If you aren't doing anything while you are burning and it's still taking up that much memory it could be a virus, nothing certain though.

Glue...maybe a virus is causing the problem? I wanted to ask you if I should post a HiJack This log somewhere else on Afterdawn? ( Man, am I getting desperate!) I use Trendo Micro, and it seems pretty good, and weekly scans have not revealed any viruses, but.... Like I said, I have done all of the suggestions so far with no luck, but hopefully people won't give up on this!! Thanks.

@lifeguy
Just a suggestion.
Instead of using shrink to autoburn with Nero, can you try to have shrink create a VIDEO_TS folder on your hard drive then manually burn the files to disk using Nero and see what happens?
Create a folder on your desktop and give it the name of your movie
ie... flightplan_movie
When backing up in DVDshrink, choose to save the target as a "hard drisk folder" from the dropdown menu, for a storage location, browse to inside the folder you created on you desktop and click ok. Shrink should create a VIDEO_TS folder inside the movie folder you created containing the video files which will be manually burned to disk.
Manually start Nero burning rom from the smart start window and follow these guides for burning the files to disk.
Manually burning with nero

@johnl; I can't thank you enough for your continued contributions to this thread, and your (and the others)willingness to help. Hopefully this thread will help others with similar problems.
I followed your instructions and tried to manually burn a disc with Nero, after creating a folder with Shrink.....unfortunately I got another error. I'll post the log below, if anyone has any ideas or suggestions, please post. I can't believe I'm having this much difficulty after burning hundreds of dvd's with this same machine in the past.
Thanks, Chris

It seems as if this is the exact same error EVERY TIME. I wonder what could be the cause of this?

Is that the latest version of Nero? If so, roll back to the previous one & give it a whirl.

@Pulsar: Thanks for your response, and yes, I am using Nero 7 Ultra. Any idea where I can get the previous version? Maybe that will help.
I need to try new discs too, but would be a first that this drive didn't like a particular media.
Thanks!

Oh well, I guess people have given up on this particular thread. Still can't burn dvd's for whatever reason.
Anyway, thanks to those that contributed to this thread, and tried to help. If anyone finds a possible solution, it would be much appreciated!

Try this since your drive doesn't support booktyping - make sure in Nero 'automatic' or DVD-ROM is not checked. From your logs Nero is trying to booktype a +r on a burner that doesn't support this. Make sure this setting is not enabled in shrink also.
From what I could find on your drive - the max speed is 4x - so you might want to slow it down a bit since your burning at max speed.

Thanks for the responses Binkie and johnl. I don't yet want to give up on Nero, as I have used this program for a couple of years without problems copying dvd's. That is why I am so dumbfounded by my new problems in copying. If all else fails though, johnl I will try your suggestion of course.
Binkie, I checked my settings in Nero, and the booktype setting is set to "automatic". There are three other options: dvd-rom, physical disc type, and current recorder settings. Which would you recommend I try since my drive doesnt like booktyping?
Thanks!

@lifeguy,
if you click on my name, on my homepage i have a blog showing how to booktype using various programs, nero included. Just play around with the settings and use a DVD+RW for this test as you can use it over and over again without making coasters.
You might have a problem with system aspi also. For some reason, im seeing a lot of these with nero 7. Just check it with this program and see what it reports back. http://www.adaptec.com/worldwide/support/driverdetail.jsp?sess=no... As stated by others, you have the minimum amount of ram for dvd ripping, and most of it is being used up. Let me see if i can find a free program that frees up memeory for you. You could also buy another memory stick and that would help too, but it would cost something.
http://www.download.com/Memory-Optimizer/3000-2086_4-10145323.htm... That one has a 30 day free trial period, so you could use it and see if memory is the major problem.
If you have the patience, we do too. Hang in there, you will get it.
Die CMC Mag!!!

OK guys, I just found something that may be the cause of all the problems. I just ran the Nero InfoTool, and when it was checking the system, a window popped up. It says:
16 bit MS-DOS Subsystem
C:\WINDOWS\system32\cmd.exe
C:\PROGRA~1\Symantec\S32EVNT1.DLL. An installable Virtual Device Driver failed Dll initialization. Choose 'Close" to terminate this application.
DOES anyone know what the heck all this means? Symantec? I don't even use Norton anymore on this machine, and havent for more than a year (but the burn problems are recent)
Thanks!

I posted errors that showed up on my machine and am hopeful someone can help me interpret them. Maybe they have something to do with all of my new problems doing such a simple task...trying to copy a dvd.

All the advice you've gotten so far is sound. I don't think I could add anything but nothing seems to work. One small suggestion: Did you try system restore to restore your pc back to the last date you burned a successful DVD? If not try it, can't hurt and easy. If no help just roll back to today. Don't give up, once you get it right it's so nice.

Can't really help on your error message but it sounds like you have a conflict(s) since you no longer have Norton(symantec). I would run a registry cleaner to fix any of these problems. If you don't have one you can try registry mechanic - here's a link:
http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=3306
For the aspi in info tools do you at least see Nero using the system aspi?
Have your tried any of the media recommended & removing the booktype option in Nero?

I think that error has to do with nortons auto update. To stop it look for these files.
C:\Program Files\Symantec
In the right pane, select and delete the following files:
* S32evnt1.dll
* Symevent.sys
* Symevnt.386
* Symevnt1.dll
Navigate to the \Windows\System folder.
Select and delete the following files
* S32evnt1.dll
* Symevnt.386
* Symevnt1.dll
You may have only the reg value left if those files got removed when you removed norton. Look for this in the regestry.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\VxD\SYMEVNT
And delete it.
I don't think that has anything to do with the burn problem though.
