to go.

Yes, AnyDVD is worth every penny. I must tell you though, Shrink is having problems with some newer movies, even with AnyDVD. Right now the best combination (to me), is AnyDVD and CloneDVD. I haven't found a movie yet, that these two can't handle.
Good luck!

Yes imo AnyDVD is worth the money but there are free prog (a few more steps) that will handle anything out there also. Even though I have AnyDVD (which has been updated several times to help shrink) and CloneDVD I still use the other free progs too.

From slysoft on the new ripper part:
Quote: New: Added "AnyDVD Ripper". This little tool repairs defective DVDs
while copying them to your harddisk. It can be started from the menu of
the AnyDVD fox icon. It can be started as a stand alone application from
the start menu as well, so it can be used even if AnyDVD is not registered
and the trial period has expired.
It is identical to FixVTS (http://www.videohelp.com/~FixVTS/) but instead
of fixing problems "in place" it copies the files to your harddisk directly
from the source DVD. It fixes the problems while the files are copied.
Some DVDs which have severe mastering defects e.g.,
"Menace II Society" R1 (US) can now be copied with all DVD copy tools
(elby CloneDVD, DVDShrink, etc.) Many thanks to the author of FixVTS!
- Fix: Hang after update check with some system configurations
- Some minor fixes and improvements
- Updated languages

OK, I didn't intentionally break the rules, the questions (I thought) were similar but different. My apologies and it won't happen again.
So I will just use this one thread,
can someone tell me how to use recode to edit the dvd's after using AnyDVD?
Shrink was easy but if Nero does it all then I can just use AnyDVD and recode - is that a good combo?
does AnyDVD do all movies?
what does the AnyDVD ripper do in the new version?

thepunish,
I Recode you use Remake a Movie> then Import Title ( which is the movie.) At the bottom you can edit out the subtitles and audio if you want to then hit Next and you can follow the guide in Nero from there.
Recode and AnyDVD are very good for most people and so far AnyDVD has done all of the movies.
The new ripper function just decrypts the DVD to HD and corrects the DVD structural problems if there are any.

Thanks, so is it good practice to rip to hd first, then do the edit with recode? My buddy has the AnyDVD like 4.8 or the release just before the ripper and he is waiting on slysoft to respond as his won't upgrade but it is licensed legally, what do you do if you have the older version without the ripper in it? Just copy the movie or do you have to open the dvd with recode or shrink?

thepunish,
He can go to SlySoft's website and D/L AnyDVD from there.
You can do the process w/o going to HD first but I always like to put the files on HD and then process

thx, so the ripper does just that, copies to the hard drive, so what did you have to do in the other version? My buddy just did download it - not sure why he didn't do it sooner.
I am just curious as to what people did with the older version so I can understand the entire process, if the Ripper feature wasn't available?

Everyone used either AnyDVD along w/ Shrink or they used DVDFAB Decrypter or DVDDecrypter to rip it to HD.

cool, thx, so AnyDVD in the background, then shrink to just open the dvd from the drive just as it was a regular disk, rip to hd and then edit?
So shrink pulls the encryption to - no conflict there? Can you set shrink to NOT pull encryption if you use the new AnyDVD and still use shrink to edit?

In my opinion, the only thing easier than using AnyDVD with DVDShrink, is using Nero's recode because then it's only opening one program, instead of a ripping prog AND burning prog.
Maybe thats because I didn't buy their CloneDVD but that's just me.
