I am trying to backup my copy of Hide and Seek; I tried to do it with Shrink only, got 43% done, and then I kept getting the message - DVD shrink encountered an error and cannot continue - failed to read File:\", data error (cyclic redundancy check). Then I tried to use DVD Fab Decrypter - and when I went to Shrink to encode it, I got the message - failed to read file C/DVD Work Hide and Seek DVD\Video_TS_08_1.vob; invalid access to memory; a second time I tried i got = programming error - exception occurred. I also tried to move the files into Nero Burning Rom, but it said the file was too large, and I don't know how to make it smaller. Does that error from TS-08_1.vob mean there is a corrupted file and will not work at all anyways - or what? Your help is appreciated.

Rip the movie using DVD Fab Decrypter, then run Video_TS file through VOB Blanker, after running through VOB Blanker open the newly created files using DVD Shrink. This method has worked every time for me. Plus, all these programs are free.

A CRC error is typically caused by a dirty, smudged, or scratched disk, you could also have a bad press. The other possibility is copy protection that shrink can't handle which I believe to be the case here.

Make sure the disk is clean, for bad press, you'll need to get another disk and try it.

If it's copy protection, then what alpsig suggested is the way to go if you want to keep it free. DVDShrink alone wont be able to backup your movie, so this is what you do:

Rip the movie files to your HDD using the latest version of DVDFab Decrypter.

Get dvdfab Decrypter here:
http://www.dvdidle.com/free.htm

Since shrink gives you a problem when trying to open the files created by DVDFab, you'll need to process the files thru VobBlanker first then open the files created by VobBlanker with shrink using the open files tab (NOTE:DVDFab will create a new set of video files corrected of structural problems, you'll need to store these files on your HDD), at this point you should be able to use shrink as you normally would (shrink will look for a VIDEO_TS folder to open, so store the files created by vobblanker in a new folder named VIDEO_TS).

Get VobBlanker here:

Thank you Johnl123. I did check the disc and cleaned it prior to encoding it. I tried to use vobblanker, but when I tried following the guide, I got lost. I need simple step by step instructions which I am sure are out there somewhere. I am going to list what happened when I tried to burn through Nero after encoding it on Shrink.

Perhaps you can understand this and see what problem occurred. I did try to encode the movie Candy - went through Shrink - took about 48 minutes and then the above came up. I tried to burn the file with Nero Burning Rom, but then my files were too large, although I had encoded just the main movie with a good amount of shrinkage. Your help and guidance is appreciated and welcomed. The other thing that I can't figure out are what parts are the extras in the movies and how to identify them? Thank you in advance.

Thanks for the advice. Does anyone know of a "very" simple step by step vobblanker guide for a rookie like me to follow? I mean a very SIMPLE guide!

This would be as simple as it gets....

Supply VobBlanker with a source(the VIDEO_TS folder created by DVDFab Decrypter) and a target (a new renamed folder) for use opening in DVD Shrink...hit process and wait. Simple as that.
